I am listing this 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 2-door hardtop for a friend.  Any specific questions should be directed to him (Ray) at 515-290-9060.

This 1959 Ford Fairlane 500 is really a fairly decent car.  The car starts, runs and drives well, and stops with decent brakes.  The exhaust seems a little loud though.  The paint is poor but the body is pretty solid.  The underside has the typical and expected surface rust.  I didn't see any serious or alarming frame rust.  I did notice sume rust through at the bottom of the driver's door jam at the front edge of the sill plate.  I have not had the car on a lift or crawled under.  The car does seem very solid while driving and braking.

The chrome is fair and the stainless is good.  All of the trim appears to be there and complete.  The door window frames, door handles, rear taillight housings, trunk V, side mirror, etc. have some pitting.  Good glass.  Body pretty straight.  All lenses are intact.  Tires are a little old but seem roadworthy, although I have not driven the car at speeds over 35 MPH.

The engine is a 351.  I don't know if its a Windsor or Cleveland.  Sounds smooth with little to no vibration.  Good brakes.  Trans shifts well.  The doors, hood and trunk open and shut solidly.

All of the windows and vents work well.  Dome light works.   Fuel guage, wipers, heater/defroster blower 2-speed fan, and speedometer work.  All of the turn signals blink and on the dash too.  Headlights are working.  Not working: horn, radio, and clock.  So, its a running, driving, operable car as-is.  The odometer has 67,287 on it.  Mileage on the 351 is unknown.  The following are the numbers from the trim tag:  Body-65A, Color-A, Trim-56, Date-O4H, Trans-4, Axel-5.

The interior is decent and original.  Carpet is old but the seats are pretty good.  OK door panels and dash.  Guages are readable.  The seats are comfortable.

This is a fairly rare car and if improved some, could be a real neat cruiser.  Feel free to ask any questions.  Please call the owner, Ray, at 515-290-9060.  Sold in as-is condition.  Personal inspection available.

Ford Mustang challenges Lamborghini in amazing drift battle

Fri, Dec 18 2015

Engines scream and tires billow with smoke as Vaughn Gittin Jr. and Daigo Saito stage a drift battle through an abandoned Japanese resort that looks like a Russian village in this stunning clip. The high-performance ballet of these amazing machines sliding around makes this one of the best videos of the year. To fight this duel, Gittin straps into his 550-horsepower Ford Mustang, and Saito meets the pony car's challenge with a drift-prepped Lamborghini Murcielago. The drivers hit a curving road and show expert car control as the men slide these very different vehicles just inches from each other. Eventually, night descends, and they add some fire to the scene to give the stunts a more apocalyptic look. The production values for this short clip are phenomenal, and the editing makes the viewer feel right in the middle of the action. If you want to get behind the scenes of this impressive display of drifting, Speedhunters did a great job capturing the event in photos. Related Video:

Inside the 2016 Ford Focus RS at the New York Auto Show

Fri, Apr 3 2015

The Ford Focus RS made its US debut Wednesday at the New York Auto Show, offering Americans their first chance to experience the hot hatch live and in the flesh. Naturally, we wanted to know more, especially about what the Focus RS will mean to US buyers. We caught up with John Wicks with Ford Performance program management and Omar Odeh, a Focus product marketing manager, on the show floor of the Javits Center in New York, where they explained the ins- and outs of all-things Focus RS. The car was first revealed in Germany in February, and then traveled to the the Geneva Motor Show in March. It will employ a modified version of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder used in the 2015 Mustang tuned to make more than 315 horsepower. It also received upgraded brakes, suspension components and aerodynamic pieces compared with more sedate Focus models. Underscoring its sporting credentials, Ken Block helped Ford engineers during the hatch's development, and the Focus RS showcases a new all-wheel-drive system with torque-vectoring. The New York show debuted two colors that will be worn on the production Focus RS: a light, bright shade called Nitrous Blue and a more sinister hue named Stealth Gray. The Focus RS enters production late this year at a factory in Germany. New York Auto Show Ford Hatchback Performance Videos 2015 ny auto show

Facelifted Ford Focus caught testing in the cold

Wed, 18 Dec 2013

It's that time in the life of the Ford Focus to get a little work done - a nip-tuck here, some Botox there. Yes, Ford is testing a facelifted version of its global C-segment entry, which first hit markets in Europe and North America in May 2011.
Like the touchup on the Fiesta, expect Ford's gaping grille to make its first appearance on the Focus. Our spy photographers point out that this is likely to be a more comprehensive makeover than previous spy shots suggested, based on the additional camouflage seen here on the front and rear ends of this five-door model. New head and taillights are also likely in order, as are changes to the front and rear fascia.
The interior was also snapped and features a cleaner design with a larger central display. Other than that, it looks like some buttons have been changed, making us think most of the Focus' updates are limited to the exterior.
