La Grange, Illinois, United States
The La Grange Illinois (Cook County) Police Department is offering the following vehicle for sale/auction: 1991 White Chevrolet S10 Pickup Truck (4.3L V-6) with 101,375 miles. The vehicle is a seized/forfeited vehicle and MUST be sold according to Illinois law: it MUST be sold in an auction-style setting such as eBay. There is no Buy-It-Now option. We will NOT accept any trades for this vehicle. The vehicle is being sold AS IS and with no existing warranty. ALL sales are FINAL and NO price adjustment will be given. This vehicle will be sold to the highest bidder after the starting price has been satisfied. There is no reserve on this vehicle. The vehicle (again) has a mileage of 101,375 miles. The vehicle was in inside storage for approximately three (3) years during the forfeiture court process. The vehicle was brought to and parked just outside our police department approximately 3-4 months ago. When driven to the police department, the vehicle started right up (upon jumping it with a battery pack) and the vehicle drove fine with no signs of any mechanical problems. Upon starting the vehicle now (jumping it with a battery pack), the vehicle started, however, stops running after a minute or two. We STRONGLY suggest that the winning bidder tow the vehicle from our lot-we cannot guarantee the vehicle will remain running. The vehicle is 5 speed (manual/stick shift). The vehicle has a coated bed liner measuring approximately 7 feet by 4.5 feet and is in fair to good condition (no major cracks). The vehicle's tires appear to be in fair to good condition. The turn signals, headlights, and interior roof lamp are all in working order. The vehicle has a Delco AM/FM stereo/Cd player. The stereo is in good working order, however, we did not try the CD player. The vehicle does not have A/C, however the fan and heat are in good working order. Notable Minor Damage/Scratches/Dents/Imperfections/Things That Don't Work Or Need Replacement: The vehicle's body has several rust spots: The passenger-side (P/S) running board has rust near the bottom, the driver's-side (D/S) running board has rust near the bottom, the P/S front wheel well has rust, the rear hitch/bumper has significant rust and won't support towing weight, and there are smaller rust spots throughout the outside of the vehicle (see photographs). The outside body also has paint chipping about the vehicle as well as minor scratches throughout. The hood has a small dent. There is minor crash damage to the D/S front quarter/headlight (headlight held in with wire but DOES work). The hood of the vehicle is painted gray and the rest of the vehicle is painted white. The D/S door does not open-there is no damage, but the mechanism will need to be repaired. The front P/S side-marker light is cracked. The two D/S hubcaps (plastic) have very minor cracks/damage. The two P/S hubcaps are off, but lying in the bed of the truck. The vehicle has cloth bucket seating, however, there are two minor tears near the driver's-side. The P/S window crank is loose, but works. There is no roof liner cloth material inside the vehicle. The vehicle will need a new battery and a tune up due to being in storage and not running for the past three years. DISCLAIMER: The vehicle (again) is a seized/forfeited vehicle and MUST be sold according to Illinois law: it MUST be sold in an auction-style setting such as eBay. There is no Buy-It-Now option. We will NOT accept any trades for the vehicle. The vehicle is being sold AS IS and with no existing warranty; neither express nor implied. All sales are FINAL, NO returns will be accepted, and NO price adjustments will be given. BUYER BEWARE: Due to this being a seized/forfeited vehicle, we do not know a great deal about it's condition, it's history, prior damage, prior maintenance, etc. Potential bidders are encouraged to view the vehicle in person prior to the bidding process, as there may be defects or undetected problems we are unaware of. Potential bidders may have an independent inspection completed prior to the bidding process at their own expense. The winning bidder is responsible for the pick up of the vehicle or making arrangements with a private shipping service at their own expense; we will NOT deliver the vehicle. Pick up of the vehicle should be made within seven (7) days of the close of the auction. Should you need additional time for the pick up, please contact us to make arrangements. We have described the vehicle as completely and accurately as possible, however, we will NOT be responsible for undetected problems, incorrect specs, etc. Should you have any questions or would like to view the vehicle in person, please contact me through eBay email, ask a question through the auction site, or telephone me at 708-579-2334 and follow the prompt. I am currently working 7:00am-3:00pm (CST). If I am unavailable at the time of your call, please leave me a voice mail and I will return your call as soon as possible. The winning bidder may pay in full upon pick up of the vehicle with either cash or a certified bank check only, at which time a Bill Of Sale and Clear Title will be provided. We also accept PayPal for payment as well. Good Luck!!!! |

Is your new-car warranty good at the race track?
