1966 Ford F-100 Pickup

V8, 4-Speed, Ford 9 Inch rear (3.25 gears)

Odometer shows 85,200 miles; actual mileage unknown

For sale is a clean, original, Ford pickup from dry, salt-free Montana. I bought this truck about a year ago and have spent that time fixing little things and using it for occasional times when I needed a pickup, usually on drives to Butte (140 miles round trip and over the Continental Divide) and it has never let me down - I have total confidence in the mechanical condition of this truck. The one time I filled it up to the brim and then again after that trip I got 16 MPG. This is a solid, clean, and very nice pickup. I will list everything I know about it, good and bad.

THE GOOD:

- Starts every time even in cold weather, runs very well

- Solid tranny, clutch, rear end - both gear boxes topped off and no noise

- Good brakes and tires - rears are new Michelins with hardly any wear (see photo), fronts are Dunlops w/ decent tread

- New U-joints, Plugs, Wires/Cap/Rotor, Oil/Filter, Air Filter, Water Pump, Front Shocks

- Starter/Alternator/Regulator/Solenoid/Battery Cables replaced before I bought it

- Full gauges (w/ factory accessory Stewart Warner Amp/Oil gauges)

- Tight front end, tracks straight down the road

- Good heater/defrost, wipers, lights, horn all work

- Always stays cool, never overheats, does 65 mph very comfortably and will go faster if you want - 3.25 gearset is a great all-around ratio

- Bed floor ribs not smashed down - appears to have had a camper on it for most of its life

- Repainted grill, wheels, and hubcaps in original color; body touched up in places with factory Sahara Beige before a two-stage compounding and wax job

- Original seat has a new aftermarket cover; also new floormats

THE REST:

- Cracked windshield, broken middle section of headliner, cigar lighter/gas gauge/dome light/e-brake cable don’t work

- Driver’s floor was rusted from water collecting under mat but I put in a repro patch panel (all sealed up and solid now)

- Carb needs rebuilt/accelerator pump weak, but still perfectly drivable

- RF wheel cylinder has a slow leak

- Two-piece driveshaft vibrates at 35mph but vibration goes away below and above that - I replaced all 4 U-joints so it must be the center bearing (even swapped in a driveshaft out of another truck to verify that it wasn’t the tranny or rear end, and it’s not); I’ve never replaced one of those so I’m leaving that to the new owner

- Leaks oil but I only today tightened up the loose gasket bolts on the valve covers and oil pan and it has already helped immensely; also added some oil leak stopper

- Bed is surface-rusted from a load of dirt the previous owner left in the bed for a few months, and front top rail is dented (could be pulled out)

- Minor rust in a few insolated places (see 2 photos for examples) but very minimal - NOT A RUST BUCKET - I want to make this very clear, rust is only in a few places such as where mud would gather and otherwise the body is very solid

- Various scratches, paint defects, and minor dents on body

- Driver's seat foam was ripped so I filled it before putting the new cover on - very comfortable

OVERALL

This is a very nice truck and gets lots of attention. It runs well and is very clean and dependable. It needs nothing immediately - you can drive it as-is and do more to it over time if you want. I think that if you put in a new windshield and a bedliner, it would really take it to the next level. This would also be a great restoration candidate.

I have done my best to describe the truck honestly and in detail including the negative points, but still, I encourage and welcome all prospective bidders to see/drive the truck in person. This vehicle is sold “as-is” and “where-is” and absolutely no warrantees are made concerning it or its condition, either expressed or implied. Truck is located in Belgrade, Montana and buyer is responsible for all shipping arrangements and costs. I will be happy to assist in loading the truck if buyer sends a carrier. Clear title, ready to go. Cash in person talks. I will be happy to answer any questions. Check out my 100% Positive Feedback and bid with confidence - good luck!

