1948 "f1" Ford Pickup on 2040-cars
Portland, Michigan, United States
|
I have owned this truck for 20 years. Purchasing it in August of 1994 from a man that brought it to Michigan from Soddy-Daisy, Tennessee. It has the factory 6-Volt electrical sys., the 226 cu.in., 6-Cylinder, 95 hp, flathead engine, with 6.8:1 compression ratio, 1 barrel carb., 3.73:1 axle ration and the "Non"- Synchromesh factory 4-speed transmission w/ granny gear. The restoration was done in 1993, when the flat glass was replaced, fiberglass running boards were installed, red oak bed boards installed and the truck was painted in single stage Black. I have had the carb, generator and radiator rebuilt, along with having the gas tank dipped & coated. Replaced the distributor cap, rotor, points, plugs & wires along with the belt and hoses ( general tune-ups ) over the years. I added a Dennis Carpenter 'RED' headliner / kick panel kit, along with beauty rings and hub caps and a quality 'California' brand truck cover. Note: The engine runs strong but is wound tight between 55- 60 mph with the factory flathead power train and the factory 3.73:1 gear. Last but not least I have all receipts dating back to 1993. PS: Note to those of you who I have told I would re-list the truck on June 25th. I have been changing over to a new Internet Provider. If any of you are entertaining this 'think it over again', this is the first day in 5 days that I have been able to connect to the internet for any extended period of time. It will drive you nuts ! |

Ford reports $3B profit in Q4, $6.9B for the year
Tue, 28 Jan 2014Good news out of Dearborn today, as Ford announced $3 billion in profit for the last quarter of 2013, a 90-percent increase over the same period of 2012. Net income for all of last year, meanwhile, jumped to $7.2 billion from $5.7 billion in 2012, while pre-tax profits sat at a decade-topping $6.9 billion for all of 2013.
The results of the substantial profit increases are bigger profit-sharing checks for UAW employees. How big? A record $8,800 on average for 47,000 UAW workers, making 2013 the biggest year for profit sharing in Ford history. In total, $414 million will be paid as part of the profit-sharing scheme.
Now, it should be pointed out that a fair portion of Ford's Q4 profits were due to tax benefits, totaling $2.1 billion, according to Automotive News. Total profits would have also been higher, had there not been a significant recall on the Escape, as well as plant issues in South America.
2016 Ford Explorer revealed with new 2.3-liter EcoBoost
Wed, 19 Nov 2014
A 2.3L EcoBoost four-cylinder takes over where the old 2.0 left off, making 270 hp and 300 lb-ft.
Right now, around 23 percent of all Ford vehicles sold in the United States is a utility vehicle. By 2020, Ford expects that figure to increase all the way to 29 percent. Put simply, SUVs and crossovers are very big business at Ford. So, when it comes time to update the Explorer, Ford's original sport utility vehicle, you can be sure that a whole heck of a lot of effort goes into the process.
Diesel Power finds the ultimate modified oil-burner
Sat, 24 Aug 2013For nine years, Diesel Power magazine has run the Diesel Power Challenge, this year's grindfest being "a week-long torture test that features seven events, nine trucks, 8,000 horsepower, and nearly 15,000 pound-feet of torque." The road to being crowned "the most powerful truck" starts with a dyno run, and then continues through the completion of a CDL-style obstacle course, an eighth-of-a-mile drag race while towing a 10,000-pound trailer, a quarter-mile drag race without a trailer, a fuel economy test in the mountains and finally a sled-pulling test through a 300-foot-long packed-mud pit.
What kind of trucks get into such a fight? Last year's winner, for instance - who upgraded his truck this year to prove he didn't "luck into the win" - drives a 2008 Ford F-250 Super Duty with a 6.4-liter Power Stroke V8 upgraded with a custom intake, Elite Diesel triple turbos and a two-stage nitrous system. Another competitor has a 2005 Dodge Ram 2500 powered by a 5.9-liter Cummins inline-six, upgraded with Garrett turbos, dual-stage nitrous, a seven-inch exhaust stack and twin fans built into the bed to cool the Sun Coast Omega transmission. The numbers on that truck: 1,255 horsepower, and 2,063 pound-feet of torque at the wheels. Naturally, as the image above might suggest, things don't always end well.
You'll find all five videos covering this years challenge below. A scene in the dyno video sums it all up perfectly: a competitor leaves his nitrous on too long and the crew is treated to some ominous poppings, he leans out the window, throws both hands up and shouts, "Amer'ca!"
