1970 Ford Bronco: Amazing survivor, Rust Free, 302 V8, Factory build sheet (the original) and a great story.

I am a Ford dealer that restores Broncos and Land Cruisers—I’m constantly on the hunt for either an all original restoration project or a resto-mod project. This Bronco is neither—I purchased it from a gentleman in Jacksonville, Fl., thinking it couldn’t be as nice as it looked in the pictures and would be a good project for me—I was wrong. He purchased it from the grandson of the original owner. I would love to know the full story of the original owner and how he came to own and preserve this 1970 Bronco. I have yet to be able to make contact with the grandson. But this is what I do know. The miles, at 33,648 are original, and that fact is obvious. There is no rust other than minor (very minor) surface rust on under-body components. This is the original color and much of the paint is original paint. This Bronco model had the bench seat (seating 3) and a bulkhead behind the seat (with spare tire and wheel attached) with a full bed behind that. I pulled out the spare for the photos. When I purchased the Bronco, the bed, the interior side-walls and rear inner-fenders were covered with a foam-backed carpet, which I removed, revealing a pristine, un-dented bed. The top appears to have never been removed. From what I was told, the owner was either a professional or amateur gemologist. He used the vehicle to engage in his hobby. I was also told this took place in Montana, Wyoming, or thereabouts. The owner knew how to protect his vehicle from rock and water damage—he strategically placed sheets of metal over the inner fenders, against the frame and anywhere else rocks, salt, etc could get to his precious Bronco. IT WORKED. I have left the metal in place so that the next owner can see it, but it is easily removed with a straight screwdriver. All I had to do to get this Bronco in top shape was to replace leaking axle seals, replace the brake shoes and replace the gas tanks (yes, it does have the dual tank option). The engine runs very well with no smoke, hot or cold. It rides and drives like it did when new. The clutch engages exactly the way it is supposed to and the column shifter is silky smooth. The dash, the seat (original vinyl), inside the glove box, the headliner, the floor mat, under the seat, under the hood---all like a time capsule. The only interior modifications are a small hole drilled in the center of the dash and a grab handle installed beside the glove box. There is an OEM trailer hitch installed on the rear bumper and was probably done so when the owner purchased it new (it uses the factory bumper bolt). If you want a Bronco to restore, don’t buy this one. To restore it would be to ruin it. If you want one to drive, enjoy, show in a car show and get thumbs up from every gray-hair you encounter—buy this Bronco. ‘American Auto’ fires on most cylinders

Tue, Dec 14 2021

If you like cars or you enjoyed “Superstore” then “American Auto” is worth your time. NBC previewed the punchy sitcom last night ahead of the series premiere Jan. 4, and it offers a humorous take on the U.S. auto industry as seen through the team at fictional Payne Motors. Overseen by Justin Spitzer, the creator of “Superstore” and a producer on “The Office,” the two episodes that dropped Monday show Payne executives trying to navigate the challenges of the modern auto business.  “Saturday Night Live” alum Ana Gasteyer stars as a pharmaceutical exec turned Payne CEO. The cast also includes Harriet Dyer as stressed-out PR boss, Sadie; Tye White as Jack, a factory worker who gets promoted to the C-suite; and former “Superstore” cast member Jon Barinholtz as the company scion, Wesley, who has no job responsibilities and is employed because of his name. The cast also includes X Mayo, Michael Benjamin Washington and Humphrey Ker as executives. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. Autoblog -- thatÂ’s us -- gets name-checked early in the second episode (2:37 into the show) for "our" critical take on GasteyerÂ’s introduction of the Payne Ponderosa, a car the company scrambled to build in time for its auto show reveal.  GasteyerÂ’s CEO character walks in on a meeting between Sadie and Jack -- their budding romance appears to be part of the story arc -- and blurts out “Autoblog says hasty HastingsÂ’ premature launch,” apparently a reference to a headline that pans the Ponderosa. Looking at the cartoonish wagon-like thing, itÂ’s well-earned criticism. Perhaps the writers know of us -- weÂ’ve been around for nearly 18 years and are read by millions each month -- or thought ‘AutoblogÂ’ sounded like a good name for a car website. Either way. The pilot is centered on the Ponderosa and its troubled development (the first version of the car ran over people). Episode 2 features a Ponderosa Magellan van being used by a serial killer in a police chase. Titled “White Van,” the episode is obviously reminiscent of O.J. SimpsonÂ’s 1994 chase in a white Ford Bronco. ThereÂ’s also some Michigan references, which help to set the scene. One character has a Wayne State degree on the wall and the Magellan flees on Interstate 94, which runs through the state.

FCA close to paying off debt, outperforming Ford in earnings

Fri, Jan 26 2018

FCA boosting output of SUVs, trucks in U.S. Marchionne says the company no longer needs a merger partner FCA expects to pay off all debt this year "There's a very strong likelihood that we will outperform Ford" MILAN/DETROIT — Fiat Chrysler's shift to sell more trucks and SUVs boosted margins yet again in its North American profit center, making Chief Executive Sergio Marchionne confident he can hit most of the final targets of his five-year turnaround plan. FCA has been retooling some U.S. factories to boost output of lucrative sport-utility vehicles and trucks while ending production of some unprofitable sedans. This put the world's seventh-largest carmaker on track to become debt-free by the end of the year, and allowed Marchionne to make good on his promise to close the gap on larger U.S. rivals General Motors (GM) and Ford. "There's a very strong likelihood that we will outperform Ford in terms of operating earnings in 2018," Marchionne told analysts on an earnings call Thursday. "That's something that if I told any of us in the room here that would've been doable five years ago, nobody would have believed it." As the 65-year-old executive prepares to hand over the reins to an internal successor next year, he said the improvements mean the company no longer needed a partner to survive. The carmaker has often been the subject of merger speculation, especially after its unsuccessful 2015 attempt to tie up with GM. "The necessity to find a partner, to try and guarantee our survival, going forward, is put to bed. I mean we're done," Marchionne told analysts on a post-results conference call. North America accounted for 71 percent of earnings last quarter, and profit margins in the region rose to 8 percent from 7.1 percent a year earlier, even as shipments fell 3 percent. Meanwhile Ford's automotive margin for North America slipped to 6.8 percent, down from 8.5 percent a year earlier.FCA trimmed its expectations for 2018 revenues and forecast adjusted operating profit of at least 8.7 billion euros, at the lower end of a previously given range. Analysts said FCA's margin improvement was impressive, and it could be on the cusp of a big boost from its new Jeep Wrangler and Jeep Cherokee models and its Ram 1500 truck. FCA ready to pay off its debt But the Italian-American carmaker expects to cancel all debt during 2018 — possibly by the end of June — and generate around 4 billion euros in net cash by the end of the year.
