This is my baby. I put years of blood and sweat into building this truck, and it was only built with one purpose, which was to be the nicest bronco on the planet. Whether or not I achieved that goal is subject I guess, but there’s no doubt in my mind that I did.

No expense was spared, and it was purpose built to take on anything you could throw at it, while maintaining driveability and reliability, and being street legal. This truck wasn’t built to sell and turn a profit. It was built for me and I never imagined there would come a day when I would have to sell it, especially so soon after completing it. It only has about 350 miles on it currently.

I have approximately $160,000 into this build and the truck needs nothing except a caring home. The only reason I’m selling is now is that over the course of the last 4 years that

I’ve been building it, I’ve had two kids, and I need something with four doors that’s a little more family friendly.

The list of parts and work that went into this truck is way too long, but here are some of the key features, starting from the ground up.

-37” Toyo Open Country tires on 17” Pro Comp wheels

-4 wheel disk brakes

-Diamond Axle housings with 35 spline Yukon axles (front and rear)

-Stak 4x4 “B-Box” billet aluminum transfer case with e-brake

-Undercarriage rock lighting

-Baja Designs Off-Road racing lights (best lights out there)

-Super Winch 9.5 with 100ft of synthetic rope

-Thick gauge aluminum skid plates front and rear

-Thick gauge steel skid plate over transfer case

-Custom built stainless steel gas tank

-Stainless steel windshield frame

-Doors are from a 66 U-13 bronco and are the only ones with removable posts

-MSD Atomic EFI fuel injection (compatible with NOS or a supercharger if desired)

-Dual fan custom-ordered Ron Davis aluminum radiator

-Ceramic coated custom stainless steel exhaust

This truck is bullet proof and has insane articulation yet drives on the highway perfectly. I can let go of the wheel at 70mph with no problems.

The bottom line is why buy a Jeep for the same price and have a far less capable vehicle that will depreciate the moment you drive it away, when you could buy this truck which VERY capable, and will retain its value?  I’m eating all the depreciation this truck will ever have.

Better yet, you could get on the waiting list to buy an ICON for $160,000, finally get it, and then have someone drive up beside you in this truck and put your ICON to shame in every way possible. Buy this truck and you will not be disappointed.

Not only that, but drive down the road in this beast, and see just how many people you get starring at you with thumbs up and mouths dropping.

I’ve already been told by the owner of Bronco Driver magazine that they want to do a cover storey on this truck, but I just haven’t gotten around to it yet, and I’ll leave it to the new owner.  You can show this truck, drive this truck, or abuse this truck… whatever you like. It’s built to take it all.

My loss is your gain. NO RESERVE!

Project Ugly Horse: Part VI

Solid axle? What solid axle?
I was fully prepared to embark on a seven-day journey down a rabbit hole of broken bolts, internet hearsay and consternation.
This should not have gone this easily. Having a long and checkered history of simple projects punctuated by much wailing and gnashing of knuckles, I was fully prepared to embark on a seven-day journey down a rabbit hole of broken bolts, internet hearsay and consternation when I finally decided to lay hands on the '89 Mustang with the goal of relieving the car of its stock rear axle. Instead, it took less than a full morning's worth of work to carve the old 7.5-inch solid axle from its moorings and mock up something, well, different.

Ford recalls Explorer and Lincoln MKC for fire hazard

Thu, Mar 31 2016

The Basics: Ford will recall 5,536 examples of the 2016 Explorer and 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC. The Explorers have build dates between October 20, 2014, and January 28, 2016, at the Chicago Assembly Plant. The MKCs are from between November 25, 2013, and January 25, 2016, at the Louisville Assembly Plant. In total, there are 3,129 total affected examples of the 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC and 2,407 examples of the 2016 Ford Explorer. Of these, 1,543 are in the US and 3,993 are in Canada. The Problem: The combination of the engine block design and the block heater in these vehicles can cause the part to overheat when plugged in. Injuries/Deaths: None reported, but there are two cases of underhood fires in Canada. If you own one: Ford will begin notifying owners during the week of May 16, company spokesperson John Cangany tells Autoblog. Related Video: Ford issues safety recall for certain 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC and 2016 Ford Explorer vehicles to replace engine block heaters Ford is issuing a safety recall for approximately 5,500 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC and 2016 Ford Explorer vehicles to remove the heaters and replace them with an updated design. The engine block design, coupled with the particular block heater installed in these vehicles, causes the unit to be susceptible to overheating when the vehicle is parked and the block heater is plugged in –increasing the risk of an underhood fire. Ford is aware of two reports of underhood fires in Canada, but is not aware of any accidents or injuries related to this issue. Affected vehicles include certain 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC vehicles built at Louisville Assembly Plant, Nov. 25, 2013 through Jan. 25, 2016 and certain 2016 Ford Explorer vehicles built at Chicago Assembly Plant, Oct. 20, 2014 through Jan. 28, 2016. There are 5,536 vehicles affected by the issue, including 3,129 2015-2016 Lincoln MKC and 2,407 2016 Ford Explorer vehicles, with 1,543 of the affected vehicles in the United States and federalized territories and 3,993 in Canada. Dealers will remove and replace the engine block heater with an updated design and, if needed, replace the cord at no cost to the customer.

FCA close to paying off debt, outperforming Ford in earnings

Fri, Jan 26 2018

FCA boosting output of SUVs, trucks in U.S. Marchionne says the company no longer needs a merger partner FCA expects to pay off all debt this year "There's a very strong likelihood that we will outperform Ford" MILAN/DETROIT — Fiat Chrysler's shift to sell more trucks and SUVs boosted margins yet again in its North American profit center, making Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne confident he can hit most of the final targets of his five-year turnaround plan. FCA has been retooling some U.S. factories to boost output of lucrative sport-utility vehicles and trucks while ending production of some unprofitable sedans. This put the world's seventh-largest carmaker on track to become debt-free by the end of the year, and allowed Marchionne to make good on his promise to close the gap on larger U.S. rivals General Motors (GM) and Ford. "There's a very strong likelihood that we will outperform Ford in terms of operating earnings in 2018," Marchionne told analysts on an earnings call Thursday. "That's something that if I told any of us in the room here that would've been doable five years ago, nobody would have believed it." As the 65-year-old executive prepares to hand over the reins to an internal successor next year, he said the improvements mean the company no longer needed a partner to survive. The carmaker has often been the subject of merger speculation, especially after its unsuccessful 2015 attempt to tie up with GM. "The necessity to find a partner, to try and guarantee our survival, going forward, is put to bed. I mean we're done," Marchionne told analysts on a post-results conference call. North America accounted for 71 percent of earnings last quarter, and profit margins in the region rose to 8 percent from 7.1 percent a year earlier, even as shipments fell 3 percent. Meanwhile Ford's automotive margin for North America slipped to 6.8 percent, down from 8.5 percent a year earlier.FCA trimmed its expectations for 2018 revenues and forecast adjusted operating profit of at least 8.7 billion euros, at the lower end of a previously given range. Analysts said FCA's margin improvement was impressive, and it could be on the cusp of a big boost from its new Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Cherokee models and its Ram 1500 truck. FCA ready to pay off its debt But the Italian-American carmaker expects to cancel all debt during 2018 — possibly by the end of June — and generate around 4 billion euros in net cash by the end of the year.
