Model Overview

Both XKs and XKRs come in a coupe or convertible.Constructed mostly of aluminum, the 2010 Jaguar XK and XKR both feature good road feel and exceptional handling. The all-new 5.0L V8 engine is refined and powerful, and is mated to a 6-speed sequential transmission operated by the JaguarDrive rotary gear selector, which rises out of the console upon engine start-up, and features steering wheel paddle shifters. Underneath, the eCATS system actively adjusts the suspension to keep the ride smooth yet sporty. Traction control and dynamic stability control are standard, as is an active exhaust system, and the roomy interior is even stocked with a standard DVD-based navigation system. The 4-model lineup includes the normally-aspirated V8 XK coupe and convertible and their rakish alter egos, the supercharged XKRs. Jaguar aimed for a thoroughbred sports car with the XK and XKRs and succeeded. The chassis has many aluminum components helping the convertibles remain stiff enough to handle as respectable sports cars. The transmission, with three settings, can be made to ride luxury smooth or razor sharp depending on the driver's mood.Luxury is Jaguar's signature, and both XK and XKR come very well-appointed. On the XK, plenty of leather, aluminum and a number of veneer trim choices make for a classy interior. A heated wheel is now standard, as are 16-way heated and cooled power seats, keyless entry with remote start, leather-covered dash, bi-Xenon automatically leveling headlights, DVD-based navigation with touchscreen climate controls and stereo controls, Bowers & Wilkins 525-watt premium surround sound stereo and LED tail lamps. An available Advanced Technology Package adds adaptive cruise control and active front lighting. 19-inch wheels are standard on both the XK and XKR, with 20-inch wheels optional. The XKR gets all the same features as the XK, but adds the supercharged 510-hp engine, larger brakes, special wheels, special exterior and interior styling, adaptive cruise control and several unique interior color/veneer combinations. The convertible soft top operates via a single button and neatly stows under an aluminum tonneau cover. It also features a heated glass rear window. When the top is down the occupants are protected in the event of a rollover by roll bars that pop up behind the seats. All models come with a 4-year/50,000 mile basic warranty and a 6-year/ unlimited mile corrosion warranty.

Jaguar Heritage Driving Experience throws you the keys to the museum

Thu, 16 Oct 2014

As automotive journalists, we get to drive a lot of really cool, high-performance vehicles. It really is the single best thing about this job. However, our access to vehicles is generally limited to the newest offerings on the market. That means, much like the general public, we don't really get access to vintage iron.
Jaguar is trying to rectify that issue for journalist and enthusiast alike, with a new program called the Heritage Driving Experience. It allows British enthusiasts to pop into the brand's Warwickshire testing site, drop anywhere from 100 to 300 pounds ($160 to $480) and go for a spin in some of the brand's most legendary offerings. That includes the more typical classics, like the Mark 2 saloon and the E-Type sports car, but you can also pay for access to stunners like the XK150, XKSS and the race-spec D-Type. In addition to the classics, most of the tests include time in their modern successors. So an hour with the Mark II can be split with time in an XFR-S, while the E-Type is complemented by its spiritual successor, the F-Type.
Most of the events are limited to 30 or 60-minute sessions, although the brand does offer a half-day and full-day event. The former, the Jaguar Le Mans Experience, includes time in the C-Type, D-Type, XKSS and F-Type R. The full-day Grace and Pace Pack, meanwhile, gives you access to nine vehicles, covering a huge gamut. That means time in the C-, D- and E-Type, XK150, Mark II, XKR-S GT and F-Type R, among others. Not surprisingly, prices aren't listed for the half- and full-day pack. Much like Jag's finest cars, if you have to ask, you probably can't afford them.

Jaguar wants to make real-life driving just like a video game

Thu, 10 Jul 2014

Jaguar Land Rover is on a bit of a tech bent today. It's announced its new family of four-cylinder engines and a "self-learning" vehicle Range Rover prototype, and now it's announced what it calls the Jaguar Virtual Windscreen.
The technology is similar to other head-up displays and telematics recorders already on the market, the Jaguar Virtual Windscreen concept takes things to the next level to turn real-life driving into a video game-like experience. It's being demonstrated with data like lap times, grid positions, virtual racing line and brake guidance... even "ghost" cars from previous laps and virtual cones for simulated autocrossing. Just like you'd find in the latest version of Forza or Gran Turismo, but you know... in an actual car - in this case a Jaguar F-Type. It's similar to the Transparent Bonnet system Land Rover revealed a couple of months ago, but instead of rock-crawling, it's for the race track.
The system also incorporates gesture controls and could be configured to display instrument data, a video feed from a rear-view camera to replace the mirror. Check out the details and the video below for a closer look at what JLR has got in store for the near future.

2014 Jaguar XKR-S GT takes fiercest feline further [UPDATE]

Tue, 26 Mar 2013

If there were any car to overshadow the 542-horsepower Jaguar XJR that's coming to the New York Auto Show, this is it. Meet the Jaguar XKR-S GT - a street-legal, higher-performance version of the already hardcore XKR-S that will be headed to North America in very limited quantities. Only 30 will be offered on our continent, with 25 earmarked for the United States and the remaining five going to Canada. The cost of entry? $174,000 when it goes on sale this August.
What that gets you is a coupe that is, without any doubt, ready to attack any racetrack it might encounter. The XKR-S' supercharged 5.0-liter V8 has not been upgraded in terms of power - not that 550 horsepower and 502 pound-feet of torque is anything to sneeze at - but instead, Jaguar focused on tuning the bits of the car that help effectively put all that grunt to the ground. There's a new hood with rows of louvers to aid in engine cooling, and elsewhere on the car's body, you'll find carbon fiber on the redesigned front air splitter, dive planes, extended wheel arch spats, as well as a new rear diffuser, an aluminum front under tray and an absolutely massive wing out back to keep downforce to a maximum.
Underneath that hot body are retuned and height-adjustable adaptive dampers; spring rates have been increased by 68 percent in front and 25 percent at the rear versus a standard XKR-S. Most of the front and rear suspension geometry has been upgraded, larger carbon ceramic brakes have been fitted at all four corners, and wider 20-inch forged alloy wheels are found here, wrapped in Pirelli Corsa tires - 255/35-series rubber in front and 305/30-series stuff out back. There's also a revised active exhaust system, which should only improve the already thunderous roar coming out the back of the Jag coupe, and a faster steering rack has been added for improved agility.
