1970 dodge challenger convertible

Always a California car with the original blue plates. It was restored over a two year period in 2010/2011. Still maintains the original colors fe5 with white interior and white power top. Originally a 318, 4 speed. Not an rt. It now has a built 426 hemi with period dual carter carbs. Not a crate motor. 18 spline Hemi 4 speed and dana 60 rear end. power brakes with front discs. Power steering. Power top. Shaker hood. 15” wheels 235’s on the front. 245’s on the back. Still has the original jack and space saver in the trunk. Both the front and rear have sway bars and stock shocks.

The body work was done by a custom car body shop in ventura, ca. metal work that was done: lower rear quarters. Cowl. Firewall. New radiator mount for 22” radiator. New front and rear valances. All the metal was taken down to bare metal. New epoxy primer and of course paint. Looks pretty nice all the way around.  A couple little pebble scratches under the fender and the top of the rear fender has a scratch. The underside has no undercoating and is as clean as the top side. Whatever could not be painted was clear coated or powder coated. The top moves up and down nicely but is a little slow coming back up. All the padding is installed correctly and when it is down I have a nice boot that fits snug and tight. the convertible belt is original and is beautiful. as well as all the bright work.

Interior is legendary. White. Black carpet. Rim blow steering wheel. Original am radio. Dash and convertible frame was all powder coated. All assemblies were made with stainless screws wherever possible. Rally dash was rebuilt by redline. Seatbelts are original with the date tags still visible. The doors open and close well. And everything lines up.

I have the original fender tag, the build sheet and I have all the engine specs. if your interested inj the specs let me know and i'll send them to you.

It has about 1000 miles since being restored. I had the car gone over by a mechanic that specializes in these types of cars.

This ride is fast. Shifts great. Runs down the road straight and is a blast to drive. Its not all that loud because when we built it we used the stock exhaust system. In fact I tried to keep everything just the way it would have been if you bought it off the show room floor. none the less it still rumbles nicely. it's a great ride and it gets a lot of looks.

2015 Dodge Viper getting small increase in power

Tue, 29 Jul 2014

The Viper is used to being the most powerful car in the Dodge and SRT stables, but the arrival of the 2015 Dodge Challenger SRT Hellcat means that's no longer the case. The serpentine supercar is, however, reportedly getting a small boost in output for 2015, amounting to all of five horsepower.
The increase was uncovered by Road & Track courtesy of the SAE J1349 certification process to which Detroit's Big Three automakers submit themselves and which reports the Viper's output at 645 hp instead of the 640 it was rated at until now. There are a hundred factors that could have contributed to the relatively mild boost in output (best guess? nothing at all changed...), but we doubt anyone's going to complain about some extra horses under the hood.
The five-horsepower boost brings the Viper that much closer to the 650-hp Chevy Corvette Z06, not to mention the 707-hp Hellcat, but the Viper's impressive power-to-weight ratio ought to mean it'll have little problem keeping up in a straight line - which is just one of the reasons why Chrysler won't shoe-horn the Hellcat into the Viper: as R&T points out, the supercharged engine is too heavy and the blower makes it too tall to fit in the Viper's engine bay.

Kia leads J.D. Power's Vehicle Dependability Study for 2022

Thu, Feb 10 2022

For the first year ever, Kia leads J.D. Power's annual Vehicle Dependability Study with a score of 145 problems per 100 vehicles. Buick (147) and Hyundai (148) round out the top three. The highest premium brand on the list is Genesis, with a score of 148. It's common for so-called "mass market" brands to lead this particular study, according to J.D. Power, as "premium" brands "typically incorporate more technology in their vehicles, which increases the likelihood for problems to occur" and aren't necessarily built to a higher standard that less-expensive brands. The highest-rated single nameplate is the Porsche 911. It's the third time out of the past four years and the second year in a row that Porsche's quintessential sports car has taken top honors. Porsche as a brand sits in seventh place (162) just behind Lexus (159) and ahead of Dodge (166). At the very bottom of the list is Land Rover with a dismal score of 284; the SUV specialist held the same unfortunate distinction on last year's list. Ram (266), Volvo (256), Alfa Romeo (245) and Acura (244) also performed poorly. The overall industry average score sits at 192 — mass market brands average a score of 190 while premium brands sit 14 points lower at 204. While Tesla is unofficially included in some of J.D. Power's results, the agency says the sample size it has access to for this study is too small to include. As has been the case for the past several years, infotainment systems dominate the list of problems reported by owners. Popular (or unpopular, depending on your point of view) complaints include built-in voice recognition (8.3 PP100), Android Auto/Apple CarPlay connectivity (5.4 PP100), built-in Bluetooth system (4.5 PP100), not enough power plugs/USB ports (4.2 PP100), navigation systems difficult to understand/use (3.7 PP100), touchscreen/display screen (3.6 PP100), and navigation system inaccurate/outdated map (3.6 PP100). While problems with the car's infotainment and technology packages are indeed bothersome, it's important to remember that such issues aren't usually leaving owners stranded with an immovable vehicle like a broken transmission or blown engine would. Culling infotainment complaints from the results would reduce the average problem-per-100-vehicle score by a staggering 51.9 points. The vehicles included in this study are from the 2019 model year. That means owners have had three years to get to know their cars and trucks. It's the 33rd year that J.D.

Best and worst car brands of 2022 according to Consumer Reports

Thu, Feb 17 2022

It's that time again, Consumer Reports this morning lifting the curtain on its 2022 Annual Car Brand rankings and its 10 Top Picks in the car, crossover, and truck category. Drumroll, please: This year, Subaru climbs two spots to claim the winner's circle, having come third the last two years. Last year, Mazda climbed three spots from 2020 to take the crown. This year, Mazda slipped to second, BMW taking the last spot on the podium, also a one-spot drop from 2021. Six automakers in the top 10 hailed from Japan, which is one more than last year, and five luxury makers occupied the top 10, which is two more than last year. And South Korean representation didn't crack the top this year, after Hyundai managed tenth last year. The seven makes after BMW are: Honda, Lexus, Audi, Porsche, Mini, Toyota, and Infiniti.  The magazine and testing concern says its Brand Report Card "[reveals] which automakers are producing the most well-performing, safe, and reliable vehicles based on CR’s independent testing and member surveys," and that "Brands that rise to the top tend to have the most consistent performance across their model lineups." The domestics also took steps back among the 32 OEMs ranked on the 2022 card. Chrysler and Buick were the domestic carmakers who made last year's top 10 in eighth and ninth, respectively. This year, Buick dropped to eleventh, Chrysler to thirteenth. Dodge went from fourteenth to sixteenth. CR continues to ding Tesla's yoke steerer, the not-exactly-natural handhold responsible for the electric carmaker going from sixteenth last year to twenty-third this year.
