Bought this truck about 5 years ago, a complete basket case. Wiring harness was completely, burnt, spliced, hacked, etc., throttle body and intake was completely shot, the dash guages and components were disconnected, no way of telling mileage, water temp, pressures, etc. Bought it to do a frame off restoration with my son, who was 13 at the time. Took a couple of years and about $16,000, but made a nice truck for him to drive to high school. He's graduated now and going off to college, so we are going to sell this truck and get him something smaller and more economical.

We completely disassembled the truck, had the engine and transmission professionally rebuilt, since the engine bay was in such bad shape we stripped all the wiring/electronics/throttle body and went with a new painless wire harness and Holley 600 cfm carbuerator, stripped, pressure washed and re-painted the frame, installed a 6" skyjacker suspension lift, new wheels and tires, new paint, billet grill, KC off-road lights on front brush guard, new carpet and new Auto Meter mechanical guages.

Specifics and Particulars on rebuilds:

Engine 302 C.I.D.:

  • Rebuilt by Knico engines in Moultrie, GA.
  • bored .030" over
  • 351 W cam, everything else stock
  • Edelbrock aluminum dual plane intake manifold
  • Holley 600 cfl 4 bbl carb
  • MSD billet distributor
  • MSD Street Fighter electronic ignition box
  • MSD Blaster II coil
  • Hooker headers w/ 2 1/2" dual exhaust
  • Edelbrock valve covers and air breather

Transmission C6 automatic:

  • Rebuilt to stock spec by local shop Valdosta, GA

Suspension/Tires:

  • Skyjacker 6" suspension lift
  • New re-arched springs
  • New shocks w/boots, dual shocks up front
  • Steering Stabilizer
  • All new hardware/brackets etc.
  • 15" x 10" Eagle alloy wheels
  • 35" x 12.5" Mickey Thompson Baja Claw Radial tires

Fuel System:

  • New fuel tank
  • new pickup pump/sending unit in tank
  • new fuel pump on frame rail with on/off switch in cab
  • new fuel pressure regulator
  • new fuel lines
  • new fuel filter

This truck is a steal for the minimum asking price. There is only 15,000 miles since the rebuild, most parts on this truck are new. There are a few issues that need to be addressed: The trim around the windshield is missing, the A/C is not hooked up, reverse lights do not work, some interior trim pieces are missing, small dent in drivers door, some knicks and scratches here and there, ignition switch on steering column is loose (new summit racing steering column), small items that were set aside when my son started driving and were forgot about. This truck just needs a good cleaning and some TLC. I must apologize for my son, we have been getting alot of rain and we live on a dirt road, that somewhat explains the dirty engine bay and undercarraige. If you have any questions, please feel free to ask. Truck is being sold as is, where is, with no warranties expressed or implied.

White House clears way for NHTSA to mandate vehicle black boxes

Fri, 07 Dec 2012

At present, over 90 percent of all new vehicles sold in the United States today are equipped with event data recorders, more commonly known as black boxes. If the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration gets its way, that already high figure will swell to a full 100 percent in short order.
Such automotive black boxes have been in existence since the 1990s, and all current Ford, General Motors, Mazda and Toyota vehicles are so equipped. NHTSA has been attempting to make these data recorders mandatory for automakers, and according to The Detroit News, the White House Office of Management Budget has just finished reviewing the proposal, clearing the way. Now NHTSA is expected to draft new legislation to make the boxes a requirement.
One problem with current black boxes is that there's no set of standards for automakers to follow when creating what bits of data are recorded, and for how long or in what format it is stored. In other words, one automaker's box is probably not compatible with its competitors.

