Hey guys - today might be someones lucky day here - I just found a rare 1970 CST 402 powered shortbed I want to go and buy, so now I need to sell my identical 1970 CST longbed w/ all the same stuff - it has the #'s matching 402 BB, factory A/C, pwr brakes, and steering, etc and not sure what all other CST related options, but I bought it as a non-op and have only gotten as far as cleaning up the engine and making it look like dynamite - all the A/C and power steering, correct pullys, BB specific fan, BB shroud etc are present but not on it currently. I have never heard the engine run but this is a low miles barn find truck and someone was planning to pull the engine to go in another vehicle just before I got it and they removed and misplaced the pass-side exhaust manifold so it needs one of those to make it run. Carb is present, radiator etc - everything is here and goes with it. I have two options to offer you guys - either buy the whole truck here on auction for whatever you and the other bidders decide its worth, or I can keep the truck for parts and sell you just the 402BB and all its related BB specific stuff and the T400 trans etc out of it - thinking 1200.00 for the engine, T400 trans, shroud, BB w/ AC specific fan, pullys, all the BB specific A/C brackets and all the PS engine related stuff - not sure if that is about right for all this relatively rare stuff or what, but if it was me I would buy the whole truck and do what I wanted with it I think....certainly easier to load that way. Check out my pics and call me at 256 486 1988 - need to unload this rare longbed to afford the short bed....I know someone needs this truck or at least the drivetrain from it....Thanks, Steve

Look at the pictures and I think you will see this truck is begging for a restoration and will make someone a very beautiful truck for a lot less cost than a lot of poorer condition trucks you see like it for this price range. Call Steve 256 486 1988 to come see it or ask questions....

Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war

Sun, 30 Dec 2012

A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?

Recharge Wrap-Up: LAPD gets Zero MMX, Chevy's new inverter, Hyundai Tucson's new powertrains

Wed, Jul 16 2014

Some police in Los Angeles will be riding Zero MMX electric motorcycles on duty. The LAPD is adding the fully electric police/military all-terrain bikes to its patrol fleet. According to Officer Steve Carbajal of the department's off-road unit, "It costs less than 50 cents to charge compared to using gallons of gas, maintenance is simple, and the community appreciates how quiet they are." The electric bikes, with their lack of noise and a headlight the rider can turn off, also have the benefit of stealth, giving the officers what Carbajal calls "an added tactical advantage." The MMX also has swappable batteries, is designed for quick ignition and has power reserve capabilities so the rider won't be caught with a dead battery while chasing down a perp. Read more at Ride Apart. Remember when it seemed like we'd never run out of oil, and giving your buddy five bucks for gas was actually a worthwhile gesture? Drivers of classic cars in Detroit were able to fill up their tanks at gas prices corresponding to their model year, thanks to a promotion by Hagerty Insurance for National Collector Car Appreciation Day on July 11. That meant prices from 21 to 90 cents a gallon, as the cars that showed up ranged from the years 1929 to 1989. That's about as affordable as charging your EV. Head over to Autoweek for more details and some photos from the event. The next-generation Chevrolet Volt will likely benefit from a new inverter being developed by General Motors. GM is about two-thirds of the way through the development of the new inverter, which should be ready in January 2016. The inverter, which has a peak output of 55 kilowatts a continuous output of 33 kilowatts, will be adaptable for use in other GM vehicles. Chevrolet is working to reduce the Volt's production costs by $10,000 per vehicle, which should make it more affordable, and the new inverter could help reach that goal should it make its way into the car. Read more at Green Car Reports. Hyundai is likely planning some interesting powertrain changes for the 2016 Tucson, says Green Car Reports. Plug-in hybrid? Maybe. Diesel? Probably not. "We are covering the waterfront on all alternative fuel strategies, from standard hybrid, to plug-in, battery-electric, and fuel cell," says Hyundai's US Chief Dave Zuchowski.

GM Recalling 370,000 Trucks For Fire Risk

Mon, Jan 13 2014

DETROIT (AP) - General Motors is recalling 370,000 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra pickups from the 2014 model year to fix software that could cause the exhaust components to overheat and start a fire. The recall includes 303,000 trucks in the U.S. and 67,000 in Canada and Mexico. All of the trucks involved have 4.3-liter or 5.3-liter engines. GM said eight fires have been reported, but no injuries. One garage was damaged, the company said. All of the incidents occurred in cold weather. The company is asking customers not to leave their trucks idling unattended. GM dealers will reprogram the software for free. The company will inform owners starting Jan. 16. The major recall announcement, which came on Saturday, marred the Silverado's winning of the 2014 North American Truck of the Year Award at the Detroit Auto Show on Monday.
