SEATTLE ROADSTER SHOW FIRST PLACE MILD CUSTOM TRUCK AND OUTSTANDING CHASSIS TRUCK
FEATURED IN CUSTOM CLASSIC TRUCK MAGAZINE “BUILT FORD TOUGH WITH CHEVY STUFF” This 1956 Ford F-100 mild custom pro-street hot rod started as a rust free California one owner truck. It took five years to customize it at a cost of more than $200K (receipts). The cab, seat, fenders, hood, doors, tail gate, bumpers, frame etc. are all original. It is a drop dead gorgeous show truck that you can enjoy at any car show or as an awesome street machine. You will not be disappointed. Here are the build details: ENGINE AND RELATED: The engine build started with a Chevrolet 400 block type #511 with 4-bolt mains. It was completely re-built at .0040-over with Keith Black dished (22cc) pistons, Seal Power Moly .040 rings, Eagle #5.700 Carrillo style "H-beam" rods, Crane steel billet roller competition cam #12-212-2 & lifters, Edelbrock Performer" 6073 Aluminum heads milled 70cc' s, surfaced, ported, polished & steam holes drilled to match block w 1014 "Felpro" head gaskets, Edelbrock intake manifold (#7101), Holly 750 "Double Pumper”, Edelbrock high performance fuel pump, B&M "144" Supercharger, MSD ignition 8360, Fluid dampener, Edelbrock polished water pump with cast iron impeller, Flywheel flex plate (.20 thick), Milodon low profile Transmission Pan 30900, and "Gold Irridite" 6 qt. oil pan. The block was ground smooth and painted gray to match the frame. The engine is rated at 411 cu. inches producing 545 HP. The engine build was performed by Dudder Machine Shop in Bellevue, WA. The transmission is a race prepped 700 R-4 built at Lake Washington Technical Institute with a 4th gear over-drive and a GM Special Order 2800 RPM torque converter. A transmission oil cooler is mounted under the cab. The rear differential is a Ford 9” with disc brakes that came from a Lincoln. It was completely rebuilt with new bearings and seals ground smooth, powder coated and painted gray to match the frame. The gears are Richmond 4.11 ratio. The wheels are by Centerline 16", 8" wide front & 9" wide rear with Goodrich 255/50 tires. FRAME AND SUSPENSION: The frame is based on the original 1956 Ford F-100 frame with zero rust. The frame rails are boxed with tubular cross members replacing factory cross members. Un-necessary holes are filled, rivets ground out and factory burrs ground smooth. A Camaro Z28 (Gen II) front clip is blended in to the boxed F-100 frame. The power steering box, Ididit tilt column, power disc brakes with Wilwood disc brake adjustable proportioning valve were installed during the frame build. The front suspension is installed using Fat Man A-arms, new Eibach RR coils, and GM high performance shocks. The rear suspension consists of high performance shocks, custom leaf springs, hangers, and perches from Southwest Spring. The frame, front and rear suspension, and steering link components were sandblasted, cleaned, powder coated and painted gray. The frame and suspension modifications were performed by Hot Rod Fabrication (HRF) in Auburn, Washington, one of the top 5 builders in the country. BODY AND PAINT: After completing the frame and suspension work HRF performed a complete mock-up assembly of frame and body parts to check and align all components and body seams. The body was disassembled and various parts sent to Northwest Powder Coating. When these parts are returned, the 2nd re-assembly is commenced. The cab is back on the frame, doors hung and aligned, front end, fenders and bed installed. Fenders tightened, hood alignment and fit checked, cowl seal added and a final inspection to check and align all seams performed. The bed oak is trimmed, fit and counter sunk and fit with bed stainless trim pieces. The individual body pieces are disassembled again by HRF and sent to Byers Custom Restoration in Auburn, WA for prep and paint. Individual parts