1968 Chevy Carryall (Suburban) 3/4-ton three-door with barn doors in the back. Inline six (250?) with SM420 four-speed manual. This must have been a city fleet truck when new, as it is factory orange (been repainted once, a little darker than original) with rubber floor mats and no options. No power steering, no power brakes, no A/C--nothing. It runs and drives well, with a decent running engine, good clutch, good brakes, tracks straight, and the trans does not pop out of gear. It's geared low and doesn't like more than 65 mph on the highway; drive it faster and the engine starts to push oil out of the valve cover. It obviously has late-model wheels on it, and the tires are ok. Someone painted the interior brown a long time ago. I put a '72 bench seat in the front (when I got it it had the random bucket seats you can see in the back) and it's blue so it does not match. There's no rear seat at all. Some of the window cranks are missing, and some of the buttons on the outside door handles are hinky. The body is pretty rough, with small to medium dents on every panel. There's rust at the bottom of the rear quarters and a little in the rockers, but I've seen way worse. The wood in the bed is not rotted anywhere. The driver door has been replaced (note it's the only part of the truck with trim above the beltline), but matches surprisingly well. Basically, this thing is a fantastic beater. It would not be worth a huge resto project, but as a rat it's pretty cool. I'd slam it and take it to El Mirage and Bonneville as a push truck if I didn't need to thin the fleet.

Sabine Schmitz to compete in WTCC race at Nurburgring, hopes for rain

The World Touring Car Championship is set to return to the Nurburgring this year after a 30-year absence. Who better, then, to lead the pack than Sabine Schmitz? One of the most skilled drivers around the Norschleife, 45-year-old Schmitz has been known to compete in the VLN series and in the 24-hour race at the Nurburgring (which she's won twice), and regularly drives tourists on hot laps around the Green Hell. Nobody can drive the circuit better than Schmitz when the rain starts to fall, and fall it often does in the German spring, but she'll have a new challenge on her hands when she makes her WTCC debut in a Chevy Cruze for the Munnich Motorsport team for the German round next month. It'll be interesting to see how Sabine does in the race, given that she has no experience with the vehicle she'll be driving, but has immense knowledge of the notoriously difficult track. She'll have the chance to acclimate a little during the WTCC test session at the 'Ring later this month, and hopes to compete in one of the two races – in Morocco or Hungary Â– before tackling her home track in unfamiliar machinery. Callaway debuts its new C7 Stingray at National Corvette Museum

Callaway showed off its first tuned version of the 2014 Corvette Stingray at the National Corvette Museum last week, giving the rampant enthusiasts of America's sports car a look at the roughly 620-horsepower, supercharged rocket.
Unlike the Corvette SC610 we showed you back in January, this Stingray packs a fair bit more oomph. Horsepower is only up ten ponies, but torque has jumped from 556 pound-feet to "at least" 600 pound-feet. Neither horsepower nor torque is official quite yet, although Callaway is expecting to know just what its creation can do once testing and validation is completed later this month.
The 6.2-liter, supercharged V8 now boasts a new, three-element intercooler, which Callaway claims only allowed the inlet air temperature to increase by ten degrees Fahrenheit during dyno runs. Previous designs saw a 35-degree-Fahrenheit jump. The exhaust system has also been fettled with, and now is even less restrictive.

Chevy Bolt wins 2017 Green Car of the Year

We knew that a plug-in vehicle was going to win the 2017 Green Car of the Year award this year, given that all five finalists have a way to charge up. And when Ron Cogan, the editor and publisher of Green Car Journal, announced the winner – the 2017 Chevy Bolt EV Â– he said that the car itself represents one of those times in the auto industry when everything is about to change. Similar to the invention of the starter motor, things are about to get different. For now, though, the fact that the Bolt EV won an award sounds like the same old thing all over again. Just this week, it was named Motor Trends Car of the Year and to the Car And Driver Top 10 list. The other four finalists for Green Car of the Year included the Toyota Prius Prime, the Chrysler Pacifica, the Kia Optima (including hybrid and plug-in hybrid models) and the BMW 330e iPerformance.
