1978 Ford Thunderbird 26,000 original miles, garage kept since new. The car has a 351/400 M engine, motorcraft 2bbl carbureator, and an automatic transmission. The car could probably use a minor tune up because it has sat more than it has been driven. The factory air conditioning still retains the R12 refrigerant and blows cold. The tires on the car were replaced about 4 years ago with new radials because of dry rot. There is no rust on the body. It was Z-barted when new. There are about 4 dings in the hood where it appears as if something fell out of the rafters of the garage onto the hood. I am sure that a PDR (paintless dent removal) company could remove the dings. There is also a ding on the passenger side door. The original bronze paint shines nicely with a few imperfections/discoloration on the headlight doors. The underside of the car is original and very nice. The interior is like new with the exception of some discoloration on the door panels and a small scrape/mark on the backseat. The factory headlights open and close like new. The factory clock still ticks like a new one. The only thing on the car that quit working is the fuel gauge. The car is completely original with the exception of the radio. The original radio was replaced with an am/fm cassette when the car was fairly new. I have owned the car for about 6 years and I purchased it from my wife's grandfather. The car is basically an untouched original. Truckmakers squabbling over who can sell Jimmy Fallon a pickup
Sat, 08 Mar 2014Snagging a celebrity endorsement is a big deal for automakers, as evidenced by the recent efforts of the Detroit Three to try and woo The Tonight Show's newest host, Jimmy Fallon, into one of their trucks.
After announcing during Wednesday night's show that he was in the market for a pickup truck, Fallon set off a firestorm of efforts on Twitter, with both Ford and Chevrolet petitioning the funnyman to test out a truck. According to Ad Age, Ford recommended the King Ranch edition of its next-generation F-150 while the show was still airing. Chevy, meanwhile, waited until the next morning to pitch a Silverado to Fallon.
The winner of this social media feeding frenzy, though, was Ram. Promoting a variation of its "Guts, Glory, Ram" tagline, the Auburn Hills-based manufacturer created the hashtag #GUTSGLORYFallon. It even went so far as to park a Ram 1500 outside 30 Rockefeller Center in New York, where The Tonight Show is filmed. On the back of the Ram sat a sign, reading "Big enough, Jimmy? Test it out," referencing a joke from the Wednesday show.
2014 Ford Mustang GT
Fri, 17 May 2013I was more than a year removed from my last experience with the Mustang GT and its delicious 5.0 V8 when this new 2014 example rolled up to my driveway recently. Good weather and a planned road trip across the state meant that I would get plenty of seat time in this conservatively specified example, too. In total, I logged about 400 miles in a week of driving - not a lot for some of you super commuters out there, but quite a lot for this work-from-home journalist.
The basic formula of the 5.0 has stayed the same for 2014. The 2013 model year saw a number of updates to keep the Mustang fresh until it's replaced with an all-new generation for 2015. So, for its bon voyage tour, the fifth-generation Pony Car has seen only a few modifications: a couple of new paint colors (Oxford White and Ruby Read Metallic), trim and wheel revisions and, sadly, the deletion of the Boss 302 from the Ford lineup. However, while the limited-edition Boss is likely to reappear sometime after the gen-six Mustang makes its debut in 2015, the GT Track Package cars like the one I tested provide at least a partial solution for those looking for hot laps.

Ford Fiesta ST in startling track battle against Toyota GT86
Wed, 26 Jun 2013On the surface, there's very little that the Ford Fiesta ST and Toyota GT86 (or the Scion FR-S that is sold in the US, or the largely similar Subaru BRZ) share in common. One is a hatchback with power coming from a turbocharged engine routed to the front wheels. The other is a coupe with power coming from a naturally aspirated four-cylinder boxer engine routed to the rear wheels.
Thing is, both of them are reasonably priced performance cars aimed at a similar segment of the automotive marketplace, so a comparison isn't out of the question.
