2003 Ford Explorer Xlt 4x4 V6 Police And Security Vehicle on 2040-cars

This is my 2003 Ford Explorer XLT 4x4. It has 186,XXX miles, as it's still my daily driver. It's been in my family since it was bought new by my Dad in 2003. It has power steering, brakes, windows, door locks, keyless entry, power pedals, tilt wheel, cruise control, 6 disc CD changer, alarm system, power driver's seat, rear air conditioning, factory DVD player, third row seating, roof rack, and it also comes with a Sears Sport SV-20 roof carrier. It will not come with the flashlight or holder you see in the photos.
I've owned this since 2008 and I've maintained it meticulously. I'm a former mechanic (USMC 3521) and it's cosmetically great as well. It's got your typical wear and tear for a vehicle that's 11 years old, but as you can tell by the photos, it's in great condition overall. Recent additions are a new battery, new front shocks/struts, and a complete change of all the fluids in the vehicle. In 2009 I planned to use this vehicle for private security purposes (but I never did), so I added a Sound Off Signal headlight flasher, 4 corner strobe system, and a Federal Signal siren and speaker. The system is currently disabled and there are no colored lights installed on the vehicle. This equipment will remain on the vehicle unless otherwise specified. Please email with questions. Thanks! |

Ford files patent for 11-speed transmission
Sat, Apr 11 2015The automatic transmission seemed limited to three or four gears for decades, and then the automotive world slowly started to see more ratios becoming available. Today, seven-, eight- or nine-speed gearboxes have become rather common. Ford even has an automatic with 10 gears on the way for the future F-150 Raptor. The Blue Oval might not be done yet, though, because the company also now has a patent on an 11-speed box. The filing, which was discovered by AutoGuide, says this idea "produces eleven forward speed ratios and one reverse speed ratio by selective engagement of three shift elements in various combinations," and the company outlines three different ways of making this possible. The advantage of adding one more ratio is that the gearbox should be able to keep the revs in the ideal portion of the engine's torque curve even longer. Obviously, automakers patent ideas constantly, and applying for one is no guarantee that the tech ever arrives on the market. Conversely, these documents provide a tiny glimpse at one of the brand's focuses of development. If you're mechanically minded or just curious, you can read the entire application here for the technical nitty-gritty.
Ford says C-Max mpg reduction has hurt sales
Tue, 22 Apr 2014The Ford C-Max is having a rough time. Sales for the five-door hybrid hatchback were down 39.1 percent in March to 2,295 cars, and sales from January through March were down 42.5 percent to 5,566 units. In an interview with The Detroit News, Ford Americas boss Joe Hinrichs places the blame on lowering the model's fuel economy rating.
"We're definitely seeing consideration on C-Max decline over time. We need to reinvest in the product because it's a great car," said Hinrichs to The Detroit News.
The company was hit with bad publicity over the C-Max when owners in multiple states filed class action lawsuits that alleged the cars weren't able to meet the stated fuel economy. Ford eventually re-rated the model from 47 miles per gallon city, highway and combined to 40 mpg city, 45 mpg highway and 43 mpg combined. To soften the blow of the change, the automaker sent checks to the owners to make up some of the difference. Initially, Ford claimed that demand remained strong for the hybrid. However, the latest sales figures and Hinrichs' statement seem to show the opposite.
Did a US automaker blow the whistle on Hyundai, Kia fuel economy issue?
Mon, 17 Dec 2012In all of the most hotly contested mainstream segments of the motoring universe, the difference of one mile per gallon averaged on a widow sticker can mean the difference between a sale and a walk-off - to say nothing of two or three mpg. So, when Hyundai and Kia were forced to reveal that many of their 40-mpg ratings were actually 38s and 37s, well, it made for big news.
It also, conceivably, made for a competitive disadvantage immediately, when the Korean automakers' products were being shopped versus the guys down the block. And it's that disadvantage that makes a recent story from Automotive News so juicy.
AN is reporting that Margo Oge, former head of the Environmental Protection Agency's Office of Transportation and Air Quality, got a tip in 2010 that Hyundai/Kia were "cheating" to get its impressive fuel economy numbers. The tip, said Oge (who retired from the EPA this past September), came from a senior vice president from a domestic automaker. The source was credible enough for Oge to launch an audit of the Hyundai figures, which ultimately lead to the debacle that we reported on a few months ago, and that the Korean company has been trying to bounce back from ever since.
