I purchased this 2004 Excursion brand new.  I planned to keep it but ten years later my situation has changed and it needs to find a new home.  Here is a list of the items that have been done to both upgrade its abilities and to fix Ford issues mainly with the 6.0L.

Starting with the engine.  Professional rework of the engine to include ARB Head Studs, Liberator External Oil Cooler, upgraded FICM and Bulletproof EGR Cooler.  If you have done any research on the Ford 6.0L engine these modifications are necessary to have confidence that the vehicle can be used for daily driving as well as towing.  Talk to a diesel mechanic, the 6.0L is an excellent engine once these modifications are completed.  These upgrades cost over $5000.

Also added is a AMS Bypass Oil Filtration System.  This system takes a small amount of oil from the top of the oil filter and runs it through a 2 micron AMS Filter.  This system is in operation in parallel with the Ford oil filtration system but has a much more efficient filter.  Ultra clean oil means super long engine life.

AirAid air filtration system.  The better an engine breathes the more power it can develop.

The oil pans on the transmission and the rear differential have been replaced by Mag-Hytec Units.  These oil pans almost double the oil capacity of the reservoirs.  More oil equals lower temperatures.  The differential cover also has a dipstick that also contains a magnet so you can see if there are any problems.

Batteries have been replaced with Odyssey AGM Batteries.  These are the best batteries made today for an automobile.

Firestone Air Bags with an on board air compressor allow for height adjustment when pulling a trailer.  I did not have to use much air pressure but I believe the ride was improved by the addition of the air bags.

New Monroe Shocks on all four corners and front tie rod dampener assembly ~500 miles ago.

New Napa Super Premium rotors and brakes on the front axle ~ 200 miles ago.

I replaced the Ford 4WD front locking hubs with high quality Warn Locking Hubs due to having intermittent operation of the Ford Hubs in winter.  It is not acceptable to me to have a feature unavailable due to the OEM's design being inadequate.  The hubs do have to be engaged manually however the vehicle can be used in the 2 wheel drive mode with the hubs left locked in and there is no problem doing that.

I have installed the following Autometer Gauges to be able to monitor engine, transmission and rear differential parameters.  Engine exhaust temperature, engine turbo boost pressure, engine oil pressure, transmission oil temperature to the cooler and rear differential temperature.  I work as an operator at a power plant and am able to monitor conditions around the plant with installed instrumentation.  Ford did not have the instrumentation that I believe is necessary to monitor your vehicle especially while towing so I added it.

Brand new windshield as of 9/8/2014 thanks to a big rock.

This vehicle is what I would consider barely broken in.  It is ready to go and I doubt you could find a more capable Excursion anywhere.  I have a lot of pride in the work that has been done on this vehicle.

There are a few minor dings and scratches, very minor and they do not take away from the vehicle at all.

If you have any questions or need more information please let me know.

On Sep-14-14 at 10:22:12 PDT, seller added the following information:

Couple more items for the Excursion:

A Superchips Tuner and Code Reader is included with the vehicle.  I used the "economy" mode mainly with the truck and when rolling down the highway was able to get 18 mpg at 65 mph.  Not to bad for a rig of this size.

There is a Tekonsha Trailer Brake Controller that is located between the oil pressure and differential temperature gauges also goes with the truck.

Once again if you need anymore pictures of anything please ask.

All maintenance records, window sticker, and receipts will go with the vehicle if you want them.

There has never been any smoking in the rig.

Ford, Stellantis workers join those at GM in ratifying contract that ended UAW strikes

Mon, Nov 20 2023

DETROIT — The United Auto Workers union overwhelmingly ratified new contracts with Ford and Stellantis, that along with a similar deal with General Motors will raise pay across the industry, force automakers to absorb higher costs and help reshape the auto business as it shifts away from gasoline-fueled vehicles. Workers at Stellantis, the maker of Jeep, Dodge and Ram vehicles, voted 68.8% in favor of the deal. Their approval brought to a close a contentious labor dispute that included name-calling and a series of punishing strikes that imposed high costs on the companies and led to significant gains in pay and benefits for UAW workers. The deal at Stellantis passed by a roughly 10,000 vote margin, with ballot counts ending Saturday afternoon. Workers at Ford voted 69.3% in favor of the pact, which passed with nearly a 15,000-vote margin in balloting that ended early Saturday. Earlier this week, GM workers narrowly approved a similar contract. The agreements, which run through April 2028, will end contentious talks that began last summer and led to six-week-long strikes at all three automakers. Shawn Fain, the pugnacious new UAW leader, had branded the companies enemies of the UAW who were led by overpaid CEOs, declaring the days of union cooperation with the automakers were over. After summerlong negotiations failed to produce a deal, Fain kicked off strikes on Sept. 15 at one assembly plant at each company. The union later extended the strike to parts warehouses and other factories to try to intensify pressure on the automakers until tentative agreements were reached late in October. The new contract agreements were widely seen as a victory for the UAW. The companies agreed to dramatically raise pay for top-scale assembly plant workers, with increases and cost-of-living adjustments that would translate into 33% wage gains. Top assembly plant workers are to receive immediate 11% raises and will earn roughly $42 an hour when the contracts expire in April of 2028. Under the agreements, the automakers also ended many of the multiple tiers of wages they had used to pay different workers. They also agreed in principle to bring new electric-vehicle battery plants into the national union contract. This provision will give the UAW an opportunity to unionize the EV battery plants plants, which will represent a rising share of industry jobs in the years ahead.

2015 Ford F-150 to get up to 26 miles per gallon

Fri, Nov 21 2014

The 2015 Ford F-150 is one of the most important US vehicle debuts in years, be it in the pickup segment or the entire marketplace. While we've already known about the truck's engine lineup, its payload ratings and we've even learned a bit about how it drives, the truck's EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings have remained a mystery. The wait is finally over. Ford has announced numbers that put the latest F-150 as the mileage leader among gasoline-powered, full-size pickups in the US, with its new 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 topping the charts. Starting with the entry-level naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6, the rear-wheel-drive F-150 is rated at 18-miles-per-gallon city, 25-mpg highway and 20-mpg combined. Opting for four-wheel drive drops those numbers slightly to 17/23/19. If fuel economy is your absolute priority, then upgrading to the 2.7-liter EcoBoost V6 is the hot ticket. It improves things further to 19/26/22 in rear-wheel drive trim or 18/23/20 with four-wheel drive. The carryover naturally aspirated 5.0-liter V8 is rated at 15/22/18 as a 4X2 or 15/21/17 as a 4X4. Finally, the flagship 3.5-liter EcoBoost V6 tops the range in available torque and offers buyers 17/24/20 ratings with rear-wheel drive or 17/23/19 with four-wheel drive. "We are delivering with the toughest, smartest and most capable F-150 ever – and now the highest EPA-estimated fuel economy ratings of any full-size gas-powered pickup in America," said Raj Nair, Ford group vice president, Global Product Development, in the company's announcement. Depending on engine and drivetrain configuration, Ford contends that the 2.7-liter EcoBoost's top rating puts fuel economy up between 5 and 29 percent over the current generation, thanks in large part to the truck's lighter aluminum construction. Obviously, these are EPA estimates, and your mileage may vary – ours has. Recently, Autoblog team members have had real difficulty even approximating government mpg estimates on many EcoBoost models, including the new F-150. Scroll down to read Ford's full announcement, including comparisons to rival models.
