The 2007 Chrysler PT Pacific Coast Highway Edition is
powered by a fuel-efficient 2.4-liter naturally aspirated engine that produces
150 horsepower (112 kW) and 165 lb.-ft. (220 N•m) of torque coupled with either
a five-speed manual transaxle or a four-speed automatic. With the five-speed
manual, this engine achieves 29 mpg on the highway, which is perfect for long
cruises down the Pacific coast.
The U.S. Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) for the 2007 Chrysler PT Street Cruiser Pacific Coast Highway Edition will be $20,735 for the manual transaxle version and $21,570 for the automatic transaxle model. Both prices include a $640 destination charge. "The Chrysler PT Cruiser gives the car buffs here at the Chrysler Group the opportunity to factory customize a classic," said Larry Lyons, Vice President – Front-wheel-drive Product Team. "In fact, the Pacific Coast Highway Edition is our 12th version of the segment-busting Chrysler PT Cruiser since it was first introduced in 2000." Unique to a PT Awash in a stunning Ocean Blue paint with many bright accents that complement the glistening Pacific Ocean, this limited-edition PT Cruiser model features unique 17-inch platinum-clad 15-spoke wheels with all-season performance tires, speed control, a sport-suspension and standard four-wheel disc anti-lock brakes with traction control. Brightwork accents include a chrome grille, door handles and body-side molding, as well as a bright exhaust tip. A unique "Street Cruiser" badge, complete with unique Ocean Blue accents, is featured on the rear liftgate and complemented by "Pacific Coast Highway" Edition badges. The rear liftgate also features an Ocean Blue spoiler. The 2007 Chrysler PT Cruiser Street Cruiser Pacific Coast Highway Edition's interior also is a breath of fresh air, featuring a two-tone interior of Slate Gray and Pastel Slate Gray. Medium Slate gray Albi II premium cloth seats with Ocean Blue Alias seat inserts match the vehicle's exterior and include a six-way power driver seat and driver manual lumbar adjuster. The Pastel Slate Gray door trim has Medium Slate vinyl bolsters. The instrument panel features a Satin Silver cluster bezel with an Ocean Blue overlay and Satin Silver passenger air bag door. The Pacific Coast Highway Edition also offers a leather-wrapped steering wheel, and many bright interior accents, including Satin Silver steering wheel spokes, cupholder rings, door lock knobs, automatic shifter bezel and shift ball. A bright Chrysler winged logo accents the front door scuff pads. Standard SIRIUS Satellite Radio keeps the driver connected, even if the road takes them out of commercial radio range. The vehicle's standard AM/FM radio with single-disc CD player has MP3 play capability, as well as an audio-input jack that can be used to connect portable MP3 players or other auxiliary audio devices. |

Moon landing anniversary: How Detroit automakers won the space race
Fri, Jul 19 2019America's industrial might — automakers included — determined the outcome of the 20th centuryÂ’s biggest events. The “Arsenal of Democracy” won World War II, and then the Cold War. And our factories flew us to the moon. Apollo was a Cold War program. You can draw a direct line from Nazi V-2 rockets to ICBMs to the Saturn V. The space race was a proxy war — which beats a real war. It was a healthy outlet for technology and testosterone that would otherwise be used for darker purposes. (People protested, and still do, that money for space should go to problems here on Earth, but more likely the military-industrial complex would've just bought more bombs with it.) As long as we and the Soviet Union were launching rockets into space, we were not lobbing them at each other. JFKÂ’s challenge to “go to the moon in this decade and do the other things, not because they are easy, but because they are hard,” put American industry back on a war footing. We were galvanized to beat the Russians, to demonstrate technological dominance. (A lack of similar unifying purpose is why we havenÂ’t been to the moon since, or Mars.) NASA says more than 400,000 Americans, from scientists to seamstresses, toiled on the moon program, working for government or for 20,000 contractors. Antagonism was diverted into something inspirational. The Big Three automakers were some of the biggest companies in the moon program, which might surprise a lot of people today. Note to a new generation who marveled when SpaceX launched a Tesla Roadster out into the solar system: Sure, that was neat, but just know that Detroit beat Elon Musk to space by more than half a century. This high point in human history was brought to you by Ford ItÂ’s hard to imagine in this era of Sony-LG-Samsung, but Ford used to make TVs. And other consumer appliances. Or rather Philco, the radio, TV and transistor pioneer that Ford bought in 1961 — the year Gagarin and Alan Shepard flew in space. Ted Ryan, FordÂ’s archives and heritage brand manager, just wrote a Medium article on the central role Philco-Ford played in manned spaceflight. And nothingÂ’s more central than Mission Control in Houston, the famous console-filled room we all know from TV and movies. What we didn't know was, that was Ford. Ford built that. In 1953, Ryan notes, Philco invented a transistor that was key to the development of (what were then regarded as) high-speed computers, so naturally Philco became a contractor for NASA and the military.

Automakers have been teasing their spots for the big game, dropping them days early, fully-formed onto the Internet and otherwise trying to amp up the multi-million-dollar outlays that they've made for air time on the biggest advertising day of the year. And, we're into it. The lead up to the Super Bowl is almost akin to a mini auto show around these parts; with automakers being amongst the most prolific advertisers on these special Sundays. The crop of ads from 2015 looks as strong as ever, but we thought we'd take a quick look back at some of our favorite spots from the last five years. Chrysler, Imported From Detroit Chrysler, Eminem and a lingering pan shot of "The Fist" – it doesn't get much more Motown than 2011's Imported From Detroit. With the weight of our staffers hailing from in and around The D, it's no wonder that our memories still favor this epic Super Bowl commercial (even though the car it was shilling was crap). Imported really set the tone for later Chrysler ads, too, repeated the formula: celebrity endorsement + dramatic copy + dash of jingoism = pulled car-guy heartstrings. Mercedes-Benz, Soul teaser with Kate Upton One of our favorite Super Bowl commercials (and yours, based on the insane number of views you logged) didn't even technically air during the game. Mercedes-Benz teased its eventual spot Soul with 90-seconds worth of Kate Upton threatening to do her best Joy Harmon impression. (Teaser indeed.) It doesn't win points for cleverness, use of music, acting, or any compelling carness, but it proved that Mercedes' advertisers knew how to make a splash in the Internet Age. And, hey, it's still classier than every GoDaddy commercial. Kia, A Dream Car. For Real Life Like the Mercedes video above, the initial draw here is a pretty lady; in this case the always stunning Adriana Lima. But this Kia commercial really delivers the extra effort we expect while scarfing crabby snacks and homemades, too. First of all, Motley Crue. Second, a cowboy on a bucking rhino. Enjoy yet again.