Mon, Feb 27 2017We've all heard the horror stories. Your buddy knows a girl that was dating a guy whose best friend's brother once broke his brand-new, recently purchased performance car while making runs at a drag strip or laps at a track day, and the manufacturer wouldn't cover the repair under warranty. True story? Urban legend? Complete crap? Yes, no, maybe. One thing's for sure: Automotive warranties have always come with caveats. In 1908, an ad in the Trenton Evening Times clearly stated: "All Ford Cars Guaranteed for One Year." Although it changed over time, by 1925 the Ford New Car Guarantee only covered 90 days on material and 30 days on labor, and it clearly stated that that there was "No guarantee whatever on Fan Belts, Glass, Bulbs, Wiring, Transmission, Bands, Hose Connections, Commutator Shells, Rollers, Spark Plugs or Gaskets." Whether or not Ol' Henry would pay to fix your Model T if you broke it shaving a tenth off your lap time at the local board track seems to be lost to history. We're guessing no. But what about today? Do new-car warranties in 2017 cover cars when they are driven on race tracks? We researched the warranties of 14 auto brands to find out, and the answer is yes, no, maybe, depending on the brand, in some cases the model, and whether or not your car is modified from stock. Acura has been out of the high-performance car game for a number of years, but jumps back into the party in 2017 with its hybrid-powered $173,000 NSX supercar. And Acura's warranty, as well as Honda's, clearly states that it does not cover "the use of the vehicle in competition or racing events." View 33 Photos So we asked Sage Marie, Senior Manager of Public Relations for Honda and Acura. "If the car is stock, the warranty covers it on a track just as it does on the street. No question," he told us. "However, if the car is modified, say with slick tires or other components that would put higher stresses on the vehicle's parts and systems, then we would have to investigate the circumstances further." Marie went on to say the same would be true for any Acura model or Honda vehicle, including the new 2017 Honda Civic Si. This became a common theme. Chevrolet actually started this practice with the fifth-generation Camaro on the high-performance ZL1 and Z/28 models.
GM earnings rise 1% as buyers pay more for popular pickups
Thu, Aug 1 2019DETROIT — General Motors said Thursday that higher prices for popular pickup trucks and SUVs helped overcome slowing global sales and profit rose by 1% in the second quarter. The Detroit automaker said it made $2.42 billion, or $1.66 per share, from April through June. Adjusting for restructuring costs, GM made $1.64 per share, blowing by analyst estimates of $1.44. Quarterly revenue fell 2% to $36.06 billion, but still beat estimates. Analysts polled by FactSet expected $35.97 billion. Global sales fell 6% to 1.94 million vehicles led by declines in North America and Asia Pacific, Middle East and Africa. The company says sales in China were weak, and it expects that to continue through the year. In the United States, customers paid an average of $41,461 for a GM vehicle during the quarter, an increase of 2.2%, as buyers went for loaded-out pickups and SUVs, according to the Edmunds.com auto pricing site. The U.S. is GM's most profitable market. Chief Financial Officer Dhivya Suryadevara said she expects the strong pricing to continue, especially as GM rolls out a diesel pickup and new heavy-duty trucks in the second half of the year. "We think the fundamentals do remain strong, especially in the truck market," she said, adding that strength in the overall economy and aging trucks now on the road should help keep the trend going. Light trucks accounted for 83.1% of GM's sales in the quarter, and pickup truck sales rose 8.5% as GM transitioned to new models of the Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra, according to Edmunds, which provides content to The Associated Press. As usual, GM made most of its money in North America, reporting $3 billion in pretax earnings. International operations including China broke even, while the company spent $300 million on its GM Cruise automated vehicle unit. Its financial arm made $500 million in pretax income. Suryadevara said GM saw $700 million in savings during the quarter from restructuring actions announced late last year that included cutting about 8,000 white-collar workers through layoffs, buyouts and early retirements. The company also announced plans to close five North American factories, shedding another 6,000 jobs. About 3,000 factory workers in the U.S. whose jobs were eliminated at four plants will be placed at other factories, but they could have to relocate. GM expects the restructuring to generate $2 billion to $2.5 billion in annual cost savings by the end of this year.
New recall issued in 2019 Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra brake software saga
Tue, Feb 11 2020General Motors (GM) has issued a new recall for select 2019 Chevy Silverado 1500 and GMC Sierra 1500 pickup trucks that aims to resolve a faulty fix for a previous recall. According to National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) campaign No. 20V055000, a software update for the Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM) could cause the electronic brake assist to be disabled. The NHTSA first launched a recall for 463,995 Silverados, Sierras, and Cadillac CT6es on December 12, 2019 due to a software issue in the electronic brake control module (EBCM) that could disable the electronic stability control (ESC) and anti-lock braking system (ABS). As a response and resolution to that recall, GM began to reprogram the software in affected vehicles. GM later learned that the fix was creating a different problem. The installed software had its own error that was disabling the electronic brake assist. If customers see “Service Brake Assist” or “Service ECS" diagnostic warnings, they should park the vehicle and have it towed to a dealership, GM warns. While GM was going through the process of testing, pinpointing the issue, determining action and working with the NHTSA, safety experts have criticized Chevrolet and GMC for not reacting promptly and appropriately. According to the recall, 148,055 are now affected, all of which do not meet the standards of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 126, "Electronic Stability Control" and 135, "Light Vehicle Brake Systems." To fix the braking issue, GM will once again reprogram the software. GM began notifying owners of the recall on February 10, 2020. Related Video:
