THE OVERVIEW
Offered for an appreciating new owner is this rare classic 1963 Ford Galaxie Sedan!
This FIFTY YEAR-OLD virgin BLACK LICENSE PLATE CALIFORNIA car has been driven only 28.400 miles since purchased new in Southern California. Finished in what is believed to be all original white over lipstick red interior, the phrase "IT'S ONLY ORIGINAL ONCE" certainly applies to this fabulous find. It is a great smooth solid driver as it is OR a great foundation to restore to concourse new condition OR better yet a superb candidate for a local police cruiser redo! Either way this is a cool unmolested time capsule find that can be enjoyed with its current patine and gobs of unique attention-garnering character! With that said, this old Galaxie sports a gret running 289 V8 engine mated to a smooth "cruise-o-matic" automatic transmission. Stopping power is provided by less-than stellar drum brakes. This black plate classic features working heater, lights, blinkers and horn AND the original am radio still works too! What else can I say? The trunk is all original with correct spare, the power steering is one-finger smooth and the car is being sold with the original owner's manual with the salesman's business card still attached, original hand-written window sticker, TWO sets of original keys with the little matching license plate key tag. Very cool stuff indeed! The car is being sold with clear and clean California title with current 2015 sticker and is smog-exempt here in California. This is an absolute gem for the Ford enthusiast with a four-figure buy-it now [the reserve is set considerably less!]

THE BODY AND TRIM
As I hope is articulated in the nearly 100 photos [see extra link], the exterior of this car is in fair to good VERY ORIGINAL condition overall. I would deem this car 99+% rust-free with only some light non-structural surface dusting on the worn paint finish which shows various small scrapes, nicks, faded/worn and pitted areas. The chrome is very nice and the car has nearly new rubber on the original steel wheels.

THE INTERIOR
The interior of this car is in  VERY good to excellent condition overall with all systems in perfect working order [except the gas gauge is inop!]. From the beautiful original steering wheel to the lovely door panels to the extra clean headliner and working radio to the barely worn seat upholstery, the groovy lipstick red interior of this classic is in amazingly original condition throughout with the weakest area being some moderate wear on the still- presentable red loop carpeting

THE DRIVING EXPERIENCE
This classic half-century old Ford starts and runs beautifully. While a bit cold blooded when started initially, when warm the engine purrs with quite reasonable and quiet power. The transmission seems to shift well, the suspension is solid and supple free of any clunks or rattles. The brakes are not exactly new Mustang GT quality but stop the car fairly well and straight. [perhaps a system bleed is in order]. The power steering is smooth and fingertip light and the car goes down the highway with nice tracking with just a slight mis-alignment pull to the right.

Would a Mustang-based Lincoln look like this?

Mon, 07 Jan 2013

Designer Josiah LaCalla has taken a stab at what a Ford Mustang-based Lincoln model might look like with the Continental Mark X1 concept. Make no mistake, Ford's luxury arm has made it abundantly clear that it won't be pursuing any new products outside of volume models, which means a flashy halo grand tourer like the one you see here isn't in the cards. LaColla used the Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG as a basis for his creation, which explains the long nose, but we certainly don't mind the idea of a rear-wheel drive Lincoln with a cabin pushed to the aft.
While we're dreaming, there's certainly nothing stopping us from imagining what's under that lengthy hood. We like the idea of the 5.8-liter supercharged V8 from the Shelby GT500 pushing the Mark X1 down the road, but how about something a little more inventive? Something like a high-revving, buttery V12 with enough torque to push the contraption well past 200 miles per hour. Dream a little dream, people.

Trucks, SUVs — and Camry — shine in mixed U.S. January vehicle sales

Thu, Feb 1 2018

DETROIT — Automakers posted mixed U.S. new vehicle sales data for January, with American consumers continuing to abandon passenger cars for the larger pickup trucks, SUVs and crossover models that manufacturers also love because they are far more profitable. Total industry auto sales for the month rose 1 percent versus January 2016. According to Autodata Corp, which tracks industry sales, the seasonally adjusted annualized rate (SAAR) of U.S. car and light truck sales in January fell to 17.12 million units from 17.44 million a year earlier. Analysts polled by Reuters had expected a January SAAR of 17.2 million units. U.S. auto industry sales fell 2 percent in 2017 to 17.23 million vehicles after hitting a record high in 2016 and are expected to drop further in 2018 despite a solid economy. Interest rates are rising and around 4 million late-model used cars will return to dealer lots this year to compete with more expensive new ones. Automakers have used consumer discounts to boost sales, a growing concern for observers who say this undermines resale values and profits. Discounts declined in January, but remained above 10 percent of manufacturers' recommended prices. ""I think the industry has accepted that (sales) volumes will fall somewhat in 2018 ... and I don't think the industry is going to go over the cliff with insane incentives," Mike Jackson, chief executive officer of AutoNation Inc, told Reuters after his company, the largest U.S. auto retail chain, posted a higher quarterly net profit. Mark Wakefield, head of the North American automotive practice for consultancy AlixPartners, had a gloomier perspective. The industry's less-than-stellar sales performance for January showed "we are now past the peak," he said. "Automakers are now selling the deal instead of the vehicle," he said. "That's a tough spot to be in because that treadmill is hard to get off once you're on it." General Motors January sales rose 1.3 percent, driven by a 16 percent rise in fleet sales. Sales to consumers fell 2.4 percent. GM posted strong gains for models such as the Silverado pickup truck and Equinox crossover model, while its passenger cars continued to struggle. Ford The Blue Oval posted a 6.6 percent sales decline for January, with retail sales down 4.3 percent. Sales of Ford's F-Series pickup trucks - America's best-selling vehicle brand for decades — rose 1.6 percent. Passenger cars were down more than 23 percent.
