I have here a very nice GMC Typhoon from 1992. This is a dream car for me and I got it because I had the time and money for a project car. Due to life, I am short on time now. I hate to see it go, but a truck like this needs an owner that can give it the time it needs. Maybe down the road I'll get another one, but that's my problem for later. So my sacrifice is your gain.

So lets do the good vs bad. Since you probably already know what this thing is, you'll probably want to know the worst and why am I only letting it go for so little. Dont worry, its not that bad. Just a lot of cosmetic stuff which I don't have the room or time to tackle.

<-------- BAD -------->
  • Rust. There's a good bit of underbody rust on this thing. I think one of the previous owners parked it on tall grass and left it for a while.
  • Drivers fender needs to be replaced. Of all the rust, the drivers side front fender is the worst. I've removed the cladding due to it. I didn't want the cladding to fall off while going down the road. I'll make sure the cladding is in the truck when its sold.
  • There's some other rust spots that will need more than just a cover up at some point.
  • Rear passenger side cladding has a chip in it
  • passenger side cladding under the door will probably need to be replaced or taken to a shop to have it fixed. got a hole in it.
  • AC has a small leak in the hose, everything else works fine.
  • Air compressor for the rear suspension is currently not working. Seems to be an electrical issue, haven't tracked it down yet. But everything is there.
  • Oil gauge on the dash has spun around and is now stuck. Installed an aux oil pressure gauge in the a-pillar.
  • It has keyless entry, and I have the box, but atm it doesn't seem to work. I think the remote just needs batteries.
  • There's a vacuum leak somewhere. I've replaced several of the lines but haven't gotten to all of them yet. Its not that bad because the cruise control still works. the vent controls work. etc. But there is a leak according to my vacuum gauge. :P

<-------- GOOD -------->
  • Pulls damn hard. will chirp all 4 tires off the line. Will give you tunnel vision if its grips just right
  • Runs like a champ. Will hold any speed and at the drop of a dime can take off.
  • Tires in excellent shape. Rears only have a few thousand miles on them.
  • Spare has never been on the ground.
  • Has all original wheels. No chips. No scratches. Still shines.
  • Front and rear limited slips are in excellent shape (this thing will not let go of the road)
  • New shocks all around
  • New brakes
  • Upgraded some of the vacuum lines to steal braided.
  • No oil leaks. No leaks at all.
  • installed a transmission aux cooler coupled to the existing cooler with all new high flow braided lines. Thanks to RPM for that.
  • Shifts firm and will hold.
  • All of the cladding is there.
  • AC works if the leak is fixed. I replaced the compressor with a new one and recharged it with r134. It worked for about 2 weeks. Seems there is a small leak where the hose and the condenser meet. Might just need an O ring.
  • Cruise control works perfectly.
  • All the lights work.
  • Fog lights are bright as hell
  • Upgraded halogen head lights. (still sealed headlights, just got those super bright ones)
  • Vent controls work (aka that switch set that controls where the air goes which was a $350 part)
  • a pillar pod cluster with oil pressure, boost gauge, and AFR gauge.
  • new fuel pump
  • Interior looks brand new. All of the leather shines in the sun.
  • Center console hinge still works (anyone that knows these things knows this alone is more rare than the truck itself)
  • Upgraded JVC radio. Its a DVD unit that does everything. MP3 DVD's, movies, FM/AM radio, and I've installed an AUX cable. Its also SAT ready, just needs the antenna which can easily be found. And I've got the remote control for the unit as well.
  • Paints in good shape except for the few rust spots mentioned above.

I've also got a Typhoon CD that has all the manuals, books, etc on it that'll go with the truck.

I also have a data link cable for hooking it up to a computer that I'll throw in for an extra $25.

This is a project truck, I'm selling it as it and with the buyer understanding that it a project truck. When I got it barely anything worked and it died on me 3 times before I got it home. I've put some time into this thing and thought I'd be keeping it forever. But plans change. I've gotten almost all the small stuff fixed that was working and a few major issues, and was starting to work on the body when other things in my life got in the way. It still needs some TLC. The biggest issue with this truck is the body. It needs a few panels replaced and you might as well get the whole thing repainted again so it all matches up.

Oh and the phone mount in the pictures of the dash will not go with the vehicle. I'm keeping that. It's just a suction mount, don't worry it didn't leave any marks.

I'll help however I can with shipping. As in I can drive it to meet a tow truck or if you are close by we can work out me getting it to you. But you pay shipping/gas. Or come get it and drive it home. I'll pick you up at the air port/train station/bus station.

If you want any additional pictures or have any questions feel free to ask and I'll get back to you. If I think of anything else I'll add it in as well.