Barrett-Jackson rundown: 2024 GMC Hummer EV, Colin Powell's Corvette and more

Mon, Jan 30 2023

The echoes of the last hammer fall at Barrett-Jackson's Scottsdale Auction have disappeared into the Arizona night, as have the record crowds and the traffic jams. During the Super Saturday charity auctions, three main attractions drove onto the dais for bidding: Late U.S. Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff and Secretary of State General Colin Powell’s 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, the hammer price benefitting AmericaÂ’s Promise Alliance, the nonprofit Powell founded to support kids; The first production 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 with VIN 001, proceeds going to Tread Lightly!, which educates people on how to enjoy the outdoors in a motorized vehicle and simultaneously protect the outdoors; And the first production 2024 Ford Mustang GT Fastback VIN 001, its hammer price benefiting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Before the Saturday showcase, charity auctions on Friday took Barrett-Jackson past a huge milestone. When an 800-horsepower 2021 Shelby Super Snake Count's Kustoms Edition hammered for $350,000 to support the veteran's charity Camp Freedom, the auction house officially surpassed the $150 million mark for charity auction proceeds. Piling on before the clock struck midnight, a 2023 Ford F-150 Lightning 4x4 Super Crew sold for $275,000, those funds donated to Fighter Country Foundation. Then came Saturday. Powell's Gunmetal Gray on black Stingray was said to be a daily driver, but with just 15,600 miles on the odometer, Powell — who died in 2021 — apparently had a very short commute. Equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and chrome wheels, it sold for $200,000. The first production 2024 GMC Hummer EV SUV Edition 1 ran the bidding up to $500,000. That's quite a ways down on the $2,500,000 that the bedded 2022 GMC Hummer EV Edition 1 garnered at the charity auction in 2021, and not a bad price all things considered. The owner gets the first one off the line instead of getting lost in the 90,000-order backlog, and the markup goes to a good cause instead of a flipper and eBay fees. The first production 2024 Mustang GT Fastback brought in both less and more than the Hummer EV. The Ford's hammer price came to $490,000. However, two additional philanthropic donations for this lot in the amounts of $50,000 and $25,000 took the final price to $565,000. The big movers on the day were outside the charity sphere, four cars breaking the million-dollar mark.

Ford GT40 makes historic return to racing at Goodwood

Wed, 23 Oct 2013

Is there a more iconic, American racecar than the Ford GT40? That may be a discussion for another day (although by all means, tell us how wrong we are in Comments), but this video of heaps of GT40s running in the Goodwood Revival races certainly has us thinking that Ford's Ferrari-killer might just be the best racer the Land Of The Free and Home Of The Brave has ever come up with.
That's completely ignoring the fact that the GT40 was largely developed by Brits using American money, but that's besides the point (there was also a rather brash Texan, who had a big role later in development). The resulting vehicle was dominant, besting the cars of Il Commendatore from 1966 to 1969, although it should be noted that Ford's GT40 was unable to beat Ferrari in its first two Le Mans outings in 1964 and 1965.
Those four years of dominance, which started with Ford sweeping the podium, were enough to establish the GT40's legend. And now, here we are almost 50 years later, celebrating the mid-engined monsters at Goodwood, in their first ever one-make race. Take a look below for the entire video.

Obama to herald auto industry turnaround from idled Ford plant

Tue, Jan 6 2015

President Barack Obama will tout the recent successes of the American auto industry in a speech on Wednesday. This would be a fine and dandy plan aside from two small hitches. First, the president is visiting Ford's Wayne, MI factory, which is rather strange considering the government bailed out the company's local rivals, Chrysler and General Motors. Even more worrying, considering the topic of the speech, is that the Wayne facility has been idled due to a lack of demand. According to The Detroit News, the White House said the speech will focus on "the workers in the resurgent American automotive and manufacturing sector now that the auto rescue has been completed and the decision to save the auto industry and the over one million jobs that went with it." Wayne Assembly employs some 5,100 Michiganders when its lines are up and running, but as gas prices have plunged below $2 per gallon in some areas over the past month, its fuel-efficient products – the Focus and C-Max – have seen their sales plummet, as well. In December, the Focus' year-over-year sales were down 4.4 percent, while the C-Max dipped 3.3 percent, Ford told The News. Lagging sales for the two compacts aren't a new thing, though. Focus sales in all of 2014 were down 6.4 percent, while the C-Max struggled with a 21.6-percent drop last year. According to The News, Ford made the decision to idle the factory before being approached by the White House. Considering that, we wonder what the team at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue was thinking when it selected the Ford facility, and what impact the location will have on the president's message.
