Up for auction today is a 1949 F-1 pickup truck that was restored in 2001. This truck was not restored to original condition. It was updated to a 1967 Buick 430 cubic inch engine by Kenny Bell Racing, along with a Mustang 2 front end with disc brakes. The transmission is a 400 GM with a 2800 stall converter and a 9 inch Ford rear axle. The work was done by professionals and I have some receipts. The total cost of the restoration was $20,000 in 2001 value of money.
This truck was driven for 6 years and was put in the barn. We have now removed the truck from the barn and the condition is as follows:
It needs the paint stripped because it is cracked and peeling, I am told the primer has failed.
The tires are cracked and weathered and will need replaced. No, you cannot drive this home with existing tires!! I have not put new tires on it because they may not be the rims that the new buyer wants to use. If you decide to drive it home after putting 15 inch tires on it, it will make it without a problem.
The truck starts, drives forward, drives backward, it stops, has turn signals, no seat belts, no radio, but is just a cool truck.
I have decided not to do the restoration because it may not be what a new owner would want, ie; paint color, size of wheels, width of tires, upholstery, etc.
This truck is a solid base with the hard work done(except for paint). You can make it as you would like it, rat rod, low rider, with satin black and moonies or high gloss two tone paint or old school. It is up to you. The base is there.
The condition of the body is as follows:
There is some rust starting at the bottom of the door pillar where it was previously repaired.
There is some repair around the hood's front edge.
The paint has cracked and peeled from the cab and the bed.
The bed's wood floor has one piece that has deteriorated and needs replaced.
The pictures show the problem areas.
If you need additional pictures, let me know.
Ford motor company only made this body style for 3 years. Then they went to the F-100. You can drive this truck with new tires on it and not do anything. These trucks are getting more rare to find, especially in this condition. The standard verbage here on eBay is, "I have too many projects and this one has got to go" and it is true in my case. Watch for future auctions as I will list other projects that I will never get to .
I will not ship this vehicle. However, I will help load and assist a transporter. Your best bet is to contact Uship.com or a broker and the preferred way is to come and get it. We are located in Charlotte, MI approximately 20 miles South of Lansing, just off Interstate 69.
Payment of $500.00 earnest money deposit from the winning bidder, which is NON-REFUNDABLE, within 24 hours of the close of the auction via Paypal, cash or wire transfer. The balance must be paid by cash, cashiers check or personal check, however, all funds must clear my bank before the title is delivered and the vehicle leaves my property.
I reserve the right to cancel the auction early because I have this truck listed elsewhere and is for sale locally.
Now that all the legal requirements are met, I will add that in my view, this is a nice truck. It is going to take some work to restore to showroom condition, but I am not ashamed to drive it in its present condition. In fact, I got thumbs up driving it from the barn to the shop. People are stopping to look at it every day that it has been outside.
Good luck bidding!!

Ford faces class-action lawsuit for selling vehicles without brake override systems
Fri, 29 Mar 2013A total of 20 Ford customers are suing the automaker in a class-action lawsuit for selling vehicles "vulnerable to unintended acceleration." According to Reuters, the suit names 30 models built between 2002 and 2010 with electronic throttle control systems but without a brake override system. Those include the 2004-2012 F-Series pickups and the 2005-2009 Lincoln Town Car. Adam Levitt, a partner with the law firm of Grant & Eisenhofer says the plaintiffs in the case want "to be compensated for their economic losses by having overpaid for cars that contained defects." Levitt contends that the plaintiffs would not have bought their vehicles or paid less for them had they known there was no brake override system in place.
Ford began installing brake override systems in its vehicles beginning in 2010. In response to the lawsuit, Ford has pointed to research by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that indicated that unintended acceleration is mostly caused by driver error, saying in a statement that, "NHTSA's work is far more scientific and trustworthy than work done by personal injury lawyers and their paid experts."
Belville et al v. Ford Motor Co. will be heard in US District Court in the Southern District of West Virginia.
Ford and BraunAbility team up for wheelchair-accessible Explorer
Fri, Jul 24 2015BraunAbility, a creator of wheelchair-accessible vehicles that are usually based on minivans, has teamed up with Ford to create the MXV, a vehicle the company hails as the first of its kind. In addition to the obvious exterior modifications that include sliding doors, this Explorer-based mobility vehicle has removable driver and passenger seats and a powered ramp that nestles into the vehicle's floor. Modifications to the regular Explorer platform will allow wheelchair users to operate the MXV from the driver's position with the normal seat removed, ride along as a front passenger, or enjoy 56 inches of cabin height in the middle row, which is large enough to accommodate most power wheelchairs. Best we can tell, there are no changes to the Explorer's powertrain, which means a 3.5-liter V6 engine with 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque will provide motivation, not to mention 5,000-pounds worth of towing capacity. Fuel economy from the MXV matches that of the Explorer, with 17 city, 24 highway, and 20 combined. The twin-turbo EcoBoost V6 isn't available. Unfortunately, all-wheel drive also isn't available from BraunAbility due to the lowered floor necessary to make the vehicle large enough to work as a proper mobility vehicle. Even so, the Explorer looks like a pretty nice platform with which to build such a wheelchair-accessible vehicle, with good looks, good driving manners, and the kind of rugged looks you can't find in a minivan. Expect to see the MXV at BraunAbility dealers this fall, but don't expect to be first in line. Vehicle No. 1 has been promised to wounded veteran Mike Delancey, a United States Marine paralyzed by a sniper's bullet while serving in Iraq in 2006. Take a look at the images above, and feel free to peruse the press release for all the details below.