General Motors designers sketch the GMC pickups of the future

Wed, Sep 23 2020

It's been a busy few years for GMC's team of stylists. They penned a new look for the Yukon and the Yukon XL, and they gave the Sierra 1500 a nip-and-tuck that we'll discover in the coming months. Overhauling these hugely significant models hasn't stopped them from exploring how the firm's design language can evolve. General Motors Design posted two forward-thinking renderings on its official Instagram account that illustrate two ways to move GMC's design identity forward. Karan Moorjani, who works as an exterior designer for the company's autonomous and electric vehicle division, created a truck that breaks all ties with the Sierra. It's characterized by a tall front end with a wide grille and thin LED headlights, sculpted sides, and an unusually low cab. Generously-sized fender flares and tires suggest Moorjani envisioned it as a serious off-roader. Joe Boniface, a member of GMC's Strategic Advanced Design team, took a more realistic approach to moving the design language forward and away from sister company Chevrolet's. His rendering shows a Heavy Duty model with a Denali-branded grille that takes up most of the real estate on the front end and encompasses horizontal rows of LED daytime running lights. It wears less chrome than the current-generation Sierra HD. Nothing suggests either truck is currently on its way to production; General Motors Design regularly publishes sketches from the brand's stylists. Its fascinating Instagram account also shows a Cadillac off-roader, a battle-ready Chevrolet pickup, and a high-riding, open-top two-seater with General Motors emblems that looks like a race car for the Moon.  "Often, these works are not intended for production," a GM spokesperson told Autoblog. "Instead, designers create them to hone their creative skills, to try new shapes or themes, and sometimes simply for the fun of sketching something badass. The GM Design Instagram account was launched to share some of the most compelling, most badass works GM Designers produce." They're sketches created for the sake of sketching, but they give us a peek at the ideas floating around the minds of the men and women who will draw the next generation of General Motors products. GM is quietly slashing prices on base models

Fri, Jan 30 2015

While General Motors' fourth quarter financial figures haven't yet been released, the automaker seems to be weathering a potentially rocky time well, even beating third-quarter projections last year. To keep the climb going, the company is launching new base trims for several popular models that make them cheaper than ever but with tight dealer margins. The new entry-level trims are the Chevrolet Cruze L, Equinox L, GMC Terrain SL and Buick LaCrosse 1SV. Buyers lose some content by picking them, but the prices are slashed. According to Cars Direct, the biggest savings are on the LaCrosse, where customers pay $31,065, plus $925 destination, $2,570 less than the previous base 1SB trim but must accept things like 17-inch wheels and no cargo net in the back. If you're wondering how Buick can remove only a little equipment but cut the price so much, it's because the company also slashed dealer margins. According to Cars Direct, the difference between the invoice and MSRP for the LaCrosse 1SV is only around $150, compared to around $1,350 before. The disparity is even greater for the Cruze with an $81 difference in the prices, compared to about $600 for the LS version. Showrooms are expected to keep very low stocks of these trims, though. "Dealers use such vehicles to get people in the door, but they do not generally want to do high volumes of these strippers. The margins are next to nothing; they don't make much money off these cars," said Ed Kim, Vice President of Industry Analysis for AutoPacific to Autoblog. Dealers are also expected to advertise that these new base trims undercut major competitors. For example, the Cruze L rings up for about $2,320 less than a Honda Civic LX, according to Cars Direct. One potential drawback for buyers is that these models might not be eligible for incentives. While the attractive prices might get customers into dealers, folks may not actually end up driving home with these entry-level models. Kim indicated base trims also make up a small portion of the sales mix. "Consumers aren't asking for stripped out vehicles, even at the low end of the marketplace," he said. GMC's Bronco-slaying SUV will remain a dream, report says

Fri, Aug 2 2019

GMC won't help rival Ford in its quest to dethrone the Jeep Wrangler, according to a recent report. The body-on-frame off-roader the firm planned as an alternative to the upcoming Bronco and the fourth-generation Wrangler allegedly fell victim to a top-down restructuring plan implemented recently by parent company General Motors. Citing anonymous inside sources, Muscle Car & Trucks reported the rugged SUV remained part of GMC's long-term product plan until November 2018. It was shaping up to be one of the company's most distinctive models in decades. It should have arrived as a dedicated off-roader developed and sold exclusively by GMC; it wouldn't have had a twin in the Chevrolet portfolio. The problem, according to the report, is that the off-roader (which might have revived the heritage-laced Jimmy nameplate) should have been built on the 32XX platform designed to underpin the next Chevrolet Colorado/GMC Canyon twins. General Motors canceled that project to save money, so the SUV was consigned to the attic before we even spotted prototypes testing on and off the pavement. The updated pickups will instead arrive on an evolution of the frame found under the models currently found in showroom. There's no word on why that architecture can't support a Wrangler-like SUV. GMC never confirmed plans to build an off-roader aimed at the Jeep Wrangler and the upcoming Ford Bronco, so it certainly won't validate reports claiming it has canceled the model. This isn't the first time we've heard about a body-on-frame SUV made by a brand in the General Motors portfolio, though. Hummer was supposed to take the fight directly to Jeep with an off-roader accurately previewed by the 2008 HX concept, but it shut down before it finished developing the model. Rumors of GMC picking up where Hummer left off have come and gone on a shockingly regular basis over the past few years, yet the Wrangler remains in a class of one.
