Originally a high desert southern Idaho car, 352/cruiseomatic trans, Palm Springs Rose paint with black/white vinyl interior. Originally from our inventory of restorable project cars, purchased in the mid 90s by a retired law enforcement officer to restore in his retirement years. He sold it back to us after completing all of the mechanical work. Restoration was finished at our in-house restoration shop early this year and has done the show and shine tour this summer. Now its ready for a new home!!!
The original 352 was bored .030 and fitted with new pistons, crank turned .010 and all new parts installed. The heads were rebuilt with new valves and hardened seats. All the machinework was done at a reputable machineshop. A Edelbrock Performer intake, edelbrock carb, and pertronics ignition conversion were installed along with a later Ford alternator. A complete new exhaust was installed. The original trans was rebuilt and installed and the front suspension was cleaned, re built and installed. The brakes were rebuilt at the same time with new wheel cylinders ect. The rear diff was treated to a good cleaning and re-seal. Wheels were changed to later tbird 15; and new Goodyear tires installed (the original 14; wheels go with the car if you want them). Milage at the time of restoration was believed to be 81,000 or close to that. At this point the owner decided to sell it back to us after working on it for about 10 years. Bodywork consisted of repairing some light damage to the front above the bumper, and some minor dings and dents here and there. The car was 99% rust free and did not require any patches to the floors or trunk. All of the materials were quality BASF primers and base/clear products. Paint was re-done in the original code V Palm Springs Rose. The interior is completely new top to bottom including headliner, dash pad, carpet, door panels and seats. Driver seat is power and works good. Over $2000.00 was spent on the interior alone!!! New weatherstripping was used on the doors and roofrails. The wipers were converted to electric New Port engineering wiper motor. All of the stainless trim was polished and re-installed. A new trunk trim kit and underhood kit was installed.
Since restoration was completed early this year, the car has done the local show and shines and cruise nights. The engine runs flawlessly, the trans shifts smooth, everything works great. Excellent driver, very dependable. About the only issues it has are- The windshield is original therefor has a few light scratches accumulated over the years. The bumpers are also original but the chrome is driver quality only, when examined up close they present some scratches and thin spots. They are very straight and no dents so a good replating job shouldnt cost that much. Overall a very nice car, no way one could be restored for the reserve amount, let alone parts and labor costs.

Takata air bag recall list
Tue, Dec 9 2014The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration confirmed yesterday that 33.8 million vehicles with Takata airbags are going to be recalled. It's the largest recall in automotive history. The already record-breaking rate of automotive recalls this year shows no signs of slowing down, especially since millions of cars with defective airbags made by global supplier Takata are under ongoing scrutiny. The federal government is warning owners that inflator mechanisms in the air bags can rupture, causing metal fragments to fly out when the bags are deployed. The faulty air bags have already been blamed for multiple deaths. How do you know if your vehicle is safe? The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration released an updated list of vehicles under recall. Sometimes however, the government's website will crash and the list may not be complete. Check your VIN at the NHTSA website to make sure. The list of cars affected by the recall has not been released, but seem to span multiple models over the years for many of the automakers.
Ford issues six recalls covering 101,000 vehicles for multiple issues
Tue, 08 Jul 2014Ford is announcing six separate recalls for a variety of issues affecting a dozen models and a total of 100,610 vehicles in North America. However, according to Ford spokesperson Kelli Felker, "None of them have caused accidents or injuries." Half of them cover fewer than 1,000 cars.
The largest recall covers 92,022 North American examples (about 83,250 in the US) of some models of the Ford Taurus, Lincoln MKS, Ford Interceptor, Flex and Lincoln MKT from the 2013 and 2014 model years; the 2012-2014 Edge and the 2014 Lincoln MKX. All of them have a potential issue with the halfshaft on the right side that might not be fully seated and could move outward over time. If it shifts too far, the models may no longer be able to drive, and the condition could also allow the vehicles to roll away, even when in Park. Dealers will inspect the shaft to make sure it's seated and will replace the part if necessary.
The next-largest recall covers 5,264 North American examples (4,867 in the US) of the Ford F59 Commercial Stripped Chassis from the 2011-2014 model years. It's possible that an electrical junction box can corrode in areas with salty roads and short circuit. The problem could potentially cause a fire. Dealers will replace the box with an improved design.
Ford cleans up painting process with cameras
Thu, 22 Aug 2013Knowing how the bacon gets made rarely entices us and, in the same vein, the same usually goes for knowing about how new cars get painted. But in both instances, however, quality - or a lack thereof - is instantly obvious. In terms of the latter, Ford is showing off its new paint quality process with 3D Dirt Detection Technology to find imperfections in vehicle paint more easily and more quickly.
This process - being performed on the F-150 SVT Raptor above - uses 16 computer-controlled cameras to create a three-dimensional model (inset) of the vehicle to detect flaws in the paint including dirt particles, which can then be buffed out manually. Ford says this new technology cuts down on time spent looking for paint flaws and gives workers more time to correct those that are discovered.
Currently, Ford only uses its 3D Dirt Detection Technology system at three factories (the Dearborn, MI facility, along with those in Louisville, Kentucky and Valencia, Spain), but it will soon spread to five more plants in North America. Ford has released a video and press release for this innovative and unexpectedly interesting process, both of which are posted below.