get rough in filler work and block sanding with 120 grit and 150 grit. Parts are primed and 400 grit wet sanded and DBC-5096-2000 Toreador Red Clearcoat Metallic and Urethane clear are applied. Color wet sanding with 600, 1000 & 1500 grit are completed and polished with a 3M product. The individual body pieces are sent back to HRF and re-assembled on the powder coated frame for a final time. Front fenders, hood, bumper and lights are installed. Truck goes to the glass shop where new rubber, glass (rear window is original and windshield is now new) and polished stainless trim are installed. United Speedometer upgraded the original instrument cluster, changing the speedo to 120 mph from 90 mph and changed the four idiot lights to small gauges. The wiring system, additional gauges, brake lines, gas tank and coolant plumbing are all installed. Engine, torque converter, transmission and exhaust are installed. Suspension, steering, brakes, radiator, A/C, and sound deadening to cab, firewall, roof, back wall and floor is added. A custom fuel tank was installed in the cab behind the seat with a custom fuel door. Power windows are added. An Optima battery is installed under the cab adjacent to the frame for easy access. A Ron Davis custom aluminum radiator and fan shroud, Vintage A/C and heat, power steering and 4-wheel power disc brakes are installed. HRF fabricated custom headers and 3" exhaust system using Flowmaster 3-stage mufflers are added. The exhaust system is coated to prevent rust. Bed boards are sanded, stained (Minwax Vermont Maple) and sprayed with clear resin to fill wood grain, first application. Clear resin is sanded with 150-240 grit and prepared for second application. Boards are then sprayed with urethane clear coat, wet sanded and polished. Upholstery: HRF sends the truck to Jon (Yan) Lind in Eugene, OR for upholstery. The original vinyl bench seat frame with zero rust is cleaned and coated. The seat is recovered in white on white high quality vinyl in rolls and pleats smaller than normal with the appearance of 50's & 60's Tijuana style hand stuffed pleats. The open area around the bottom of the seat is covered with an upholstered skirt or valance that still allows access to the battery shut-off switch and the seat adjustment lever. Two standard white seat belts are installed. A fiberglass headliner covered in the same white on white vinyl is added. White on white visors with brackets painted to match the cab are installed. Door panels have a simple design of pleats that also looks right with the door closed. They have a standard handle to open door and have an integrated arm rest to use to close the door so the handle doesn't get pulled off. The door panel design is extended to kick panels with speakers hidden in them. Red quality carpet to compliment the paint with two mats is installed and a shelf behind the seat over the gas tank is fabricated to mount the fire extinguisher, and carpeted in same red carpet as floor. Red vinyl matching approximately the truck and carpet are used for the shifter boot, tail gate chain covers and the spare tire cover. Spare is the same size as the front tires. A white on white steering wheel to match the seat is added. The original chrome speaker box is mounted in its original location (no speaker but wired in case) in the front of cab and courtesy light is installed in back of cab in the headliner. The sale of the truck includes a nice display sign as shown in photo, a large display plaque commemorating the Seattle Roadster Show First Place Award and Outstanding Chassis Award, a large display plaque commemorating the truck being featured in Custom Classic Trucks magazine, several copies of the magazine, a file binder with every receipt for the $200,000 plus restoration, a 3-ring notebook with a complete history of the truck and restoration photos, and a full car cover.