Ranking full-size pickup trucks by the size of their discounts

Tue, Oct 20 2020

Each and every month, full-size pickup trucks dominate the new-car sales reports in America. It's been that way for years — the Ford F-Series has been America's best-selling vehicle for 38 consecutive years — and it's not going to change any time soon. With that in mind, we've compiled this list of discounts on brand-new full-size pickup trucks using data provided by Truecar, including their average retail prices, average transaction prices and discounts in dollars and percentage off list price. We've also created a visualization of the best deals Americans are scoring on the three best-selling models in America. If you're looking for the absolute biggest discount you can find on a new truck, look no further than your nearest Ram dealership, then scour the lot for a leftover 2019 1500 model. Buyers are averaging nearly 13% off the cost of the 2019 Ram, paying an average transaction cost of $41,667. That's $6,071 off the average retail price, which equals the best truck deal in October. The 2020 edition isn't discounted nearly as far, averaging $2,852 off for an average transaction price of $48,904. The next best deal is on the 2019 Ford F-150; its average transaction price of $43,064 equals $3,843 off its sticker price. The 2020 F-150's $2,810 discount means buyers are paying around $47,300. They should know, though, that a brand-new model is coming for 2021, so we'd expect bigger discounts on remaining 2020 inventory in the coming months. Moving to General Motors, the best deal you'll find is on leftover 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500s, which are selling for an average of $47,043. That's $2,852 off the sticker price. Interestingly, 2020 Silverados are seeing slightly lower transaction prices at $46,009, but with a smaller average discount of $1,693. The 2020 GMC Sierra is mechanically similar to the Chevy, but aimed at buyers who want a bit more luxury. That's reflected in the 2020 Sierra 1500's average transaction price of $54,491, which is $2,131 off its sticker. If pickup trucks aren't your thing, take a look at this list of the best new car deals in America based on the percentage discount off their suggested asking prices here. Ford expands door-latch recall to 156k more vehicles, nearly 550k total

Fri, May 1 2015

Ford is being inundated with recalls as of late. Just days ago it called in over 590,000 cars for a variety of issues. Now, the Blue Oval has announced an expansion of its door latch campaign to cover an additional 156,000 vehicles in North America. Counting the original 389,585 cars, this has brought the total to 545,906. Under this expansion, the same models are affected, but Ford is broadening the coverage dates in some cases. The recall covers the 2011-2014 Fiesta, 2013-2014 Fusion, and 2013-2014 Lincoln MKZ; there are 456,440 units in the US, 50,681 in Canada, and 38,785 in Mexico in need of repair. In these vehicles, a door might not latch because of a broken pawl spring tab. Even if a passenger can successfully close it, the faulty part could unlatch while driving. According to Ford, there are two allegations of doors bounding back and hitting a person. There's also one possible accident from a door opening and striking another vehicle. Dealers will replace all of the latches to fix the problem. Related Video: MAY 1, 2015 | DEARBORN, MICH. FORD EXPANDS DOOR LATCH SAFETY RECALL IN NORTH AMERICA DEARBORN, Mich., May 1, 2015 – Ford Motor Company is expanding a safety recall regarding door latches to include approximately 156,000 more vehicles at the request of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, bringing the total to 545,906 vehicles in North America. The door latch in certain vehicles may experience a broken pawl spring tab, which typically results in a condition where the door will not latch. If a customer is then able to latch the door, there is a potential the door may unlatch while driving, increasing the risk of injury. Ford is aware of a total two allegations of soreness resulting from an unlatched door bouncing back when the customer attempted to close it, and one accident allegation when an unlatched door swung open and struck the adjacent vehicle as the driver was pulling into a parking space. Affected vehicles include certain 2011-14 Fiesta vehicles built at Cuautitlan Assembly Plant, Nov. 3, 2009 to May 31, 2013; certain 2013-14 Fusion vehicles built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant, Feb. 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013; certain 2014 Fusion vehicles built at Flat Rock Assembly Plant, April 12, 2013 to April 26, 2013; and certain 2013-14 Lincoln MKZ vehicles built at Hermosillo Assembly Plant, Feb. 1, 2012 to May 31, 2013. There are 456,440 vehicles in the United States and federalized territories, 50,681 in Canada and 38,785 in Mexico.
