Ferrari wants more hybrids to lift volume to 10,000 cars a year

Tue, Nov 8 2016

Ferrari CEO Sergio Marchionne is looking towards hybridization as the way of bumping the Italian automaker's production figures to 10,000 vehicles per year by 2025, reports Automotive News. To do this, Marchionne plans to hybridize every vehicle with a Ferrari badge starting in 2019. As Automotive News points out, Ferrari is dedicated to delivering roughly 8,000 vehicles this year. The automaker has plans in place to raise that figure to 9,000 cars by 2019. Raising its volume numbers to 10,000 vehicles a year, though, would require Ferrari to meet certain fuel economy and emissions requirements, which it currently does not have to do, reports Automotive News. According to Automotive News, in addition to producing more hybrids, Marchionne is also interested in producing Ferraris that appeal to a larger demographic, helping to increase sales. As Automotive News points out, the recent biturbo V8 GTC4Lusso T is an example of this trend, being both more useable and less expensive than its V12 counterpart. Performance will still be a priority. The CEO believes hybrid powertrains are a way to "yield additional performance," reports Automotive News. This isn't the first time Marchionne has spoken about increasing Ferrari's production as the CEO hinted at upping the automaker's output to 10,000 vehicles annually back in 2014. At that time, Marchionne also revealed that Ferrari would come out with a new car every year between 2014 and 2018. More recently, Ferrari announced plans to increase production to approximately 9,000 cars per year by 2019. Related Video:

Ferrari launches upgraded 458 Challenge Evoluzione

Wed, 13 Nov 2013

Want to drive an eight-cylinder, mid-engined Ferrari? Assuming you can get your lucky little hands on one, you can drive a 458 Italia, 458 Spider or new 458 Speciale on the street. But the real action is where the road ends and the racetrack begins. Ferrari's Corse Clienti division offers versions for GT2 and GT3 racing, for Grand-Am (likely to be revised for the new United SportsCar Championship), and, of course, for its own Challenge racing series.
It's the latter version that Ferrari revealed it was upgrading last week, and now it's made its debut at the tail end of the rain-soaked Finali Mondiali event at Mugello. Although Ferrari only released limited details and just the one new photo, the new 458 Challenge Evoluzione upgrades on its predecessor as promised with obvious aerodynamic enhancements.
Those upgrades are "aimed at making the car even more driveable" for the customer racers who take part in the series, and seem to bridge the gap (at least visually) between the previous 458 Challenge and the more extreme racing versions that have to contend with more competition than its own kind. The upgrades are being rolled out as a kit that will be obligatory in the various Challenge series that will kick off around the world next year.

Ferrari building one more LaFerrari Aperta for charity auction

Thu, Aug 24 2017

When Ferrari officially introduced the LaFerrari Aperta roadster, it announced that it would only build 209 of them. It also announced that every single one was already sold. That apparently isn't quite the case, though. RM Sotheby's announced it would be selling a LaFerrari Aperta, and it's a new one, No. 210, that hasn't yet been built. According to the description, this is an additional special edition that will be built to help celebrate Ferrari's 70th anniversary. It will also have a unique paint scheme and will be unveiled during the celebration in Maranello. No details were given as to what the paint scheme would be, but based on the other five specially painted LaFerrari Apertas, it will probably be inspired by one of the company's more famous road or race cars of the past. Also, since this car will be auctioned, it presents a rare opportunity to own one of Ferrari's top-tier sports cars without going through the trouble of becoming one of the company's favored customers. Of course that means this car could be very expensive, too. RM Sotheby's estimates it will go for between ˆ3 million and ˆ4 million, which at current exchange rates is $3.5 million to $4.7 million. On the plus side, the proceeds from the auction will go to an unnamed charity. Related Video:
