Up for auction is my Chevy SSR.  It is titled as a 2005 but production history shows it as a 2006.  Ricochet Silver over Pacific Blue.  They only made 7 of these and they only made them in 2006  -- or so it says at http://www.ssrfanatic.com/forum/f4/rev-2003-06-production-history-8296/

If you're not already a member I'd highly recommend you check out SSRFanatic.com to find out everything you never wanted to know about these hot rods.  This is my daily driver.  Its NOT a show car.  Its a car that is meant to be driven!  It's just getting to that point where all these little things going wrong is just annoying me to the point where I have to move on.  It runs great; like I said I drive it every day.  But over the last few months I've put in a new battery, replaced the front tires, replaced all the steppers in the instrument cluster ( a common problem in SSR's), fixed the broken handle on the passenger door and put in a new ashtray because the stupid latch broke.  The speedo and water temperature gauge work now but the oil pressure gauge is still pegged, and its not the gauge so it must be the sensor.  The pressure is fine.  Its just one more thing that needs to be fixed.  Last summer I put in a new air conditioner compressor and I tried the A/C for the first time after this winter and now it's not working.  It probably just needs a charge.  Then, to top it off, I get ready to list it and the check engine light comes on with P0121 Throttle Position Sensor.  The part is about $60 bucks and it'll cost you at least $200 if you have someone do it for you.  Other than that laundry list of problems its a great ride.  The front tires are new and the rear's will probably be needed by the end of the summer.  I don't understand why the back tires wear out so fast.  Maybe it has something to do with the 396 horse power LS2 power plant in front of that 6 speed manual transmission and posi-lock rear end.  I have way too much fun in this car, which is probably another reason why I should sell it.  Body and paint are excellent except for a couple little scuffs on the drivers front fender and a nice crease that goes thru the gas cap door on the drivers rear fender.  Besides all the standard power everything, it has the Bose Premium Sound System and center console gage cluster.  The bed is carpeted and it has the hard case locking saddle bags as well as the tow package and a removable hitch (which I have never even attached).

I was thinking of turning this into a project truck.  I think it would make a great Baja racer,  Can't you just picture it with long travel A-arms lifted up on top of some big meaty tires and a multi-shock setup?  It's already fun!  How much fun would that be?!

If I haven't' managed to talk you out of it, I set the reserve low because I really need to sell it before I change my mind.  If you're not serious don't bid because that very next bid may be the one that hits the reserve and then she's all yours.  If you win this auction I expect you to be good for the money.  There's a $500 deposit due within 24 hours of the close of this auction and the remainder due when you pick it up.  I will not do anything in regards to shipping.  You must pick it up.  This is an as is sale.

Chevrolet Chaparral 2X Vision Gran Turismo could only work in a video game [w/video]

Thu, Nov 20 2014

There's something wondrous about the Vision Gran Turismo series of concepts that has let companies go wild with completely imaginary concepts for Gran Turismo. For Chevrolet's crack at the idea, it has taken a page out of its performance past with the Chaparral Can-Am racers of the '60s and '70s, with its designers having reinterpreted that period look for the future of motorsports as the Chaparral 2X. In real life, the 2X looks even better than in earlier photos. The design takes inspiration from someone in a flying suit with head down and arms outstretched, an influence you can really see that in the vehicle's shape. The driver lies facedown inside with the instruments projected onto a visor. Unfortunately, the powertrain here is a complete flight of fancy and works purely in the video game world. It imagines a laser propelled by lithium-ion batteries and an air-powered generation to make 900 horsepower. The 2X has a theoretical top speed of 240 miles per hour and hits 60 mph in a lightning-quick 1.5 seconds. Scroll down to see the concept on video with Chevrolet designers describing their inspiration and read the company's full announcement. It's also downloadable in Gran Turismo 6. Chevrolet to Show Chaparral Vision Gran Turismo Concept Boundary-pushing, Chevy-powered race cars changed motorsports design DETROIT – When racers Jim Hall and Hap Sharp founded Chaparral Cars in 1962, few could have guessed how they would shake up the conformities of the racing world – and fundamentally change it. Through pioneering applications of aerodynamics and aerospace technology, and a partnership with Chevrolet Research and Development, Chaparral Cars advanced the science of racing cars. It also triumphed on the track over well-established sports car companies from around the world, using Chevrolet horsepower. It was that spirit of innovation that inspired the Chevrolet Chaparral 2X VGT concept race car developed for the Vision Gran Turismo project, which celebrates the 15th anniversary of PlayStation® racing game Gran Turismo by inviting manufacturers to give fans a glimpse into the future of automotive design. It will debut at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Nov. 19, and gamers will be able race the Chaparral 2X VGT following the release of an online update for Gran Turismo 6 during the holiday season.

