Infiniti Q60 Concept paints a pretty picture of the brand's future
Tue, Jan 13 2015Infiniti's final teaser for the Q60 Concept may have given away the shape of the curvy coupe ahead of its debut at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, but that's not necessarily such a tragedy for this model because the design has so many subtle touches. The more you look at it, the more cool details and ornate lines you notice. What initially looks fairly simple up front belies a multitude of fascinating details, including the F1-inspired lower air dam and the subtle fin at the tip of the hood. The design around the C-pillar may be complicated but is also attractive thanks to the confluence of design from the rear fender arch, beltline and crescent-shaped cutout in the window. The concept's interior also takes a minimalist approach. It's predominantly covered in cream leather and features sports seats in quilted leather. A mix of Alcantara and carbon fiber trim are able to show off the concept's performance intentions, though. Meanwhile the glass roof makes sitting behind the wheel feel airy and inviting. Underneath, the Q60 Concept's arching hood is the company's conceptual 3.0-liter, twin-turbocharged V6 and a seven-speed automatic. Infiniti promises the production of the mill is coming in the next two years. The big question is whether the mix of sharp edges and flowing lines on the Q60 Concept really see production without too much alternation. Infiniti plans to unveil the production version next year. Until then, check out how the model appears now on the floor of the Detroit show. Driver Lets Infiniti Do The Driving For Him
Mon, Aug 18 2014Self-driving cars seem like the way of the future, but some can't stand the wait. Like this guy, driving down Germany's famous Autobahn in an Infiniti Q50 with Active Lane Control. To test how active the Active Lane Control feature really is, he moves from the driver's seat to the back seat and lets the car's suite of safety systems take control. Active Lane Control debuted in 2013 as part of the Lane Departure Prevention system. It helps Q50's driver use fewer steering inputs by compensating for road conditions. It works with the LDP to keep the vehicle in its intended lane. Used with cruise control, the car maintains its position fairly well on the road. Active Lane Control is only there to help however, not drive for you. While the technology is impressive, it certainly isn't up to the task of navigating the road full time. This driver/passenger is putting his life and the lives of everyone around him in serious danger. We suggest other Infiniti owners wait for the real deal. The future is closer than you think. Infiniti QX50 confirmed for NY debut
Thu, Mar 26 2015It's been eight years now since Infiniti took the wraps off its smaller crossover. The model initially known as the EX was subsequently renamed the QX50 in the brand's broad nomenclature shakeup a couple of years ago, but now it's received what promises to be a comprehensive makeover to be revealed at the New York Auto Show next week. Though it hasn't given us any photos to go on (that's the current model pictured above), Infiniti has revealed that "the updated QX50 has a wheelbase increase of more than three inches, creating additional rear legroom and interior volume." We're also told to expect "new front and rear fascias, wheels, side sills, as well as a slightly higher ride stance." Nissan's rival to the likes of the BMW X3, Audi Q5, Volvo XC60 et al is offered Stateside with a 3.7-liter V6 driving the rear wheels or all four, but is offered overseas as well with a 3.0-liter turbodiesel. We'd expect the revised model to carry over the same engines, perhaps with some revisions, when it reaches showrooms this fall.
