We stripped the car which was in original faded Raven Black down to metal and were pleasantly surprised to find ZERO rust or bondo anywhere on the whole body and frame. This project turned out to be a Frame Up restoration, the bodywork and paint was performed by Rick Flanders an autobody veteran and his comments are that he has never seen a car so straight with no damage or rust at all.
The 289 original motor was pulled and disassembled, bottom end and top end were extremely tight and clean, we installed a new timing chain and total gasket kit, had all exterior motor parts powder coated, including timing cover, all a/c and alternator brackets and reassembled. The original valve covers were painted in mustang dark blue.

I will be purchasing a new steering wheel, (Choice of Grant GT black or wood wheel, Buyer can choose). Will install all the floor body plugs, I have them just haven't installed yet. You may notice an oil drip on the bottom of the bell housing, my oil sending unit was leaking prior to the pic's, I didn't notice it until I already shot the pic's. It has been fixed and there are no leaks.
The Paint Job is 4 weeks old, PPG Raven Black Base Coat (factory matching color)
PPG Clear Coat, Color sanded, buffed three stages and final polish blue pad to create a beautiful original Raven Black finish. As you can see from the pic's, this paint job turns heads. There was one booboo while the buffing was taking place, the buffer handle knicked the driver top fender so the painter had to touch it up, I didn't include a pic but I am addressing the only flaw I know of in the paint itself. Other than that, this was a $9,300.00 paint job and took them 6 working days to complete.
The total restoration includes in excess of 500 man hours with meticulous detail work throughout the project. Receipts alone for the total restoration exceed $18,000.00 not including the purchase of the Straight Factory Black on Black Mustang Coupe. My buddy I purchased the mustang from installed a three speed in 1976 which I quickly pulled, then purchased a factory Top Loader along with a factory Hurst shifter and upgraded to a four-speed. I pulled the cover off, all gears are perfect and in tact, Tranny shifts perfectly, tight, smooth. The shifter nob is a vintage nob with the correct shift pattern engraved on the top. The engine had a two barrel intake which I also removed, purchased an original 4v intake and installed along with the 4-Barrel 650cfm Edlebrock. I had the air cleaner powder coated and I do have the snorkel as well, just not installed but will go with the sale.
We test drove the Mustang and it runs purrrrr-fect, very strong and responsive, turns well, brakes well and overall is a blast to drive. A/C is installed but not operating, all parts are there if you need a/c in your area. Original radio, stations come in with tuner but buttons do not engage. This is one excellent 1966 Mustang 4-Speed and whoever wins this auction will be very pleased.....Enjoy the pics and if you require more pics, I took over 200 shots of the entire restoration but ebay only allows 24 pics when they host the auction. Send your email address if you'd like more pics, I have shots of the body when sanded down to bare metal, then shot in primer sealer, base coat, clear coat all the way through....

Project Ugly Horse: Part IX

Nearly every flavor of exotic driveline has been shoved into the ubiquitous Ford at some point or another.
Chuck Schwynoch had been patiently listening to my ramblings on the other end of the phone for a solid half hour. I'm not too big of a man to know when to ask for help, and at this point, I desperately needed some assistance. The truth is, working on a machine like a Fox Body Mustang is as easy as breathing thanks to the wealth of information available on the web. Nearly every flavor of exotic driveline has been shoved into the ubiquitous Ford at some point or another, and odds are the sorry souls behind those builds shared the highs and lows of their torment with the internet community.
Consumer Reports criticizes small turbo engines for misleading performance, fuel economy claims [w/video]
Tue, 05 Feb 2013Consumer Reports has taken aim at at small-displacement, forced-induction engines, saying the powerplants don't manage to deliver on automaker fuel economy claims. Manufacturers have long held that smaller, turbocharged engines pack all power of their larger displacement cousins with significantly better fuel economy, but the research organization says that despite scoring high EPA economy numbers, the engines are no better than conventional drivetrains in both categories. Jake Fisher, director of automotive testing for Consumer Reports, says the forced induction options "are often slower and less fuel efficient than larger four and six-cylinder engines."
Specifically, CR calls out the new Ford Fusion equipped with the automaker's Ecoboost 1.6-liter four-cylinder engine. The institute's researchers found the engine, which is a $795 option over the base 2.5-liter four-cylinder, fails to match competitors in acceleration and served up 25 miles per gallon in testing, putting the sedan dead last among other midsize options.
The Chevrolet Cruze, Hyundai Sonata Turbo and Ford Escape 2.0T all got dinged for the same troubles, though Consumer Reports has found the turbo 2.0-liter four-cylinder in the BMW 328i does deliver on its promises. You can check out the full press release below. You can also read the full study on the Consumer Reports site, or scroll down for a short video recap.
Jay Leno and Lee Iacocca reflect on 50 years of Ford Mustang
Mon, 30 Dec 2013Lee Iacocca oversaw the birth of the Ford Mustang back in the 1960s, rocketing the new pony car nameplate into million-unit sales territory in its initial go-round and cementing its place in the history books. Thus, we were immediately drawn to this latest episode of Jay Leno's Garage, in which the funnyman hosts Iacocca for a look at the origins of Ford's most iconic sports car. The legendary auto exec is looking notably more frail than when we last saw him, but if we're being asked around as a video guest when we're 89 years old, we'll consider that evidence of a life well lived.
Serial No. 0001 is on hand for the occasion for Jay's romp through history, as is the historic Mustang 1 showcar from 1962. Of course, the all-new 2015 Ford Mustang GT (in prototype form) makes an appearance at the end of the episode with chief engineer Dave Pericak, as well. Get some, below.
