I HAVE OWNED THIS BIRD SINCE 1997. SHE IS MECHANICALLY SOUND. JUST BEFORE MY PURCHASE THE ENGINE HAD BEEN REBUILT. THREE YEARS AGO I HAD THE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. I HAVE DRIVEN HER LESS THAN 200 MILES SINCE. THE FRONT FLOOR PAN ON THE DRIVERS SIDE NEEDS REPAIR. I PURCHASED NEW FLOOR PAN SECTIONS AND NEW CARPET TO INSTALL ONCE THE FLOOR HAS BEEN REPAIRED. HAVE ANOTHER DRIVERS DOOR IN PRIMER READY FOR PAINT AND INSTALL. ALSO HAVE ANOTHER HOOD THAT GOES WITH THE CAR. HAVE INSTALLED MANY OTHER PARTS OVER THE YEARS. GEARBOX WAS RE-SEALED AT THE SAME TIME THE TRANSMISSION WAS DONE. SOME BLISTERING OF PAINT AND SMALL AREAS OF RUST HAVE STARTED. THIS CAR CAN BE DRIVEN ANYWHERE BUT DOES NEED RE-PAINT AND DETAILING. POWER WINDOWS AND SEAT WORK. THE SWITCH FOR THE PASSENGER DOOR WINDOW SHOULD BE REPLACED. I MAY HAVE ONE THAT WILL GO WITH THE CAR IF SOLD. BACK IN '05 I HAD THE REAR BUMPER AND TAIL LIGHT "Q"S RE-PLATED AS WAS THE INTERIOR WINDSHIELD TRIM. FACTORY TINTED GLASS. FEEL FREE TO EMAIL FOR MORE INFO. CAR DOES NOT HAVE A/C. A great many buyers fled from full-size body-on-frame SUVs to car-based crossovers in large measure to save fuel. But that doesn't mean there's still not a buying audience for more traditional truck-based utility vehicles, and those consumers doubtlessly wouldn't mind saving some dollars at the pump, too. According to Motor Trend, those shoppers might be in luck.
That's because the magazine has confirmed that Ford isn't walking away from the full-size SUV segment, and it's poised to do something about its offerings' economy ratings, too. According to MT, global Lincoln director Matt VanDyke has hinted that the next Navigator may drop two cylinders and go with a V6 model - the current model gets just 14 miles per gallon in the city and 20 on the highway from its 5.4-liter V8. The obvious fitment would be Ford's 3.5-liter twin-turbo EcoBoost V6, an engine that has spread like kudzu throughout the rest of the Blue Oval's large vehicle lineup.
Downsized turbocharged engines like Ford's EcoBoost franchise have come under fire as of late for not delivering their EPA fuel economy ratings, but their benefits extend beyond consumption - the 3.5L offers superior power and a better torque curve than the naturally aspirated V8. MT also suggests that Ford's 3.7-liter V6 could form the base engine for the next Navi - it has similar horsepower but a lot less torque than the current 5.4L. That may be less of a problem with the next generation tipped to go on a diet, which could level the playing field somewhat.

Ford says C-Max mpg reduction has hurt sales

The Ford C-Max is having a rough time. Sales for the five-door hybrid hatchback were down 39.1 percent in March to 2,295 cars, and sales from January through March were down 42.5 percent to 5,566 units. In an interview with The Detroit News, Ford Americas boss Joe Hinrichs places the blame on lowering the model's fuel economy rating.
"We're definitely seeing consideration on C-Max decline over time. We need to reinvest in the product because it's a great car," said Hinrichs to The Detroit News.
The company was hit with bad publicity over the C-Max when owners in multiple states filed class action lawsuits that alleged the cars weren't able to meet the stated fuel economy. Ford eventually re-rated the model from 47 miles per gallon city, highway and combined to 40 mpg city, 45 mpg highway and 43 mpg combined. To soften the blow of the change, the automaker sent checks to the owners to make up some of the difference. Initially, Ford claimed that demand remained strong for the hybrid. However, the latest sales figures and Hinrichs' statement seem to show the opposite.

NHTSA closes Ford F-150 EcoBoost acceleration probe

Typically when we report on the findings of an investigation from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it's because the government body has discovered a safety issue and prescribed a recall. In this case, however, NHTSA has closed an investigation into a reported performance deficit without ever getting to the recall stage.
The issue revolves around the Ford F-150 - specifically those equipped with the 3.5-liter EcoBoost engine - of which some 360,000 were built in the 2011, 2012 and 2013 model years. After receiving an initial 95 complaints, NHTSA opened an investigation last May - almost a year ago - into the reported issue of reduced engine power under hard acceleration. The agency has since received a total of 525 such complaints, and Ford itself reported receiving over 4,000.
Together, NHTSA and Ford determined that the problem resulted from cylinders misfiring, an issue itself stemming from water getting into the charge air cooler (CAC) mated to the turbochargers. In particularly humid or rainy conditions, water was found to get into the CAC, causing some of the cylinders to misfire, which in turn triggered the ECU to disable those cylinders in order to protect the catalytic converter from damage.
