Ford Thunderbird 1959 430 Coupe (lifetime Black Plate California Car) on 2040-cars
Eden, Utah, United States
1959 Ford Thunderbird 430 Coupe. This is an original, rust free, Thunderbird with the original factory 430 Lincoln engine. It is a California Black Plate car, and I have the original California "Pink Slip" title which has been signed by the original owner. The original owner kept all of the repair receipts since the car was new.
I purchased the car two months ago. I wanted the 430 engine for the restoration of my "J Code" convertible. Since then, I found a 430 engine and I don't want to part out this original, complete "J Code" coupe. It is a unique original 1959 Thunderbird that is rust free and complete. When I got the car home, I changed the oil, disconnected the fuel pump so I wouldn't suck old gas into the fuel pump, charged the battery, and it started right up. The original engine sounds very good and should perform well. The previous owner took good car of the car, until they became too old to drive. They let it sit for almost ten years in their California garage. The original color according to the paint code letter "N" on the car is "Starlight Blue." I highly value my 100% positive feedback on Ebay and I want the new owner to know exactly what they are getting. With this in mind, I will list the negative aspects of the car in detail. Keep in mind, this is a completely original Thunderbird. 1. The interior is complete, but is tattered. The front seat is very tattered. It is a power seat and the side seat panel is missing. Please look closely at the photos. I took the front seat out, but it comes with the car. I took a photo of the dry floors with the seat out. 2. I have not driven the car since I bought it. I got the engine running, but I have not cleaned the gas tank or put it in gear. The original owner advised me that it runs good and both the engine and transmission have been rebuilt. (There are receipts to confirm this, but they are several years old.) 3. The car was repainted the, original color, several years ago. There was a minor dent repaired on the driver's door and the paint is chipping off. I took a close up photo of this issue. 4. There is a small dent in the front bumper. As far as I can determine, these are the problems. Again, please look closely at all of the photos. There were very few 430 Thunderbirds manufactured, and very few are left. If you want an easy restoration project of a rare, unique, Thunderbird, this is an ideal candidate. If I didn't have a 430 Convertible, I would keep this car, but I need the funds to continue my project. If you have less than 5 positive feedbacks in your Ebay feedback score, please email or give me a call before bidding. My phone number is (801) 745-5835. I will gladly answer any questions you have regarding the condition of the car. I want this to be a solid, straightforward, auction. A $500 deposit is required within 24 hours of the auction closing - unless other arrangements are made. Thanks for looking, and I hope the old Thunderbird finds a good home. On May-01-14 at 09:58:42 PDT, seller added the following information: In response to an Ebay member's questions, It has the original keys and, with the ignition switch turned on, the motor starts and the power windows work properly. I have disconnected the fuel line to the gas tank just in case there is bad gas in the tank, but the car runs and starts as it should. |

Ford's Explorer-based Police Interceptor to get 365-hp EcoBoost option
Tue, 20 Aug 2013Speeders beware, the police are going to be getting quite a bit faster. Ford has just announced that it will be offering its 3.5-liter, twin-turbocharged, EcoBoost V6 in the Explorer Police Interceptor. The new engine will be joining the existing 3.7-liter V6. The 365-horsepower, 350-pound-foot mill should be familiar to consumers as the powerplant that's found in the Ford Taurus SHO (and its LEO equivalent, the Taurus Police Interceptor) and the Ford Explorer Sport. It should also provide quite a kick in the pants to officers used to the naturally aspirated 3.7 and its 304 ponies and 279 pound-feet of torque.
The move to the more potent powerplant was born out of all the equipment officers need to carry on a day-to-day basis. These days, there's so much stuff that police need on a regular basis, that there's a genuine market for a faster Police Interceptor Utility, as it's known officially. The Explorer-based cruiser has already accounted for 68 percent of Ford's LEO sales in 2013, and that's with just the 3.7, and we'd only expect that number to increase once the twin-turbo, 3.5-liter V6 is available. Ford won't offer up any indication of what the take rate will be on the new engine, but we're guessing it'll be fairly high.
The success of the Explorer PI couldn't have come at a better time for Ford. The decision to end Crown Victoria production was not a popular one with police, and combined with Chevrolet and Dodge diving into the LEO market feet first, Ford hasn't been performing as well as it's wanted to. The Explorer has been helping it turn around, though. And with the inclusion of the EcoBoost, Ford also has a legit competitor for the Chevrolet Tahoe on the big utility side of the police market.
Ford GT to be revived, Le Mans battle upcoming
Sun, 05 Oct 2014Ford dominated the 24 Hours of Le Mans from 1966 to 1969, scoring four consecutive wins. Wouldn't it be great if the Blue Oval could go back to France for the 50th anniversary of that performance and show it can still compete in international endurance racing? Actually, the latest rumors indicate that could be exactly the case, and the car taking that checkered flag could be another revival of the Ford GT.
As the rumblings go, Ford wants to use a new supercar to take another crack at Le Mans, after considering some other possible alternatives. Substantiating these musings are reports that a Blue Oval rep was reportedly on hand for a recent meeting about 2016 GTE-Class rules, according to Road and Track. That would put the new GT in the same racing class as the Corvette, Ferrari 458 Italia, Porsche 911 and others.
It's not all about racing, though. If you win on Sunday, you want something to be able to sell on Monday. The revived GT is reportedly still a mid-engine supercar, but the exact engine is unclear. It's possible that it could even be shown or announced at the Detroit auto show in January, according to Motor Trend.
First-edition Detroit muscle raises millions for charity at Barrett-Jackson
Mon, Jan 19 2015Amidst all the classic metal crossing the auction block each year in Scottsdale, AZ, Detroit automakers have a tradition of donating the first examples of their most enticing new muscle cars, with the proceeds of their sales going towards worthwhile charities. This year, Barrett-Jackson handled three noteworthy examples. The highest price among them was the first Ford Shelby GT350R Mustang with the VIN #001, which raised $1 million for the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. General Motors donated the first new Chevy Corvette Z06 Convertible, the first retail example of the droptop supercar garnering $800,000 for the United Way. Along with the Z06, GM also donated the first new 2016 Cadillac CTS-V sedan, which brought in $170,000 for Detroit's College for Creative Studies. Although these were the headline Motown muscle machines furnished by the automakers themselves, they weren't the only vehicles auctioned off for worthy causes. A 1950 GM Futurliner bus donated by collector Ron Pratte led the charge when it brought in $4.65 million for the Armed Forces Foundation. Other lots included a custom Jeep Wrangler donated by SEMA ($85k), a new M5 donated by BMW ($800k), a '79 Oldsmobile Cutlass Hurst ($140k), '39 Cadillac LaSalle C-Hawk ($410k), Jeff Gordon's 1999 NASCAR-spec Chevy Monte Carlo ($500k) and a Victory Cross Country 8-Ball motorcycle ($180k). All told, the charity lots raised over $8.7 million for local and national charities.