Ford previews updated Police Interceptor Utility for Chicago debut
Tue, Feb 3 2015With more law enforcement agencies across the United States alone than we'd care to count (or ever encounter), selling police cars means big business for American automakers, with Ford, Chevy and Dodge competing to fill the motorpools of every police department, sheriff's office and government agency in the land. For its part, Ford offers the Taurus-based Police Interceptor sedan and the Explorer-based Police Interceptor Utility, and it's preparing to unveil a revised version of the latter at the upcoming Chicago Auto Show in the same city where it's built. Dearborn hasn't given us much to go on with this teaser, showing just a darkened front shot of the vehicle in question with its emergency lighting all aglow. But it's fairly clear that the Interceptor Utility has been given many of the same updates applied recently to the Explorer on which it's based. That starts with the revised sheet metal, but considering that the Interceptor Utility exclusively packs V6 power, the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four that was one of the biggest updates to the civilian Explorer isn't likely to carry over. Ford does, however, promise that the revised Police Interceptor Utility will be "even better" than the model it replaces" and pack "more high-tech features." Related Video:
May 2016: FCA wins, Ford and GM stumble on weak car volumes
Wed, Jun 1 2016The May 2016 sales numbers are in, and it looks as though FCA is getting some vindication for boldly cancelling two slow-selling car models. Meanwhile, Ford saw overall sales dip and GM's May volume took a big dive versus the same month in 2015. While Marchionne's decision to axe the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart has drawn criticism as being short-sighted, it's working for FCA so far. Although the Dart and 200 aren't out of production yet and no capacity has been shifted to crossover or trucks, May's numbers show that the emphasis on Jeep and Ram models makes sense right now. FCA's US sales rose 1 percent last month compared to May 2015, putting the year-to-date total at 955,186 vehicles, an increase of 6 percent compared to the same period last year. Standouts included the Jeep Renegade, Compass, and Patriot, and the Fiat 500X. Ram pickup sales were down 3 percent. And your fun fact is that Alfa Romeo sales were up precisely 10 percent, for a total of 44 4Cs sold versus 40 in the same month last year. At FoMoCo, the Ford brand took a hit to the tune of 6.4 percent from May 2015 to 2016, registering 226,190 sales last month. Lincoln showed improvement on its modest numbers, going from 9,174 to 9,807, a 6.9 percent increase. Overall, Ford was down 5.9 percent for the month to 235,997; despite the slump, year-to-date total Ford sales are up 4.2 percent to 1,112,939. Strong sellers included Escape, Expedition, F-Series, and Transit - big stuff. Most small and/or efficient models (Fiesta, Focus, Fusion, C-Max) saw sales slides. Fusion sales were also down, likely due to effects of model changeover to the freshened 2017 model. Ford has promised four new crossovers and SUVs by 2020 and if things keep trending this way the company will be able to sell them, but things could change in the next four years. GM saw the worst of it for domestic brands. Retail and fleet sales were down for each of the four divisions, with the May 2016 total dropping 18 percent to 240,450 vehicles. GM's year-to-date sales are down 5.0 percent in 2016 to 1,183,705. Both the Sierra and Silverado were down significantly, and the majority of Chevy, Buick, GMC, and Cadillac nameplates saw sales decreases, with both small cars and larger utilities included. Not even big stuff could help GM this month, it seems. We'll have more on the rest of the industry's May sales as those figures trickle in.
Ford sued over alleged 3.5-liter EcoBoost defects
Thu, 16 May 2013Three Ford owners from Ohio have filed a lawsuit against the automaker over defects that they allege exist within the company's twin-turbocharged 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine. Automotive News reports that the lawsuit claims the engine "contained serious latent design, manufacturing, or assembly defects." Those defects, the suit claims, cause the vehicle to shake, misfire and lose power quickly.
Two of the plaintiffs, a married couple, own a 2010 Ford Taurus SHO, and allege they experienced a loss of power and stalling, while the third, an F-150 owner, claims he lost power while accelerating. In addition to the Taurus SHO and F-150, the 3.5-liter V6 EcoBoost engine is also available in the Ford Flex, Explorer Sport and Lincoln MKT and MKS. Other three- and four-cylinder EcoBoost engines are not included in the suit. There have been no recalls associated with 3.5-liter V6 engine, and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration is currently not investigating the matter.
The plaintiffs, however, claim Ford has known about the problem, citing several technical service bulletins issued to dealers of the F-150 that suggest possible fixes. Ford had no comment for Automotive News, saying that it's yet to review the lawsuit, which was filed last Friday in Columbus, OH.
