I FOUND THIS TRUCK ABOUT 3 YEARS AGO...Barn find. STORED ABOUT 17 YEARS...The truck had been modified back in the 1970's. I just wanted to restore what was there.....Here is what I've done so far.....

  • Engine is about a 1971 302. I cleaned the fuel tank, put on a new fuel pump, rebuilt the carburator, new wires, new plugs, new electronic ignition, new 1 wire alternator, new starter, rewired everything and got it running. It runs good
  • Transmisson is a FMX 3-speed automatic. Changed filter & fluid. It works and shifts good, but park does not work. I added a neutral safety switch from Dakota Digital
  • Rear End is a Dana 41. I put in all new Yoke, bearings and seals. Gears are 3:73. I didn't replace them. They seem pretty good.
  • I welded up all the visible rust. The body ended up fairly straight. Paint is Hot Rod Black Urethane and Red Oxide primer with a Urethane clear coat to protect the original petina on the doors and cab
  • All new white oak wood floor in box with stainless steel hardware and Urethane finish
  • Interior - Custom all steel dash with dakota digital guages and new stereo. Mustang steering wheel. Mustang bucket seats recovered. New Carpet. Painted flames on dash & diamond plate on door panels. Rest is hot rod black. Seat belts are vintage military lap belts
  • All new brakes and brake hardware. New dual master cylinder mounted on firewall
  • Original straight axle & manual steering with all new tie rod ends
  • All new shocks
  • I replaced the Tires with some good used ones. The wheels were on there, so I stripped, refinished & clearcoated them.
  • Guages are used Dakota Digital. They all seem to work except for the gas guage. I put a new float in the gas tank, but still needs something.  I added a Dak Dig neutral safety. Now it shows the gears on the dash also. Turn signals & safety flashers also work.
  • Electrical...I rewired everything and put new light bulbs and sockets in. Everything is 12 volts, New battery.
  • Glass is all new
  • Rubber weatherstrip is all new
  • Window fuzzies are all new. Windows roll up and down nice
  • There is a heater in the cab, but it isn't hooked up. That will need some attention
  • Clear South Dakota Title. Truck has historical plates. You will need your own plates
  • Buyer is responsible for all transportation costs. I will assist in loading on your truck any way I can
  • Terms are CASH. Nothing Less. I would like something down and the balance when you pick up the truck. I will not let the truck go without full payment. There are no warranties. once the truck is paid for it's yours, so make sure before you buy. I will represent it as honestly as I can, but the buyer is ultimately responsible. PLEASE ASK QUESTIONS AND MAKE SURE YOUR CONCERNS ARE SATISFIED.

IT NEEDS: to have park repaired. Get gas guage working. Heater refurbished. Back bumper if you want one. Could use a New Exhaust system

I just restored what was done in the '70's so some of the original work is kind of crude. The motor mounts and trans mounts are home-made, but they work. The original frame has some welding on it, but it's solid. I would call it a survivor hot rod truck. RUNS & DRIVE. It goes down the road pretty darn good. . Engine has good power and trans is a good shifter. Brakes & steering are manual, but work like they did back in the day.

Please express any questions or concerns.

2015 Ford F-150 brings big aluminum to the Rust Belt [w/video]

Mon, 13 Jan 2014

Just when you thought you'd figured the fullsize truck market out, Ford goes and throws us a massive curve ball with the 2015 F-150. The big headline news aren't tow or payload ratings, though we're sure those figures will be fully competitive if not class leading, they haven't yet been announced. Instead, the big headline news Ford is highlighting are the truck's new aluminum-intensive structure and 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 engine.
And with good reason - all that aluminum means that Ford was able to cut a massive 700 pounds from the truck's curb weight. That is going to cause all sorts of great things to happen to the 2015 F-150's driving dynamics, performance and fuel efficiency, not to mention its ability to haul heavy loads. For those customers worried about the strength of aluminum versus the more conventional steel, Ford is quick to point out that many military vehicles, such as the HMMWV and Bradley Fighting Vehicle, use a very similar sort of aluminum alloy in their construction.
It's also worth mentioning that the backbone, a fully boxed ladder frame, is hewn from high-strength steel. Ford says "2015 Ford F-150 is the strongest and most durable F-150 ever," for what it's worth, claiming that "torture tested" in labs and in the real world for more than 10 million miles. What's more, the truck, in disguised form, completed all 883 miles of the Baja 1000.

Ford Mustang GT Bi-Fuel CNG

Tue, 23 Jul 2013

Highly intrigued, we recently visited a Southern California Gas Company office to check out several hybrid vehicles promising something new. Unlike more commonplace gasoline-electric hybrids, we were there to evaluate innovative gasoline-compressed natural gas (CNG) hybrids - yes, they run on unleaded gasoline and compressed natural gas. According to the experts on hand, this arrangement delivers extended range and reduced emissions while chipping in with lower operating costs than pure-gasoline vehicles. There are advantages over its gasoline-electric counterparts, as well.
The program is part of a three-way collaboration between The Carlab, a Southern California-based automotive consulting firm, Landi Renzo USA, a company specializing in alternative fuel solutions, and America's Natural Gas Alliance, a group that promotes CNG. Long story short, the team has engineered a way to allow a modified internal combustion vehicle to seamlessly switch between two fuels (gasoline and CNG) with no driver intervention. In theory, and if it works as well as promised, it's a win-win for the vehicle owner and the environment.
Parked at the Gas Company office were six different gasoline-CNG hybrid vehicles. To demonstrate the technology's versatility (just about any gasoline vehicle may be modified) Carlab brought a varied assortment of bodystyles, each from a different automaker. After taking a quick glance at the half-dozen in the parking lot, we made a beeline for the performance-oriented Ford Mustang GT - a 2012 model - with the six-speed manual gearbox.

Auto critic calls out Corvette, Mustang and Cherokee faithful

Mon, 26 Aug 2013

Most automotive purists fear change, but not without reason. Change, after all, did kill big-block V8s, along with most station wagons and manual transmissions. But change has also brought with it far more performance, safety and fuel economy - not to mention ridding the world of shag carpet interiors, bias-ply tires and those horrible motorized seatbelts of the early '90s.
By this time next year, the Chevy Corvette, Jeep Cherokee and next-generation Ford Mustang will all be on sale and will all, in some way, have angered or offended purists. To those critics, Mark Phelan of the Detroit Free Press is preemptively telling them to stop complaining - at least until they've all been driven. From the Corvette's square taillights and the Cherokee's radical nose to whatever pony car purists will harp on the 2015 Mustang for, Phelan's column points out the positives of automotive evolution and the negatives of staying the course for too long. That's fair enough, but do you think Phelan is on point, or all wet? Head on over to the Detroit Free Press to read his words, then have your say in Comments.
