1960 Ford F100 4x4 Custom Cab Big Back Window, 292 V8 4-speed Project, Very Rare on 2040-cars
Vancouver, Washington, United States
1960 Ford
F100 4x4 Custom Cab, 292, 4-spd, Big Back Window complete truck, project, very rare. Was last registered and running in 2006. Former Department of Defense truck with low original miles. You are
bidding on an extremely rare 1960 Ford F100 factory 4x4 truck. I owed a 1958
F-100 NAPCO conversion, and this is exactly the same but the first year
offered from the Ford factory as an option. According
to Ford’s production numbers, only 4,334 4x4 fleetside trucks were produced in
1960; it’s the truck equivalent of a 1967 Shelby GT-500 in regards to
rarity. Combine this with the big back
window and the Custom Cab option, and it’s even more rare. I would say this is the Holy Grail among Ford
4x4 enthusiasts. Most Ford
enthusiasts say that NAPCO was still building these early models; I can’t say
for sure but can say it’s exactly the same component-wise. The
original paint color seems to be Aquamarine, a turquoise green. It is
now poorly painted in yellow. The body
is amazingly solid and not rusted out; minor rust bubble areas that would be
easy fixes. This particular
truck has just over 36,000 original miles (formerly a Department of Defense vehicle),
retains its' original 292 cubic inch V-8 engine, and four-speed manual
transmission with compound low. The 4x4 package utilizes a divorced
Spicer transfer case in proper working order, original 9" ford rear end,
and what appears to be a Dana 44 front axle (removable asymmetrical cover). The truck is complete under the hood less battery, and last registered, running, and driving 2006. I am operating under the assumption that the engine will require a full rebuild at this point due to sitting, so I’m selling it as a non-operable “project” truck. The transfer case shifts smoothly through all positions, as does the 4-speed manual transmission. It still has a good clutch, and the brakes still work. Not much more to say under the hood. Tires are
old but hold air, there doesn't appear to be any bed, floor, or door step rust-thorugh. The bed has a diamond-plate steel panel that covers the entire bed floor; I don't know if this was added or original.
A small amount of rust bubbles in each driver- and passenger fender down low, and perhaps
some beginnings in the cab corners, although they look solid. Overall I'd say
the truck is very dry and mostly rust-free. Window regulators are
complete and in place. The original tail gate is no longer present,
either. Otherwise, what you see is exactly what you get. The
interior is complete and unmolested other than an updated stereo, and a three-gauge
auxiliary package added under the dash. Clear
title in hand. This is a rare one and would be an amazing truck restored. While
every effort is being made to describe the truck accurately, it is in fact a 54-year-old
classic, and therefore being sold as-is, without warranty or guarantee
expressed, written, or implied. Shipping is the full responsibility of
the buyer. I will make myself available for loading. $4,500.00 cash or best close offer. Please be
able to pay in full within 3 days of auction end via Bank of America deposit,
or bank wire transfer. You may

Ford pits The Stig against Gran Turismo 6 in Focus ST Goodwood run
Thu, 03 Jul 2014The Goodwood Festival of Speed is one of the world great automotive gatherings. So, it was the perfect event for Ford to give the refreshed 2015 Focus ST its world debut in front of a loving public. It even surprised us with a new diesel-powered version, as well.
The Blue Oval really put its focus on making the ST a better driver for this refresh. It left its 2.0-liter turbocharged four-cylinder alone to still pump out a respectable 252 horsepower and 270 pound-feet of torque. The changes like a retuned front suspension, electric power steering and improved interior made the hot hatch an even better place to spend time behind the wheel.
To prove that the Focus ST is still as potent as ever, Ford set up a one-on-one race up the Goodwood Hill. But instead of putting the two cars side-by-side, former Stig from Top Gear UK, Ben Collins, piloted the real model up the course, and his rival drove the virtual version in Gran Turismo 6. The two hot hatches set off at the same time to see whether reality could beat the virtual world, and the finish was actually extremely close. Scroll down to watch the video and find out the winner of this battle at Goodwood.
