Inside the 2016 Ford Focus RS at the New York Auto Show
Fri, Apr 3 2015The Ford Focus RS made its US debut Wednesday at the New York Auto Show, offering Americans their first chance to experience the hot hatch live and in the flesh. Naturally, we wanted to know more, especially about what the Focus RS will mean to US buyers. We caught up with John Wicks with Ford Performance program management and Omar Odeh, a Focus product marketing manager, on the show floor of the Javits Center in New York, where they explained the ins- and outs of all-things Focus RS. The car was first revealed in Germany in February, and then traveled to the the Geneva Motor Show in March. It will employ a modified version of the 2.3-liter EcoBoost four-cylinder used in the 2015 Mustang tuned to make more than 315 horsepower. It also received upgraded brakes, suspension components and aerodynamic pieces compared with more sedate Focus models. Underscoring its sporting credentials, Ken Block helped Ford engineers during the hatch's development, and the Focus RS showcases a new all-wheel-drive system with torque-vectoring. The New York show debuted two colors that will be worn on the production Focus RS: a light, bright shade called Nitrous Blue and a more sinister hue named Stealth Gray. 2015 Ford Mustang already under recall, but just 53 units
Sun, 19 Oct 2014Ford has issued a small - but significant - recall for one of its spotlight cars: the 2015 Mustang.
The recall affects just 53 cars, with 50 in the United States and three in Canada. Ford said the passenger side safety belt buckle tension sensor may not have been calibrated properly by the supplier. This could lead to "misclassification" of the passenger seat occupant, and could cause the airbag to deploy improperly.
A Ford spokesperson didn't immediately respond to a request for comment. In a statement, the automaker said it is not aware of any accidents or injuries, and dealers will replace the buckle assembly at no cost to customers. The cars affected were built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant in Michigan from Aug. 18 to Oct. 2.
Car companies used to cook up sales with recipe books
Fri, 08 Aug 2014The evolution of automotive marketing has undergone a number of strange phases. Few, though, match the strangeness of the 1930s to 1950s, when automotive marketers turned to cookbooks as a means of promoting their vehicles. Yes, cookbooks. We can't make this stuff up, folks.
This bizarre trend led to General Motors distributing cookbooks under the guise of its then-subsidiary Frigidaire. Ford, meanwhile, offered a compilation of recipes from Ford Credit Employees (shown above). The cookbook-craze wasn't limited to domestic manufacturers, though. As The Detroit News discovered, both Rolls-Royce and Volkswagen got in on the trend, although not until the 1970s.
