Regardless of whether buyers opt for the roomier Chevrolet Suburban and or the somewhat shorter, but more
manageable Tahoe, it comes with a 5.3L V8 engine that makes 355 horsepower and 383 pound-feet of torque. The engine
is teamed to a responsive 6-speed automatic transmission, and fuel economy ratings now weigh in at 16 mpg city, 23
highway with rear-wheel drive or 15/22 mpg with 4-wheel drive, both of which are available throughout the model
line. The engine features variable valve timing and direct injection, which both help provide power over a wider
rev range. Included Active Fuel Management will shut down half of the cylinders to save gas during steady-speed
cruising or coasting. The engine is also capable of running on flex-fuel mixes up to E85 (85 percent ethanol). Yet,
when properly equipped, the Suburban can tow up to 8,500 pounds--made easier to manage thanks to the transmission's
TapShift controls, dedicated Tow/Haul mode, and Auto Grade Braking.Inside, the new Suburban and Tahoe continue to
excel in ride quality, as the previous-generation models had, but their interiors have been upgraded and their
instrument panels get a sharper, more modern and detailed look. Most versions get a new 8-inch touch-screen audio
system that allows access, via a motorized faceplate, to a 'hidden' bin behind--good for stashing cameras or other
small valuables. Meanwhile, Chevy says that the center console compartment is now large enough for a laptop or
iPad.All Tahoe and Suburban models continue with sturdy body-on-frame construction, although the frame has been
strengthened; there's a wider track that aids stability; and additional noise-and-vibration damping measures have
been added to make the cabin especially quiet. At the top LTZ level, it comes with magnetic ride control, which can
'read' the road and constantly adjusting the way that the suspension responds, softening it for bumpy, pitchy
surfaces or firming it up for quick emergency maneuvers. All of these models now include precise, variable-assist
electric power steering, as well as 4-wheel disc brakes with Duralife brake rotors that, GM claims, last twice as
long as ordinary ones. With up to six USB ports, as well as a 110-volt AC outlet in LT and LTZ models, there are
plenty of options for plugging in the whole family's devices. The roomier Suburban is the way to go if for three
rows of seating. The second row can be specified with either a 60/40-split bench seat or with dual bucket seats. A
power-folding arrangement is available. The Suburban provides considerably easier entry to the third row, thanks to
wider door openings.Versions of the Suburban and Tahoe with dual bucket seats in front get a new front-seat center
air bag, which will help protect those in front in certain kinds of side impacts. Both 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe and
Suburban models are offered in three trim levels: LS, LT and LTZ. Base LS models include tri-zone automatic climate
control, power windows, locks and mirrors, a rear-vision camera system, Rear Park Assist sensors, and a remote,
GM's OnStar concierge and convenience system (including six months of the Directions & Connections plan), and an
audio system that includes HD Radio and SiriusXM satellite radio compatibility. Moving up to the LT adds Forward
Collision Alert, leather upholstery, a power liftgate, a heavy-duty locking rear differential, the enhanced MyLink
touch-screen connectivity and entertainment system and the potential to option up to items such as keyless entry
with push-button start, full Front and Rear Park Assist, a sunroof, a navigation system and a rear-seat
entertainment system with dual screens and Blu-Ray compatibility. At the top of the lineup, the LTZ includes most of
those aforementioned items as standard (except for the rear entertainment and power sunroof, which are also
optional. But the LTZ gets loads of other meaningful upgrades, including heated side mirrors, upgraded trims,
bigger wheels and tires, fog lightand more more