Lexus gets top brand marks from Consumer Reports; Ford, Jeep hit hard
Tue, 25 Feb 2014Consumer Reports has released its 2014 Car Brand Report Cards, with Lexus again reigning at the top and doing so with the same industry-topping score of 79 that it registered in last year's Report Cards. This year, the institute credited its lineup for being "usually quiet, comfortable, and fuel-efficient," noting it's the only brand on the list "to achieve an excellent average overall reliability score." The Car Brand Report Cars list is meant to rank the best all-around vehicles based on CR testing and reliability results tallied by subscribers it surveyed. Each brand included must have sufficient test and reliability data for at least three models, a standard which left out 11 marques including Fiat, Jaguar, Land Rover and Porsche.
This 2014 Brand Report Cars edition is the first of a new format in which sub-brands have been broken out from their parent brands, with Acura using this year to move up the leaderboard into second place with a score of 75 for its "reliable, well-finished and somewhat sporty models." The top three was rounded out by Audi, climbing from eighth to third by scoring a 74 for "well-crafted interiors, nice handling and good gas mileage." Audi scored highest in the road-test portion, its improved reliability aiding its rise. The top nine was completed by Subaru, Toyota, Mazda, Honda, Infiniti and Mercedes-Benz.
Ford and Jeep weighed in at the other end of the rankings, Jeep taking the lowest overall score in the road tests and hampered by "a mix of spotty reliability." Ford was sunk by reliability issues with its MyFord Touch infotainment system which consumers found troublesome enough to negate its cars earning "solid test scores" for being "very nice to drive." Perhaps the rumored switch from Microsoft to Blackberry's QNX for the next generation SYNC will help them out. Cadillac's score also took a hit for infotainment reasons after it was the leading US brand last year, the CUE system in the XTS dragging Cadillac to the bottom of all General Motors brands.
Performance cars overpower the Detroit Auto Show
Tue, Jan 13 2015At precisely the stroke of noon on Monday, the 2016 Acura NSX rolled on stage at the Detroit Auto Show amid plumes of smoke and dancing lights. The sounds of the powerful engine revving soared to the rafters. It was the second coming of Acura's iconic sports car, and the reveal had all of the expected trappings. Afterwards, champagne corks popped and the bubbly flowed. It was noon in Detroit, but for the green-car movement, it seemed like the clock had struck midnight. That's an exaggeration, but performance was the overwhelming theme of North America's most important show. Ford – which has helped lead the way in smaller displacement engines and early adoption of hybrid powertrains – had more than 1,500 horsepower on stage one point after it revealed the GT concept, the new F-150 Raptor and the Shelby Mustang GT350R. The NSX is technically a hybrid (it has three electric motors), but with 550-plus hp, there's no doubt this Acura was bred on the track. The theme continued throughout the show at nearly every stand. Alfa Romeo showed off the 4C Spider, which is the open-air version of a car that purports to be the spiritual successor of the high-performance 33 Stradale from 1967. On Tuesday, Cadillac is scheduled to reveal the 640-hp CTS-V with the V8 transplanted from the Corvette Z06, and the Lexus was expected to roll out its own V8-powered beast, the 467-hp GS F. For enthusiasts – especially enthusiasts with money – these are halcyon days. But make no mistake, all of this power has a purpose. Ford product chief Raj Nair said the Blue Oval uses high performance cars to develop technologies, like aerodynamics and materials, which are then shared across its lineup. "It's another proof point about how serious we are in developing innovation through performance," he said. Ford, which is rolling out at least 12 performance cars by 2020, said the sporty cars attract younger and more influential buyers to its fold, which can help burnish its image beyond adding sales volume. Toyota is taking a similar approach, senior vice president Bob Carter said, noting the Lexus RC coupe draws people into showrooms and gets them excited about the brand, even if they don't end up buying one. "They provide an aspiration and a halo that provides the attention that gets you noticed in a cluttered market," he said.
