WARNING!!! PLEASE READ THIS ENTIRE SUMMARY BEFORE YOU CONSIDER BIDDING ON THIS VEHICLE!!!!!!! I'm selling my 1992 Ford Crown Victoria LX I recently purchased due to it needing major engine and frame work that I have neither the time or money to invest in it and believe it should be parted out! The vehicle does run and drive but sometimes wants to stall out after a warm start and idles roughly, sometimes very roughly when warmed up. There also seems to be a strong smell of gasoline under the hood and under the vehicle plus there is some residual gasoline coming out of the tailpipe when the car is started cold. I've been told it could be bad fuel injectors and/or bad camshafts since the 92 models had issues with loose cam lobes. I have replaced the following items: spark plugs and wires, fuel filter, oil and filter change, MAF sensor, TPS sensor, IAC valve, air filter, and PCV valve, plus the AC was converted to R134A by the previous owner and does blow cold but takes a few minutes. I have stopped driving it due to this and am strongly recommending the vehicle be towed to its new home. Also the frame is severely rusted with a portion of the front frame behind the passenger front wheel rusted almost completely through. I've included pics of the rust underneath, which is extensive and very bad. That's why I am also recommending that the car be parted out instead of fixed because the rust is too extensive and very thick and the engine problems may be cost prohibitive. The air bag light and ABS light are both on due to some faults in their system. I disabled the airbag system (removed the wiring from the clockspring) and unplugged the front crash sensors. I also removed the ABS controller due to it being faulty.  I STRONGLY DO NOT RECOMMEND DRIVING THE VEHICLE DUE TO THE SEVERE PROBLEMS WITH THE FRAME AND MOTOR! The winning bidder is responsible for picking up the vehicle or to have the vehicle shipped to their home. I have a low reserve price set also; message me on ebay if you would like to know the reserve price. Please read this summary BEFORE you bid and if there are any questions please by all means ask!!!

BMW V8-powered Ford Model A is the definition of Hot Rod

Thu, 20 Jun 2013

Today, hotrodding has a pretty staid definition. Take one classic American car, add one classic American V8, sprinkle with tire smoke and you pretty much have every hot rod to roll out of a shop in the last 40 years. Mike Borroughs knows it wasn't always this way. Once upon a time, getting your bucket to go faster meant grabbing whatever parts were lazing about the yard, bolting them together with a bit of ingenuity and laughing your way down the quarter mile. It's in that spirit that Burroughs built his 1928 Ford Model A.
Rather than turn to the tired flathead or the common Chevrolet small block, Burroughs plucked a 4.0-liter V8 from a 1995 BMW 7 Series. With 300 horsepower and 300 pound-feet of torque, the engine has no trouble shuffling the old A around town. He had to build a custom chassis to get everything to cooperate, but the result is a 1,500-pound heathen that looks built to harass dry lake beds. You can check it out in the video below. Be warned, the soundtrack by Hanni el Khatib may not be safe for work - awesomeness of this caliber rarely is.

F-150 just the start of Ford's aluminum plans

Tue, 14 Jan 2014

Not only have we been told that the 2015 Ford F-150 is tougher, more durable and up to 700 pounds lighter than the current truck, Ford COO Mark Fields said it's also "CAFE-positive." That means, for the first time in the history of corporate average fuel economy standards, the F-150 would be a positive contributor on Ford's CAFE balance sheet instead of being a vehicle it needs to counterbalance with frugal offerings.
Fields' comments made at the Detroit Auto Show were among quotes from other Ford execs that confirmed the carmaker will be using aluminum for more of its vehicles. CEO Alan Mulally said it would "proliferate across our lineup," with speculation being that we'll see it applied to crossover and sport utility models first, since they'll benefit the most. Even gaining the massive scale of using aluminum on the world's best selling vehicle for its first effort - on average, the company sells two times as many F-150s in a single day as Land Rover sells of its aluminum Range Rover in a month - Ford will be looking to further spread the cost of its five-year development investment in aluminum technology. And that should mean better handling and fuel economy for those of us who don't need to wear hardhats at the office.

Has the auto industry hit peak hybrid?

Thu, 12 Jun 2014

Hybrids are known for their great fuel economy and low emissions, but it looks like given current market conditions, only about three percent of new car consumers are willing to pay the premium for them. A new study from IHS/Polk finds that the hybrid market share among overall US auto sales are falling, despite more models with the technology on sale than ever before.
The study examined new car registrations in March from 2009 through 2014. In that time, the auto industry grew from 24 to 47 hybrid models available to consumers, but market share for the powertrain remained almost stagnant in that time. As of 2009, hybrids held 2.4 percent of the market; it fell slightly to 2.3 percent in 2010 and grew to 3.3 percent in 2013. However, 2014 showed a drop back to 3 percent. Overall hybrid sales have been growing since 2010, but they just aren't keeping up with the total auto market.
According to IHS/Polk, this isn't what you would expect to see. Usually, each new model in the market brings along with it a boost in sales. The growth in hybrid models 2009 to 2014 should have shown a larger increase in share for the segment.