How two-state Chevy Spark EV outsold 50-state Volt last month

Mon, May 4 2015

Is it really just about price? Last month, the Chevy Spark EV got a sizable price drop of $1,500 alongside a lowered lease price of $139 a month (down from $199). Those numbers, particularly that cheap lease, had a tremendous impact on how many all-electric Sparks GM sold last month. There were 920 Spark EVs sold in April, and the Spark EV is available in only two states: California and Oregon. Sales will start in Maryland in the third quarter of 2015, but there are no pre-orders taking place there, so all 920 were West Coast sales. To be more precise, there were about 864 Spark EV leases signed last month, since 94 percent of those 920 sales were retail leases. As Annalisa Bluhm from Chevrolet communications told AutoblogGreen, that level was, "simply insane." "In those states which offer Spark EV, you can get a 1LT Spark EV for less than a 1LT Spark, with more features" Bluhm said. "Factor in that you will save approximately $82 per month by abstaining from gas, and it's easy to see why people went crazy for the Spark." Let's put 920 into perspective. For one thing, it's crazy up from the 151 Spark EVs sold in March 2015 and the 97 sold in April 2014. It's also almost as many as GM sold all last year, and way more than two years ago. The General sold 653 Spark EVs in 2013 and 1,146 in 2014. To throw in a comparison with GM's longstanding plug-in champion, the aging Volt, the Spark EV came out ahead in the monthly tally for the first time ever. In April, the Volt sold 905 units. The plug-in hybrid's best-ever sales month was August 2013, when it sold 3,351 units. Counting all models and powertrains, Chevy sold 3,743 Sparks in April. So, does this success mean that Chevy is looking to bring the Spark EV to more markets? Bluhm said that GM is considering other states and is always looking at the business case, but has "nothing to announce yet." GM to make most cars LTE hotspots for 2015

Mon, 25 Feb 2013

General Motors isn't the first automaker to deliver in-car Internet access, but a proposed plan announced today could make the technology more widespread than any of its competitors have offered. By the 2015 model year, most Chevrolet, Buick, Cadillac and GMC products in the US and Canada will offer 4G LTE mobile broadband access. Initially, GM will just be pairing with AT&T to deliver this service, but additional carriers will be revealed in the future.
Current in-car Wi-Fi hot spots are limited to 3G, but GM says that 4G LTE is 10 times faster than 3G service and will allow for full Internet access, including streaming video for entertainment as well as services like real-time traffic updates and navigation driving directions. There is also no need for a paired smartphone with this new system, which should make it easier to use, and GM and AT&T will also be working together to develop new apps for customers.
Buyers can expect to start seeing 4G LTE in their cars starting next year, and GM is already planning to expand the service to other global markets as well. All of the information from GM's announcement is posted in a press release below.

BMW, Hyundai score big in JD Power's first Tech Experience Index

Mon, Oct 10 2016

While automakers are quick to brag about winning a JD Power Initial Quality Study award, the reality, as we've pointed out before, is that these ratings are somewhat misleading, since IQS doesn't necessarily distinguish genuine quality issues. JD Power's new Tech Experience Index aims to solve that problem. The new metric takes the same 90-day approach as IQS but focuses exclusively on technology – collision protection, comfort and convenience, driving assistance, entertainment and connectivity, navigation, and smartphone mirroring. It splits the industry up into just seven segments, based loosely on size, which is why the Chevrolet Camaro is in the same division (mid-size) as Kia Sorento and the Mercedes-Benz GLE-Class is in the same segment as the Hyundai Genesis (mid-size premium). It makes for some screwy bedfellows, to be sure. Still, splitting tech experience away from initial quality should allow customers to make more informed and intelligent decisions when buying new vehicles. In the inaugural study, respondents listed BMW and Hyundai as the big winners, with two segment awards – the 2 Series for small premium and the 4 Series for compact premium, and the Genesis for mid-size premium and Tucson for small segment. The Chevrolet Camaro (midsize), Kia Forte (compact), and Nissan Maxima (large) scored individual wins. Ford also had a surprising hit with the Lincoln MKC, which ranked third in the compact premium segment behind the 4 Series and Lexus IS. This is a coup for the Blue Oval, whose woeful MyFord Touch systems made the brand a victim of the IQS' flaws in the early 2010s. But Ford and other automakers might not want to celebrate just yet. According to JD Power, there's still a lot of room for improvement – navigation systems were the lowest-rated piece of tech in the study. Instead, customers repeatedly saluted collision-avoidance and safety systems, giving the category the best marks of the study and listing blind-spot monitoring and backup cameras as two must-have features – 96 percent of respondents said they wanted those two systems in their next vehicle. But this isn't really a surprise. Implementation of safety systems from brand to brand is similar, and they don't require any input from users, unlike navigation and infotainment systems which are frustratingly deep.
