Michael Schumacher documentary is in the works

Tue, May 14 2019

A documentary chronicling Formula One legend Michael Schumacher is in the works and will be released Dec. 5 in Europe. The film, "Schumacher," is being made to tell the racing driver's story. Schumacher is widely regarded as the greatest Formula One driver of all time with his seven world championships. He raced from 1991 to 2006, and then again from 2010 to 2012. His early years were spent at Benetton before he joined Ferrari for the majority of his career. The last few seasons were spent with Mercedes-Benz. Unfortunately, just a year after walking away from the sport, he suffered a head injury while skiing. The injury left him in an induced coma, from which he is still recovering. Schumacher has not been seen in public and will reportedly not be seen in this film, but it will feature interviews with his family, including his wife, Corinna. Never-before-seen archival footage will also be featured. However, his current health condition will not be addressed. In nearly six years since the accident, Schumacher's recovery has been handled quietly. Neither family nor friends have made public comments concerning his condition. A trailer is set to be shown in Cannes at the Marche du Film event that begins May 14 and goes until May 23. Schumacher turned 50 years old this year, and this will also be the 25th anniversary of his first World Championship victory with Benetton. It's unclear when and where folks in the U.S. will be able to watch the film, but an American release is expected shortly after Europe — early 2020 is the target for now.

Exotic cars caught on video racing on neighborhood streets in Beverly Hills

Thu, Sep 17 2015

A pair of supercars caught on camera racing around a quiet Beverly Hills neighborhood last week has residents fearing for their safety. The video shows a white Porsche 911 and a yellow Ferrari LaFerrari as they clipped parked cars and blew through stop signs while residents of the upscale community watched in horror. Freelance cameraman Jacob Rogers shot the video of the supercar shenanigans. He later confronted a man outside the house where the Ferrari eventually parked. He asked the man if he cared that he was endangering people's lives. The man became combative and claimed he had diplomatic immunity. "He told me verbatim, 'I could have you killed and get away with it,'" Rogers told NBC Los Angeles. "I told him, 'the press is allowed to be here on the sidewalk on a public street.' He said, '(Expletive) America' and threw a cigarette at me." The Ferrari's plates are from the oil-rich country of Qatar. The race ended with the Ferrari pulling into the driveway of a $45,000-per-month rental home, its engine compartment smoking. Police can be seen arriving in the neighborhood. Los Angeles police are currently investigating the incident. Even though the LaFerrari was still smoking when police arrived they haven't filed charges because no officer witnessed the illegal activities. When police approached the owner of the vehicle he denied doing anything illegal and again claimed diplomatic immunity. Police told NBC they are in contact with the State Department about the man's diplomatic status and the legality of the cars in the neighborhood. Beverly Hills isn't the only swanky zip code plague by hotshot supercar owners. Some of the most expensive homes in London can be found In the Knightsbridge neighborhood - and some of the most expensive cars as well. This summer, the local council of Knightsbridge and nearby Chelsea began exploring a Public Space Protection Order that would fine drivers who rev their engines, drag race on residential streets or blare music, according to Reuters UK. Ferrari recalls 458 Italia because its trunk is a dangerous place to stow kids

Tue, 23 Sep 2014

Ferrari is recalling 3,000 458 Italia and Spider models and, believe it or not, it's not because they may catch fire. Nope, instead, the issue focuses on anyone that's unfortunate enough to become trapped in the Ferrari's perilously small frunk (front-mounted trunk).
Apparently, should someone find themselves trapped in the car's nose, the interior release handle only lets loose one of frunk's latches. That means that while anyone held captive by the V8-powered supercar won't be in danger of suffocating and will still be able to call for help, the cars are still ultimately in violation of federal safety mandates.
According to Uncle Sam, should someone become trapped in a trunk, like a child, they must be able to open the trunk from the inside and escape. That can't happen in the 458.
