Honda renders three-row MPV for Jakarta reveal

Mon, 22 Jul 2013

In preparation for the Indonesia International Motor Show coming up in September, Honda has released a teaser sketch (click to enlarge) of a new three-row MPV - specifically designed for this region - set to debut at the show. Honda says this yet-to-be-named people mover will be positioned in the entry-level MPV segment, which it says is a crucial part of the Indonesian auto market.
While there is no way to tell the size of the vehicle based off this rendering, it does appear to be far more stylish than the Honda CR-V, although the stepped-down beltline and the pinched shape of the rear quarter window have us thinking that Honda designers have been staring at the BMW i3 a little bit too much. The New Honda MPV will be powered by a 1.5-liter gas engine, and it goes on sale (and production) in Indonesia early next year. Honda has released a short press release for the new model, which is posted below.

Honda and Mugen take tuned rides to Tokyo Auto Salon

Tue, Dec 29 2015

The Makuhari Messe will open its doors in a couple of weeks for the 2016 Tokyo Auto Salon, featuring all manner of custom creations from Japan's automakers. And Honda will be out in force with an array of roadsters, hatchbacks, minivans, and crossovers. Included among them will be some modified with parts from the company's Modulo customization catalog, but the ones we're most interested are being prepared by its longtime performance partner Mugen. Mugen was founded decades ago by Hirotashi Honda, son of Soichiro Honda, the man who started the motor company for which his name is best known. Over the years Mugen has prepared Honda engines and vehicles for motorsport competition, but also customizes the company's road cars for higher levels of performance. At the Tokyo salon, Honda and Mugen will display two amped-up takes on the S660 roadster, along with a Civic Type R featuring even more extreme aero appendages, plus a modified Step WGN Spada minivan and a customized HR-V crossover. Alongside the Mugen show cars, Honda will also display an array of Modulo custom concepts. The lineup includes accessorized versions of the S660, Civic Type R, and Step WGN, but also customized takes on the Fit, N-One, and N-Box. While it's at it, Honda will also showcase some of its racing machinery and motorcycles, including the McLaren-Honda MP4-30, NSX Concept-GT, and the Concept CB cafe racer it displayed at the main Tokyo Motor Show a few months ago. Scope out all the modified automobiles in the Mugen gallery above and the Modulo gallery below for a closer look. Related Video:

Five automakers now being investigated by NHTSA for airbag woes

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

It appears that Toyota's renotification to owners of recalled vehicles from last year is just the tip of the iceberg for what could potentially be a much larger industry-wide recall. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is opening a preliminary evaluation investigation into roughly 1.1 million vehicles from Chrysler, Honda, Mazda, Nissan, Toyota and parts supplier Takata regarding faulty airbag inflators in several models.
NHTSA has received six reports - three directly, two from Takata and one from Toyota - of vehicles with ruptured airbag inflators from 2002-2006, which resulted in three injuries. So far, all six incidents have occurred in high humidity areas like Florida and Puerto Rico. According to Toyota's latest recall announcement, the inflators may have an improper propellant that could cause it to rupture in a crash and the bag to deploy abnormally.
This new investigation follows a previous recall from April 2013 of about 3.4 million vehicles worldwide for the airbag inflators from Takata. As Autoblog reported, Toyota jumpstarted the new situation when it found that the original list of serial numbers for the faulty part was incomplete and discovered more cars in need of replacement. Honda and Nissan told us that they were investigating whether further models would need called in again as well. Mazda told Autoblog: "Regarding the current Takata situation, we're working closely with NHTSA and investigating the situation, but nothing else to report at this time." Chrysler Group responded to us with the statement: "Chrysler Group engineers are conducting the appropriate analysis. The Company will cooperate fully with the National Highway Traffic Administration."
