California vehicle, with original black plates (not a YOM replacement)

1963 Ford Ranchero, first year of the 260 cubic inch V8 (one of approximately 2,225).  Bench seats, column shift.  Deluxe dash pad is in perfect condition.

Over $22K spent on restoration.  Trim is complete, rechromed and is in show condition. Vehicle is very fast, reliable and fun to drive.

A brand new engine (not rebuilt) with Edelbrock aluminum heads was installed about 6,000 miles ago (original 260ci engine not available) . The exhaust sound is pure music to your ears with the dual exhaust and headers.

The suspension has been reworked to minimize bump steer and maximize performance with fun.  Front disc brakes, Granada conversion and it stops on a dime.

Floor pans have been replaced, the underside is very nice. Cowling does not leak. Bed is in very nice condition.  Heater completely restored. Interior is very stock with the original bench seats and jack+spare tire behind the seat.

Deluxe AM radio installed  (not hooked up -- unknown condition) . I listen to MP3's over the dual voice coil speaker installed in the stock speaker mount..

This is an easy car to drive and inexpensive to insure and maintain.

I've owned the car for about a year, had a recent surgery and cannot keep all my toys anymore. I will miss this car.  I am driving this car, so the miles will go up a bit.

Junkyard Gem: 1991 Mercury Capri

Mon, Sep 19 2016

Ford has gotten a lot of use out of the Capri name in the United States. First, there was the Lincoln Capri in the 1950s, followed by the Ford Capri Mk1 (which was sold by Mercury dealers in the USA but never actually badged as a Mercury). Then came the 1979-1986 Mercury Capri, built on the very successful Fox Platform and essentially a clone of the Mustang. Finally, in 1991, the Australian Ford Capri came to the United States. Here is an example of this rare car that I spotted in a Northern California self-service yard not long ago. Mechanically speaking, the 1991-1994 Capri was a Mazda 323 under the skin, complete with a member of the same B-series engine family that went into such cars as the Miata and Ford Escort. So, for a few years in the early 1990s, car shoppers who wanted a sporty Mazda convertible could choose between a Miata and a Capri. The Capri had front-wheel-drive, but could be had with factory turbocharging. These cars were reliable and fun, but had a tough time competing with the Miata in the showroom battles. You'll see the occasional example now and then, but most of the 1991-1994 Capris have met the same fate that awaits this one. Related Video:

2017 Ford Fusion facelift comes into focus

Sun, Apr 12 2015

The latest generation Ford Fusion has been one of the better-looking members of the mainstream midsize sedan ranks since its introduction for the 2013 model year. In the automotive world, though, even the most attractive designs don't stay fresh for long. These new spy shots shed some light on what to expect when the model is refreshed, possibly for 2017. With only a modicum of camouflage here, it's not exactly hard to see where the Fusion is getting design tweaks. Up front, the wide grille remains, but the lower air dam appears to have restyled recesses for the fog lights. Also, while it's difficult to get an exact look, the headlights seem a little rounder through the concealment. Moving to the rear, the lower bumper shows some tweaks, but those circular pipes are obviously just there for testing. With a light on, you can a good glimpse of the redesigned taillights too. Based on these photos, Ford's stylists know a good thing when they have it, and it doesn't look like the Fusion's general look will have any monumental changes. Still, it's worth a minute to click through the gallery for a preview of the refreshed design. Related Video:
