THIS IS A REPO! BUY IT KNOWING THAT! IT IS PRICED TO SELL, IT IS NOT PERFECT, BUT FOR THIS PRICE, YOU CANNOT COMPLAIN! IT NEEDS CLEANING UP AND MAY NEED SOME MINOR WORK, BUT IT RUNS AND DRIVES GREAT AND HAS GOOD TIRES ON IT, DRIVE IT HOME!
NICE 2WD EXPLORER SPORT SEEMS TO BE A PRETTY SOLID VEHICLE, ENGINE RUNS GREAT, TRANSMISSION SHIFTS AS IT SHOULD. AC WORKS BUT BLOWS HOT, MAY NEED FREON. CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON, DON'T KNOW WHY, BUT LIKE I SAID IT RUNS GREAT. TIRES HAVE PLENTY OF LIFE IN THEM. THE CRUISE CONTROL WORKS, BUTTON ON THE STEERING WHEEL FOR THE CRUISE IS WORN OUT, BUT IT DOES WORK. POWER WINDOWS WORK . BASICALLY, IN SUMMARY, THIS VEHICLE SEEMS MECHANICALLY SOUND, BUT WILL NEED SOME TLC TO GET IT 100%, BUT FOR THE PRICE, IT IS A LOT OF SUV FOR THE $$$$. BODY IS IN GOOD SHAPE, INTERIOR NEEDS A GOOD CLEANING. A DETAIL JOB WOULD DO THIS VEHICLE A LOT OF GOOD. WHEN I GOT IT, IT WAS OUT OF POWER STEERING FLUID, I FILLED IT UP WITH FLUID AND DROVE IT OVER 30 MILES ON ERRANDS AND IT DID GREAT. THAT BEING SAID, IT MAY HAVE A MINOR POWER STEERING LEAK. Experts wonder if aluminum F-150 gives Ford a real advantage
Mon, 17 Mar 2014There's no doubt that Ford is taking a risk in producing the body of its upcoming new F-150 pickup truck in aluminum. What is up for debate, however, is whether aluminum was a wise risk to take in the first place. Wards Auto took the opportunity to poll some experts on the subject of aluminum versus steel in the automotive sector, with somewhat unsurprising results.
Richard Schultz, a project consultant at Ducker Worldwide, which bills itself as "a leading aluminum industry consultant (though they also deal in steels), suggests that the potential drawbacks to aluminum - higher costs, lower supply - aren't really impediments to the auto industry's increased acceptance of the lightweight metal.
Similarly, Randall Scheps, global automotive marketing director for Alcoa, a massive aluminum producer, counters claims that aluminum is less safe for vehicle occupants, suggesting that the use of aluminum can actually increase safety as it could potentially allow for larger vehicles with more crush space than steel.
Ford Escort Concept goes back to basics
Fri, 19 Apr 2013Here's the thing about China: The folks buying cars there have a very different set of standards than shoppers in many other markets around the globe. While we all drool over hot metal with bold designs, and while we appreciate automakers going an extra step to inject even their cheapest offerings with aggressive and interesting cues, that sort of sheetmetal sex appeal doesn't always sell in the People's Republic. Case in point is Jaguar, which may be designing a more traditional-looking version of its XJ for the Chinese market, or more to the point of this story, Ford currently sells the less-exciting, last-generation Focus compact in China right alongside the new one.
So consider this new Shanghai-bound C-segment concept a preview of what's to come for that more traditional, budget-minded, less-sexy market. More proof of this pudding: Ford's even calling this concept the Escort - a nod to the Blue Oval's compact car days of yore, and a name that stirs up thoughts of basic, affordable transportation rather than great driving dynamics or bold design. "Customers in China described seeking a vehicle that is stylish - but not one that is arrogant or pretentious," Ford states. And this new Escort concept previews a possibility of providing exactly that for this rapidly expanding automotive market.
What you're looking at, then, is one of the most simple Ford designs we've seen of late, though it still incorporates all of the automaker's latest DNA. The signature hexagonal grille is front and center, flanked by attractive LED headlamps and chrome-rimmed foglamp housings. The entire car's design focuses on clean, smooth surfaces, with one strong character line flowing from front to back just below the beltline. We will say that the car looks decidedly more premium from the rear view, where narrow, horizontal taillamps with an LED accent give the car added visual width. Bland as it may be, it's a handsome little concept, though fear what would likely happen if all of the conceptual details get dumbed down for a production model.
Chris Harris pits Fiesta ST against Mercedes G63 AMG in 0-60 battle... sort of
Thu, 01 Aug 2013Vehicle performance tests are serious business, with reputations made or broken by things like braking distance, top speed, and lateral g-forces. King of the metrics, though, is the 0-60 run, which for unknown reasons has become the benchmark for what truly makes a car a performance machine.
Now, Chris Harris from Drive has turned the whole idea behind the sprint to 60 on its ear. Taking a new Ford Fiesta ST, Harris asks a simple question: would the ST be quicker to 60 on its own, or on a trailer being towed by a Mercedes-Benz G63 AMG?
It's a fair question, really. The Fiesta Harris tested hit 60 in 7.2 seconds on a slightly uphill section of runway. It should be noted that Harris quotes his ST at 182 horsepower, which is about 15 ponies less than what we're getting in the US, so these numbers might not hold up all that well against an American model. The G63 AMG, meanwhile, is a 536-horsepower monster, powered by a twin-turbo V8 that, able to propel the big SUV to 60 mph in just 5.2 seconds without towing a Fiesta.
