1989 Chevy S10 with Throttle Body EFI SBC 350, 700R4 trans and locking 10 bolt rear.  Truck was built with good parts to provide a stout chassis to be a reliable, drive anywhere vehicle.  The front suspension has Ride Tech tubular upper and lower control arms.  Firestone 2500lb air bags.  All of the tie rods and steering parts are new  Moog brand parts.  Front sway bar is ZQ8 S-10.  Front brakes are 98-03 Blazer new dual piston calipers with drilled and slotted rotors, braided stainless brake hoses, mounted onto Bell Tech 2102 drop spindles with Moog unit bearings.  Rear has new parking brake cables, new brake shoes, hardware and drums.  The suspension in the rear has Ride Tech air bar set up.  The rear frame has not been c-notched yet and has one area of rust repair where the notch will go.  The Air supply system has two Viair 480 compressors and an 8 gallon tank where the spare tire belongs and analog controls from the glove box.  The Truck stops incredible with better brakes and the HydroBooster from a Chevy Astro van.  The steering shaft is a from a Jeep Cherokee and is substantially better with improved feel and response than the GM rag joint shaft.

The engine has a Edelbrock 4bbl crab intake and a TBI adapter plate and was intended to be switched to carburetor it uses Hedman headers and is a otherwise stock later model SBC 350.  Cooling is through a stock 4.3 radiator with dual Flex-a-lite fans.  There's also a new Optima yellow top battery.  The transmission is a 700R4 with a shift kit.  It is mounted into the frame with a G Force transmission cross member that allows for the true dual exhaust with Flowmaster mufflers. Everything under the truck is tucked above the frame rails.   The wheels are old school Eagle Alloy minitruckin' wheels 17x8 with 40 series tires.  Inside is very stock and some of it needs to be redone (dash has two cracks and needs new carpet) it has a new Grant steering wheel and a freshly upholstered Leather/Swede stock bench seat, and headliner. The body has good paint and is BMW Laguna Seca Blue.  It is not a ISCA show paint job, but its far, far better than a quick Maaco job.  The only custom work to the body is the shaved front bumper bolts, fuel door, and antenna.

I've owned the truck for about 4 years and have driven it as far as 300 miles one way to travel to car shows.  It averages about 22 mpg on the highway at 70 mph.  There is one thing the new owner must do, mount a permanent fuel tank.  The stock fuel tank is nested in the bed for right now but it is not a good safe place for it.  The inside of the bed and the firewall/inner fenders are not paint color matched.  The vehicle is currently in winter storage so the pictures are not 100% up to date.  Not shown in the pictures are the door panels, and some other details.  I also have Corvette C5 calipers and some other parts that can go with it if the price is high enough.   Please email me with any and all questions.

GM CEO Barra says 'we are selling every truck we can build'

Tue, Jun 14 2022

DETROIT — General Motors Chief Executive Mary Barra said on Monday the automaker is "selling every truck we can build" and expanding North American truck-building capacity, even as U.S. gasoline prices hit record highs. Barra made her comments during the automaker's annual shareholder meeting. GM is pursuing a two-track strategy: Investing heavily in electric vehicles for North America, China and other markets, and funding those investments by trying to maximize profits from its North American combustion pickup truck and large SUV lineups. Barra said GM is planning higher-priced versions of its Silverado large pickup and its large SUV models. GM and its Detroit rivals Ford Motor Co and Stellantis NV rely heavily on sales of large pickup trucks and SUVs for global profits. High U.S. gasoline prices in the past have undermined consumer demand for relatively inefficient models. Nominal pump prices hit an average of above $5 a gallon for the first time ever last week, the federal government said Friday. GM is ramping up production of EVs. Barra said the Cadillac Lyriq electric sport utility is sold out through 2023. In response to shareholder questions, Barra said the "clear priority" for using cash generated by its operations is to "accelerate our EV plans." She did not rule out share buybacks or other approaches to returning cash to shareholders. GM still expects to increase production this year by 25-30%, despite continuing pressure on semiconductor supplies globally. Barra said GM is working to redesign vehicles to reduce the number of processors required by 95%. Barra serves as GM's board chair and CEO. GM shareholders overwhelmingly rejected a proposal to separate those roles.

Fullsize GM SUVs have a problem that's making owners sick

Thu, Dec 31 2015

Some fullsize SUV owners are getting sick, thanks to a buffeting and vibration problem in 2015 model year examples of the Chevy Tahoe and Suburban, Cadillac Escalade, and GMC Yukon. According to owners' complaints to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the issue can vary from an annoying vibration inside the cabin to an experience so severe that it leads to dizziness and headaches. General Motors is aware of the complaints, but the fix isn't so simple. According to spokesperson Tom Wilkinson to Autoblog, the company "has been tracking this issue for a while." The problem has a fairly low incidence rate, but when it does occur the issue can be "uncomfortable and annoying for owners." There's no precise cause for the issue, Wilkinson claims, and in some cases, simply balancing the tires or changing the door seals can make it go away. However, not all of the fixes are so simple. AutoGuide dug deep into the problem and discovered a GM preliminary information bulletin that advised dealers to remove the headliner and to check the roof's bonds to the bows that go across the vehicle. However, that document included a note that the solution might not entirely eliminate things. According to AutoGuide, adding Dynamat insulation to the roof sometimes helped the problem. A GM spokesperson also told AutoGuide the company fixed the problem at the end of the 2015 model year, and didn't go into any more detail. This roof issue seems linked to some of the worst droning in these SUVs. According to one complaint from a 2015 Suburban owner to NHTSA: "Roof will not remain attached to the roof bows. This causes the buffeting similar to a window being down when all are up. The results span from annoying to painful." A 2015 Yukon owner claims to have another alleged cause for the problem in a NHTSA complaint from February 2015. This person brought their SUV to the dealer seven times over the course of four weeks for vibrations. The dealer replaced the driveshaft, suspension components, and more, but nothing worked. According to an engineer to the service adviser: "In an effort to prevent roll overs, they designed the frame and body mounts too stiff. There are 40 engineers working on issues, they have no solutions that work across the board." Wilkinson told Autoblog that GM is working with customers on an individual basis to rectify things. Since these are newer vehicles, dealers should also fix the problem under warranty.

Surprise! GM putting aluminum in next-gen pickups

Wed, Aug 5 2015

Last month, General Motors launched a series of ads touting the benefits of steel over aluminum – specifically, with regard to the Chevy Silverado versus the Ford F-150. (Kind of. We're not sure what a grizzly bear has to do with anything.) We took issue with the ads, with editor in chief Mike Austin saying they "reek of insecurity, and distract from the Silverado's strengths that could be used for positive advertising." But what bothers us more, is that yet another report surfaced claiming anti-aluminum GM will indeed use the weight-saving material in its next-generation fullsize trucks. On Tuesday, GM announced a $877-million investment for its truck plant in Flint, MI. But Reuters says that huge overhaul is because the trucks will use "substantially different equipment than the tools GM uses today." The report specifically states, "People familiar with the company's plans say GM's next-generation pickups and SUVs will make use of various materials, including aluminum and lightweight steel, to shed weight and gain fuel efficiency to meet tougher federal standards." The Silverado already uses a few aluminum components in the engine and hood, and if more widespread use will help GM build its best fullsize trucks ever, then that's great. Honestly, we have no reason to doubt that aluminum will be used in the next Silverado and GMC Sierra. We just hope GM remembers that nothing is ever truly deleted from the bowels of the Internet when it launches the subsequent "look how great aluminum is!" campaign.
