This is a beautiful example of a survivor 1962 Chrysler New Yorker. all original 413 V8, push-button shifted transmission, with power steering, power brakes, power seat, power windows, factory option Air conditioning, and more! Car has never been restored or rebuilt. Sellers have owned this car since approximately 1970. Car was always well maintained and garaged. unfortunately, due to declining health, the car had not been used or maintained for the last 6-7 yrs. I have been given the task of getting the car running and driving and selling it for them. They tell me that when the car was still being used EVERYTHING on the car worked, even the air conditioning! Of course, after setting for several years, there were some problems that came up. I will be as open and honest as I can be when describing the car. If there is anything that I miss or if you have any questions feel free to ask. Also, I will send more pics upon request.
I have gone over this car pretty well, it is now running nearly perfectly, no smoke or noises from the engine. The transmission works well, shifts smoothly into all gears. Car rides smooth as glass with no rattles or squeaks. The interior is in amazing condition for a car that is over 50 years old. The rear seat still has the plastic cover on it from the factory, the front seat plastic cover was just removed about 10 years ago. There are no tears and almost no wear signs on anything inside this car. Even the original radio works like new! The body is in great shape, again, considering it is 50+ years old.  It looks like the top side of the car along with the sides of the fenders have been repainted at some point. There are a few small scratches and dings. There is almost no rust on this car. The ONLY rust that the car has, is a small spot on the bottom side of the rocker panels in front of both rear wheels, and a small spot on the bottom of one fender just behind the front wheel (when I say small, I mean aprox. 3in circle). I have been working on old cars and doing rust repair for 20 years, and can honestly say, if there is an easy rust repair, this is it!!! All rust is lower than the chrome trim (not under it), so paint work could be kept below the trim. The brakes will need some attention before the car is 100%. They do work fine, after they get warmed up. Before they are warm they grab badly. I cleaned and inspected the brakes and they look to have had an overhaul recently, so I just cleaned and reassembled them, but they still grab. A new set of shoes should solve the problem. I also replaced all of the rubber brake lines. The tires are coker classics, new in 2004, they looks new, they show absolutely no signs of age or wear at all, only had to put in 5-10psi after they had sat for 6-7 years!

Just to be clear. I have only done what was needed to get the car back to running and mobile. I have driven the car down the road with no problems, but I am not saying that it is perfect and ready for a road trip.

list of what I have done
new battery, starter rebuilt, fuel system cleaned, carburetor rebuilt, fuel filter, oil and filter change, brakes cleaned and rubber hoses replaced, cleaned ignition points

complete list of known problems
brakes grab till warm, dome light only works with rear doors, air conditioning not working, right rear power window not working (closed and wont open), temp and fuel gauges not working.

Junkyard Gem: 1950 Chrysler Windsor Club Coupe

Tue, May 8 2018

In 1950, shoppers in Chrysler showrooms had a choice between the low-end Royal, the midgrade Windsor, and the top-of-the-line New Yorker. This 1950 Windsor coupe managed to outlast nearly all of its contemporaries, finally coming to a halt in a wrecking yard just outside of Chicago. This content is hosted by a third party. To view it, please update your privacy preferences. Manage Settings. I stopped by this yard, Ashley's U-Pick-A-Part in Joliet, while I was working at the 24 Hours of Lemons Chicago race. When it comes to junkyard ambience, this one is nearly impossible to top (though Martin's Salvage in northeastern Colorado comes close), especially given its location: right across the street from the now-closed Joliet prison, best-known for its role in the opening sequence of " The Blues Brothers." Set on the grounds of an ancient, decaying factory, a large part of Ashley's inventory lives indoors in Rust Belt splendor. The star of the Chrysler section, this '50 Windsor has a place of honor and sits separate from your humdrum Avengers and Grand Cherokees. Because this is the Upper Midwest, the floors are more air than metal and big bites out of the rest of the car have been inflicted by the Rust Monster. Note the airbags inside the coil springs. The interior has long since been gutted, probably to live on in other, less rusty early-1950s Chrysler cars. The Windsor— and the body number makes it clear that this car did start life as a Windsor— came with a 251-cubic-inch Chrysler flathead six-cylinder engine. The New Yorker had a straight-eight flathead. V8s weren't available in Chryslers until the advent of the Hemi V8 the following year. This car may have had many engine swaps during its lifetime, but we have no way of knowing the details. Atop the rust and body filler, some lovingly applied stenciled-on flames. Someone felt proud of this car, even at the very end. Chrysler readying Hellcat V8 with Viper-like power

Tue, 21 May 2013

A monstrous supercharged V8 engine could be in store for Chrysler and SRT products, if recent rumors are to be believed. Allpar is reporting that the forced-induction V8 - Chrysler's first, if this goes down - could make its debut this summer.
The story goes that the Hellcat would be based on a 6.2-liter Hemi engine, rather than on the existing 5.7- or 6.4-liter versions of the company's vaunted mill. In any case, the general consensus is that the motor will have gobs of power. Modest estimates call for between 500 to 570 horsepower, with some outliers predicting a figure as high as 600 hp. That figure would put the output would place the Hellcat awfully close to that of the 640-hp V10 in the SRT Viper, too. Allpar contends that a slightly lower powered version would allow Chrysler to keep costs below that of the more powerful Ford Shelby GT500, which might be a sweet spot.
The Hellcat could debut in a number of SRT products. SRT versions of the Charger, Challenger and 300 are all up for grabs, as is the rumored SRT Barracuda.

Total auto recalls already on record pace in 2014

Tue, 08 Apr 2014

If you've noticed that there have been more recalls than usual this year, you may be on to something. According to a report from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the US market is on pace to break a record for recalls. In 2013, 22 million cars were recalled. We're only a third of the way through 2014, though, and we've already halved that figure, with 11 million units recalled. That's wild.
Considering the past few months, it shouldn't be a surprise that General Motors is leading the charge, with six million of the 11 million units recalled coming from one of the General's four brands. Between truck recalls, CUV recalls and the ignition switch recall, 2014 hasn't been a great year for GM.
Other recall leaders include Nissan (one million Sentra and Altima sedans), Honda (900,000 Odyssey minivans), Toyota (over one million units in a few recalls), Volkswagen (150,000 Passat sedans), Chrysler (644,000 Dodge Durango and Jeep Grand Cherokee SUVs) and most recently, Ford (434,000 units, the bulk of which were early Ford Escape CUVs). So while it's been a bad year for GM so far, its competitors aren't doing too well, either.
