Here's what it's like to drive the very first Ford Mustang cop car

As we recently discovered, there's something different about driving a police car. That's true whether you're talking about a modern Dodge Charger Pursuit or, yes, the legendary Ford Mustang SSP. Former Autoblog staffer and current Road and Track web editor Zach Bowman discovered this when he shanghaied a 2015 Mustang GT and made the trip to Nashville, TN to drive the very first Mustang SSP police car. The two-tone, V8-powered prototype was delivered into the welcoming arms of the California Highway Patrol back in 1981 for evaluation. Bowman chatted up cop-car aficionado Mike Strinich, the prototype's current owner, and managed to score some seat time in the car, which provided a unique interesting contrast to the SSP's 435-horsepower junior. Ford tops mid-year ranking of brands in the US

YouGov's mid-year Brand Index rankings of America's best perceived brands has been released, and Ford has found its way to the top. The Dearborn, Michigan based manufacturer beat out online shopping giant Amazon, The History Channel, and home improvement superstore Lowe's, to take the top spot.
Ford jumped from sixth overall in 2012 to first for 2013, but those that have been watching these rankings shouldn't be hugely surprised. Ford was rated the best perceived automotive manufacturer by the same organization last year. The Blue Oval's success on the overall brand rankings is made all the more impressive by the complete lack of other automakers on the list.
YouGov (that is, survey respondents) cited Ford's first quarter of 2013 business, which saw an increase in market share and the best earnings recorded in over 10 years. Successfully launching the Focus and Fusion (pictured) and keeping them fresh in the minds of consumers has also contributed to Ford's best overall score.

Shelby Baja 700 takes Ford F-150 SVT Raptor to the next level

The Ford F-150 SVT Raptor can be called many things, but "underpowered" is not one of them. Still, that's never going to deter a company like Shelby from taking the off-road monster even further. Pictured here is the Baja 700, an even more extreme take on the Blue Oval's outgoing performance off-roader. The legendary Ford tuner has fitted it with a new supercharger, throttle body, injectors, heat exchanger and Borla exhaust, boosting output to over 700 horsepower. Of course Carroll's boys didn't stop there, thoroughly reworking the suspension with 3-inch King coilovers, bypass rear shocks, Rogue Racing upper and lower control arms and more, fitted to 18-inch matte black wheels with BFGoodrich K02 off-road rubber. Naturally, it's got the requisite graphics and badging to go with it all, along with a skid plate and a reworked interior by Katzkin and a three-gauge dashboard pod. Only 50 examples will be made, each priced at $45,000 – over and above the price of the base vehicle, which sells for about the same. So you're looking at a good $90k for this monster truck, before auxiliary lighting and other options are taken into account. Related Video:
