Offered for sale is an entirely solid, very original, numbers matching 1964 Jaguar 3.8L Series I E-Type Fixed Head Coupe (FHC) finished in rare, factory correct Black over Biscuit. Garaged and well loved from new and having never been restored, this three owner car is the proverbial “survivor”, used as a weekend driver throughout the nearly 50 years since Max Hoffman imported the car. Based on this history and the condition of the car’s telltale points, it’s believed that the 57k miles registering on the odometer are entirely original.

According to the most recent owner, the original owner kept the car immaculate until the late 1970s, at which point it was purchased by a professional photographer and architectural preservationist from the historic town of New Castle, Delaware. His tenure of ownership would continue for the ensuing +/-25 years, before finding the third local buyer in 2002, a buyer whom he found through the local Jaguar Owner's club and one that he could be sure would provide the E-Type the same kind of care and preservation to which it had grown accustomed.

As offered today, the car is not without its minor aesthetic blemishes, but as the pictures exhibit, it is still abundantly presentable. The deep black finish, while showing its age, polishes up nicely, the glass is in excellent condition and the brightwork shows only minimal wear, with no dings or flaking chrome. The original chrome knock-off wheels are wrapped in Michelin radial tires with plenty of remaining tread. The car’s body displays absolutely no evidence of rust or bondo and is extremely straight, with excellent panel fits and gaps all around. The wonderfully offsetting Biscuit interior is equally clean, showing only minimal wear to the Connelly leather, interior panels, carpets and headliner. The car also retains its period Blaupunkt radio, full wire wheel spare and changing tools.

Always maintained and consistently taken out to stretch its legs, the car is in fantastic shape mechanically, its original 3.8L inline six with triple SU carburetors starting right up without any smoke or hesitation. Pulling strongly and smoothly through each of the original Moss gearbox’s gears, it propels the car down the highway with grin-inducing force. The car drives and brakes straight, handles crisply and thoroughly provides the early E-Type’s trademark visceral feel. The car’s undercarriage is solid and free of corrosion and the engine bay is entirely sanitary, further testament to the amount of miles the car has traveled.

This is an excellent opportunity at acquiring an extremely desirable, solid and mechanically strong example, finished in it’s rare, factory correct color. Whether continuing its tenure as a wonderfully original weekend driver or as the ideal platform for an uncomplicated concours quality restoration, this 1964 E-Type FHC is sure to provide strong investment upside while bringing its next owner the same joy imparted upon its previous caretakers. Please bid accordingly.

We want this car to go to great home and would be happy to further discuss it and answer any questions, so please feel free to email us or call us at 805-202-4557. You can also visit us online at GoodmanReed.

We’ve always had an appreciation for classic European cars and over the years have created an eclectic personal collection. We only buy cars that we’d personally be interested in owning and generally only sell them to make room for other acquisitions. That time has come for this Jaguar (if the price is right, of course – this isn’t a fire sale). We try to give accurate descriptions of the cars we’re selling, but we’re enthusiasts, not experts, and we encourage and are happy to help facilitate personal or professional inspections. But please do so before bidding, as the alternative harms our ability to make sales to other interested parties who have done their proper due diligence before bidding.

For U.S. buyers a 10% non-refundable deposit is required within 3 days of the auction’s end, the balance to be paid within 7 days of the auction’s end. Foreign buyers must pay in full within 7 business days of the auction’s end. Buyer is responsible for shipping, however we’d be more that happy to help with recommendations and arrangements. The car is listed locally and we reserve the right to end the auction at any time should it sell prior to auction’s end. Thanks for your interest.

Jaguar considering lightweight F-Type Club Sport?

Wed, 02 Apr 2014

In the market for a Jaguar F-Type? Then let us commend you, first of all, on your good taste. But you've got a difficult decision ahead of you: Do you go for the power of the V8 or the lighter weight of the V6? It's a tough call, even if the ~$30k range in price from the entry model to the flagship doesn't phase you.
Well, to make the decision easier (or potentially more difficult), Jaguar is said to be looking into yet another tempting option: that of a lightweight Club Sport model. Tipped to be based on the coupe (and not the heavier roadster), the F-Type Club Sport would allegedly shed a good 400 pounds or so off the curb weight, not so much through the removal of one component or another but through a "holistic" approach that would call on all aspects of the car to play their part in ditching excess weight. That could mean everything from carbon-fiber body panels to a stripped-out interior denuded of sound-deadening materials and creature comforts, says Auto Express.
In developing the rumored F-Type Club Sport, Jaguar is apparently facing a similar dilemma to what buyers are pondering: will it base the track-focused model on the top-of-the-line F-Type R, with its 5.0-liter supercharged V8 driving 542 horsepower to the rear set of lighweight alloys but weighing down the schnoz? Or should it try to get more power out of the lighter 3.0-liter supercharged V6, which currently nets 340 hp in base form and 380 in S spec? Let Jag know what you'd do by leaving your thoughts in Comments.

2016 Jaguar XF mule spied in Germany

Wed, 30 Oct 2013

From our best guess, the Jaguar test mule shown in these spy shots could very well be our first glimpse at the next-generation Jaguar XF, due out around the 2016 model year. The current XF has been around for five years already (launched in 2008), and this mule is likely testing powertrain or chassis components for a new version of the midsize Jaguar sedan.
With what seems to be a stretched wheelbase and wider track, this is almost certainly not a mule for the 3 Series-fighting Jaguar XS. That being said, though, there is also the outside chance that this could be a mule for other future Jaguar Land Rover products including a production version of the Jaguar C-X17 crossover or the Jaguar-based Range Rover Grand Evoque. Only time will tell what these images truly foretell, but if nothing else, it proves that Jaguar is definitely staying busy these days.

Jaguar demanding customer data from reluctant dealers

Tue, 25 Feb 2014

Nearly every major business is collecting consumer data these days, and keeping that data secure has come to the forefront of many customer's minds. Jaguar Land Rover North America's decision to begin requesting more customer info from its dealer network appears unfortunately timed, however. If it had come a few years ago, it might have been ignored, but in today's climate of heightened awareness, a few dealers are pushing back. To put the showrooms in an even tougher position, JLR NA is threatening to deny quarterly incentives if they do not turn over the customer data, according to Automotive News.
JLR NA instated the nationwide plan, which it calls Single View CRM, on February 7, but according to Stuart Schorr, Jaguar Land Rover North America Vice President of Communications, the automaker has been negotiating with its dealers to institute the new program for over a year. Schorr tells Autoblog that no financial information is being shared, noting that such data is limited to customer details, including things like what vehicles they own and whether they have any pending service. The initiative is meant to "improve customers' and owners' engagement with the brand," he said. Also, the company is not accessing dealer data itself; instead showrooms are asked to enter the info into JLR's database.
