The 2007 Ford Expedition uses the new stiffer frame from the highly acclaimed F-Series pickup. The hefty structure has allowed the Ford engineers to tune the four-wheel independent suspension for an exceptionally smooth ride that helps to make the time spent in the luxurious cabin extremely pleasant. Two wheelbases are available: the 119-inch Expedition and the 131-inch Expedition EL, which has 24 cubic feet of additional cargo space. Both versions can be ordered with either rear or four-wheel drive in XLT, Eddie Bauer, or Limited trim. All Expeditions, regardless of trim or wheelbase, continue to be equipped with a 300-horsepower5.4L V8 engine, though a six-speed automatic transmission is now standard instead of a four-speed. The two additional gears help this large and extra-large SUV accelerate with more vigor, and also improve fuel economy.Standard equipment on the XLT includes power mirrors, fog lamps, aluminum wheels, anti-lock brakes, roll stability control, speed-sensitive windshield wipers, autolamp feature, a power driver's seat, power windows and locks, a CD player, air bags all around, and air conditioning. The Eddie Bauer adds on/off road tires, a number of exterior cues, heated mirrors, and a keyless entry keypad. Inside, leather seats, dual-zone automatic climate control, a six-disc CD changer, a power folding third row of seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and an electrochromic rearview mirror are added. The top-of-the-line Limited trim adds chrome accents, heated and cooled front seats, and larger wheels, among other items.Ford allows those who desire to go all out. Load leveling air suspension, satellite radio, power pedals with memory, a reverse sensing system, a moonroof, a navigation system, a rear seat entertainment system, and a 9,200-pound tow package are all optional. In many SUVs the third row of seats is suitable only for small children, but the Expedition's optional third row provides room for passengers taller than six feet. Standard bench seats or optional captain's chairs in the second row (and vice versa for the front) mean any Expedition can be configured to seat anywhere from five to eight people.

BMW V8-powered Ford Model A is the definition of Hot Rod
Thu, 20 Jun 2013Today, hotrodding has a pretty staid definition. Take one classic American car, add one classic American V8, sprinkle with tire smoke and you pretty much have every hot rod to roll out of a shop in the last 40 years. Mike Borroughs knows it wasn't always this way. Once upon a time, getting your bucket to go faster meant grabbing whatever parts were lazing about the yard, bolting them together with a bit of ingenuity and laughing your way down the quarter mile. It's in that spirit that Burroughs built his 1928 Ford Model A.
Rather than turn to the tired flathead or the common Chevrolet small block, Burroughs plucked a 4.0-liter V8 from a 1995 BMW 7 Series. With 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, the engine has no trouble shuffling the old A around town. He had to build a custom chassis to get everything to cooperate, but the result is a 1,500-pound heathen that looks built to harass dry lake beds. You can check it out in the video below. Be warned, the soundtrack by Hanni el Khatib may not be safe for work - awesomeness of this caliber rarely is.
Ford vandalizes the SEMA Show floor with 2014 Transit Connect
Tue, 05 Nov 2013The Ford booth here at SEMA is practically a 1970s throwback with all these customized vans sitting front and center. And we're completely fine with that. Take the black and yellow (black and yellow, black and yellow) 2014 Transit Connect from Mobsteel above. It's got a great stance, sits on steel wheels and has a pretty cool paint job and graphics package to boot.
Of course, that's not the only van you can see at the Ford booth. In fact, there are 10 Transit Connect vans on display from Ford here at SEMA, and you can see them all in our live gallery of high-res images above. Then, if you want to know more about each specific model, feel free to scroll down to read all about these vans in the official press release from Ford.
Toyota again claims Corolla outsold Focus worldwide
Wed, 10 Apr 2013Toyota isn't convinced the Ford Focus was the best-selling nameplate globally last year. Bloomberg reports that for the second time in seven months, both Toyota and Ford are laying claim to the title. Ford cites R.L. Polk & Co. data that says the automaker moved some 1.02 million Focus models in 2012 compared to just 872,774 Toyota Corolla units. But Toyota says the actual figure is closer to 1.16 million Corolla models.
Last year, Ford said it took the sales crown through the fist half of 2012 based on information from IHS Automotive, but Toyota pointed out those numbers left out models like the Corolla-based Matrix and Auris, as well as the Corolla Fielder and Scion xB-based Corolla Rumion. Whether or not Toyota's belief that all these cars should be counted in the Corolla bucket is accurate or not is seemingly up for debate... as is the question of why it matters so much to both parties.
This time around, Ford is holding the line that the Focus is the "best-selling nameplate," with Erich Merkle, a US sales analyst with Ford saying the company's figure is, "a pure number that is verified by a third party." Toyota, meanwhile, has requested clarification from Polk.