Recharge Wrap-up: Chevy Volt's new, improved powertrain; Inabikari wants to build Tesla Model X fighter

Thu, Nov 6 2014

We knew the 2016 Chevrolet Volt's new powertrain would provide more range, but we didn't know how much. According to GM's Executive Director Larry Nitz, it is about 12 percent more, overall. "I can't think of a powertrain we've re-engineered more extensively within a five-year period than this one," he said. The battery, electric drive system and gasoline generator have all been reworked to allow for an overall driving range of up to 425 miles, with electric range speculated to reach 42 miles or more. The new Volt will also benefit from 20 percent quicker low-end acceleration, weight reductions and improvements in NVH. Read more at Hybrid Cars and at the SAE website. Hyundai's FCEV research and development boss, Dr. Sae-Hoon Kim, is optimistic about the future of hydrogen mobility in Japan. With the Tucson Fuel Cell already in production ahead of Toyota's FCV, Hyundai has a foothold in the hydrogen car scene. Kim believes that since the Fukushima disaster, Japan's attitudes toward energy make it friendly to a growing hydrogen economy. He also says that hydrogen won't be limited to Hyundai, with Kia getting all the battery EVs. "Both types are for both companies," Kim says. "For the moment, volumes are small and it is not wise to have Hyundai and Kia competing." Read more at Just Auto. The Latvian/German startup Inabikari is using crowdfunding to build an electric crossover for Europe. The Rev.01 EV hopes to compete with Tesla's upcoming Model X with a range of over 400 miles and a five-second 0-60 time. The group currently is trying to raise initial funds through an Indiegogo campaign, with hopes of more investment in the future and sales beginning in 2017. See the video below, and read more at Hybrid Cars and at the Inabikari website. Fuel economy and emissions regulations could lead to some interesting design changes to automobiles. The World Light Duty Test Procedure, set to replace the New European Driving Cycle in 2017, will push automakers to find new ways to reduce drag on their vehicles. For better aerodynamics, we could see traditional side-view mirrors replaced by cameras that display what they see on screens inside the vehicle. Another likely change will be the introduction of smaller, narrower wheels. Improving the average drag coefficient from 0.32 to 0.20 could reduce CO2 emissions by as much as 20 percent. Toyota tops Kelley Blue Book's Resale Value Awards

Tue, 27 Nov 2012

Kelley Blue Book announced its annual Best Resale Value Award winners, and we weren't too surprised to see the list dominated by Japanese automakers - mainly Toyota and Honda. KBB hands out the awards based on the projected residual value of mostly all 2013 model year vehicles, and Toyota skated home with a number of awards including 10 of the 22 overall categories and having five of its products in the top 10 for models with best resale value. KBB's Best Resale Value Awards were announced in the same week as the ALG Residual Value Awards, and there were many similarities between both lists, especially when it came to Toyota.
To come up with its winners, KBB measures depreciation over the first five years of ownership, and looks for the cars it expects to hold its value the best after this time; on average, the report says the 2013 model year vehicles will lose 61.8 percent of its value in five years. Of the 22 categories, 15 slots were filled by Toyota, Honda and Nissan products, while the Camaro and Porsche (Cayenne and Panamera) each took home a pair of awards. If Toyota has anything to be upset about in this list of cars, it's that categories for Hybrid/Alternative Energy Car and Electric Vehicle went to the Ford Fusion and Chevrolet Volt, respectively.
The overall top 10 models for the best resale value in 2013 are, in alphabetical order:
