GM already raising prices on 2014 Silverado and Sierra pickups
Mon, 14 Oct 2013General Motors must be pretty pleased with sales of its two newest pickups, the GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Silverado, as it's announced price hikes for both models, as part of a planned price tweak.
Prices will be bumped by as much as $1,500, although weirdly, they'll be offset by as much as $1,500 in cash-back offers through the end of October. Fox Business reports that GM spokesman Jim Cain said of the price hike, "With the sell down of the '13 models nearly complete, this price adjustment was planned and is a normal part of business."
The move, as Fox is quick to point out, is an interesting one, as sales of the twin pickups struggled last month relative to the Ford F-Series, while both of GM's crosstown competitors have been aggressively undercutting Silverado and Sierra prices. The F-150 starts at $24,070 and the Ram 1500 comes in at $23,600, not counting any cash on the hood. A base Silverado, meanwhile, retails at $25,575.
Junkyard Gem: 1980 Chevrolet LUV Mikado
Sat, Oct 9 2021During the 1970s and into the 1980s, each member of the Detroit Big Three imported Japanese small pickups and sold them with Ford (Mazda Proceed), Dodge/Plymouth (Mitsubishi Forte), or Chevrolet (Isuzu Faster) badges here. Ford developed the Ranger and killed the Courier for 1983 (though Americans could still buy the Mazda-badged version all the way through 1993), while The General axed the LUV after the S-10 debuted in the 1982 model year. Isuzu sold the same truck as the P'up through 1987, though, and we might as well follow up our recent P'up Junkyard Gem with its LUV predecessor. LUV stood for Light Utility Vehicle, and I've managed to spot a handful in the boneyards over the years. This one now resides in a yard in northeastern Colorado. The Mikado trim package included striped seat upholstery and a sporty steering wheel, plus these cool dash badges. As far as I can tell, no LUV Mikado advertising featured any Gilbert and Sullivan tunes. This one is fairly rusty for Front Range Colorado, and it has endured a bed swap from some other small truck. The engine is the 75-horse Isuzu 1.8-liter. Members of this engine family went into everything from Chevy Chevettes to Isuzu Troopers in the United States. Very unusually for a small pickup during the Malaise Era, this one has a luxurious automatic transmission. Acceleration must have been a leisurely affair in this truck. Air conditioning? Unheard of! Someone stuck every one of their lunchtime apple stickers on the driver's door. After 41 years of work, this truck is done. Come on strong in a LUV of your own!
2017 Chevrolet Trax gets a friendlier face, more tech
Wed, Feb 10 2016Chevrolet only introduced the Trax for the 2015 model year in the US, but since the car was available for many years in other markets, it's overdue for a refresh. The 2017 model year updates include a major improvement in the CUV's styling and a more extensive slate of available tech. The current Trax looks somewhat frumpy due to its chunky headlights and square face, but the 2017 update does wonders for the compact CUV's styling. The narrower headlights wrap around the front end, and higher trim levels get LED running lights. The angular lower portion of the grille also has more visual flair compared to the current rounded shape. Around back, there are minor tweaks to the bumper and taillights. The 2017 Trax's interior looks like a much nicer place to spend time. A new instrument panel includes an analog speedometer and tachometer, plus a digital info display on the right side. The infotainment system is now Chevy's seven-inch MyLink unit with available Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and 4G LTE support. Chrome trim on the center stack and dashboard also make the updated Trax seem more luxurious inside. The latest model keeps the current powertrain, which consists of a 1.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder with 138 horsepower and 148 pound-feet of torque and a six-speed automatic gearbox. Buyers can now enhance the CUV's safety with optional side blind zone alert, rear cross traffic alert, forward collision alert, and lane departure warning. The 2017 Trax goes on sale this fall in LS, LT, and Premier trims. You can get a good look at the improved styling in the gallery above, and expect live photos of the CUV from the Windy City soon.
