Corvette Z06. Nissan GT-R Nismo. Motor Trend Head 2 Head. 'Nuff said.
Wed, Feb 11 2015Here is a video we've been waiting for, one that will get broadband fiber optic cables glowing like Hooker headers on a dyno. For Episode 62 of Head 2 Head, Motor Trend throws the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 into the bear pit with the latest Nissan GT-R Nismo. What comes out of that is seventeen minutes of don't-look-away video. We're only going to give you the specs. The 3,527-pound Z06 gets on with a supercharged 6.2-liter V8 with 650 horsepower and 600 pound-feet of torque, applied to the wheels via a seven-speed manual transmission. With the Z07 performance package appended it has a front splitter and winglets, and a three-section rear spoiler among its aero aids. The tested model also wore carbon ceramic brakes, which helped push its $89,985 MSRP out to $105,210. The 3,881-pound GT-R Nismo plays the underdog – again – with a 3.8-liter twin-turbo V6 spitting out 600 hp and 481 lb-ft, yoked to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission. The GT-R left its 'performance bargain' days behind years ago, and this top-shelf version starts at $151,585 but has almost everything it can get, so the as-tested price was only a skosh more at $151,880. Joe Flacco wins C7 Corvette along with MVP honors
Mon, 04 Feb 2013As part of a longstanding tradition, the MVP of Super Bowl XLVII, Joe Flacco, quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens, was given a new car directly after the game and trophy celebrations. For 2013, that car is a 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, and it was presented to Flacco by Rick Flick of Banner Chevrolet, a dealership in New Orleans that was wiped out by Hurricane Katrina in 2005 before returning to prominence as the only Chevy dealer in Orleans Parish.
Last year, Super Bowl MVP Eli Manning took home a 2012 Corvette GS Centennial Edition. Manning also won in 2008, when he selected a Cadillac Escalade Hybrid as his reward. In 2011, quarterback Aaron Rodgers accepted the keys to a Camaro convertible.
Though we're most definitely an auto-obsessed group, we did watch the Big Game along with nearly everyone else in America. And we've gotta say, as if winning the Super Bowl and receiving the Tiffany-designed Pete Rozelle Trophy wasn't enough for the multi-millionaire MVP athletes, a brand-new C7 seems like an awfully generous prize. 2016 Chevy Equinox brings its revised face to Chicago
Thu, Feb 12 2015It's vital these days for automakers to keep up with the Jones' when in the crossover market. The segment is just too popular among buyers to let a vehicle waste away, and Chevrolet is giving the 2016 Equinox a slight refresh at the Chicago Auto Show to hopefully keep people interested. In reality, though, the CUV isn't too much different beyond a tweaked face and some interior improvements. The exterior now boasts a revised front fascia with a chrome-accented grille and projector beam headlights, and at the rear there are new taillights. Top -evel models get LED running lights, as well. Inside, the Equinox features a standard seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with a backup cam, and for added safety, the CUV is now available with rear cross traffic and blade zone alert on some trims. Beyond these updates, the powertrains carry over entirely from before with the choice between a 2.4-liter four-cylinder and a 3.6-liter V6. These refreshed 2016 models go on sale this fall.
