I HAVE FOR SALE A 1958 CHEVROLET APACHE 3600 PICKUP. THIS IS THE HEAVY DUTY 3/4 TON PICKUP WITH 8 LUG WHEELS AND HEAVY DUTY AXLES. IT HAS BEEN SITTING FOR YEARS. I HAVE NOT TRIED TO START IT, BUT THE ENGINE IS NOT STUCK. THE TRANS IS HUNG IN GEAR BUT I HAD SOMEONE HOLD THE CLUTCH PEDAL DOWN AND I WAS ABLE TO TURN THE CRANK BY HAND. OUT OF CURIOSITY I STUCK A BATTERY IN IT AND THE LIGHTS WORKED, THE HORN BLEW, AND I HIT THE STARTER BUTTON WITH MY FOOT AND SPUN IT OVER ONCE. THEN I REMOVED THE BATTERY AND LEFT IT ALONE. THE ENGINE APPEARS TO BE THE 235 THRIFTMASTER 6 CYLINDER. THE ENGINE IS INTACT AND COMPLETE ALONG WITH THE RADIATOR, TRANSMISSION, DRIVESHAFT, AND REAR AXLE. THE GENERATOR HAS BEEN REMOVED BUT IS INSIDE THE CAB. ALL THE GLASS IS THERE. THE INTERIOR APPEARS COMPLETE ALONG WITH THE SEAT AND GAS TANK. THERE ARE THE USUAL RUST AREAS ON THE CAB IN THE REAR CORNERS, STEP AREAS, AND ABOVE THE WINDSHIELD AND REAR WINDOW. THE WOOD FLOOR FOR THE BODY IS GONE AND THE TIRES ARE DRY ROTTED AND FLAT. THE BODY IS ACTUALLY IN DECENT SHAPE CONSIDERING ITS AGE. THERE IS A MOUNT ON THE DRIVER REAR OF THE BODY WHER A VISE WAS ONCE MOUNTED. IT LOOKS LIKE IT COULD BE REMOVED WITHOUT HURTING THE BODY. THE CHASSIS LOOKS TO BE IN REALLY GOOD SHAPE. THE TRUCK HAS A CLEAR NORTH CAROLINA TITLE AND WOULD MAKE AN EXCELLENT FULL RESTORATION OR RAT ROD PROJECT. THESE TRUCKS ARE HARD TO FIND IN THIS COMPLETE CONDITION, ESPECIALLY WITH A TITLE, SO PLEASE BID ACCORDINGLY. THE BUYER WILL BE RESPOSIBLE FOR SHIPPING. I CAN HELP GET IT LOADED IF NEEDED. THE TRUCK IS ALSO FOR SALE LOCALLY SO I RESERVE THE RIGHT TO END THE AUCTION EARLY. WITH THAT BEING SAID, MY INTENTIONS REALLY ARE TO LET THE AUCTION RUN ITS COURSE AND SELL TO THE WINNING BIDDER. THE STARTING BID WILL BE $500 WHICH I THINK IS PLENTY LOW ENOUGH. FULL PAYMENT IS DUE WITHIN 7 DAYS OF END OF AUCTION. I'M NO EXPERT ON THESE TRUCKS BUT I WILL TRY TO ANSWER ANY QUESTIONS I CAN. AS YOU CAN TELL FROM THE PICTURES I HAVENT DONE ANYTHING TO IT, ITS JUST THE WAY I FOUND IT. I DID SPRAY SOME PENETRATING OIL ON THE HOOD HINGES AND DOOR HINGES TO LOOSEN THEM UP A LITTLE, THATS ALL. HAPPY BIDDING ON THIS CLASSIC AND GOOD LUCK!

Helicopter crashes on Top Gear Korea set while chasing Corvette ZR1

Mon, 11 Feb 2013

The formula of Top Gear Korea is seemingly about the same as it is everywhere else in the world, including the flagship British original: involve interesting cars in fantastical situations with charismatic hosts. That prescription has proved to be pretty reliable over the years, and has lead to some truly memorable and exciting pieces of television.
Something like that was undoubtedly what the Korean producers were after when they lined up this segment - a drag race between a Chevrolet Corvette ZR1 and an AH1 Cobra military helicopter. The planners almost certainly did not expect the filming of the segment to go quite as wrong as it actually did, with the helicopter actually crashing into the dirt after the "drag race" had been completed. Thankfully, we're told that no one was seriously injured in the crash, but the footage, in the video below, is pretty damn chilling to watch, nevertheless.

Read This: Auto Extremist advocates for Corvette as brand with multiple models [w/poll]

Fri, 25 Jan 2013

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette really grinds Peter De Lorenzo's gears. Or, more accurately, the self-anointed Auto Extremist has an issue with what he sees as mismanagement of the legendary sports car by General Motors executives. In a new editorial on his website, De Lorenzo argues it's time to split Corvette off from Chevrolet to create an all-new brand, complete with a model range with at least three new takes on the sports car. Capable of fully leveraging the successes of the Corvette Racing program and brandishing the full might of GM's technical prowess, the Corvette brand would theoretically give Porsche something to sweat over.
Sure, that sounds like a party, but given GM's troubled track record when it comes to launching (let alone managing) brands, we say that's slippery slope that could just as easily end with the whole Corvette franchise in the scrap bin. Either way, the notion is certainly an interesting one. Head over to Auto Extremist to take in the full editorial, and then let us know what you think in Comments. Should GM split off its most storied nameplate?

GM warning 800,000 owners that their cars may need oil changes more frequently than they say

Fri, 05 Apr 2013

The days of changing your engine oil every 3,000 miles are long gone thanks to most cars having automatic oil monitoring systems, but about 800,000 General Motors vehicles apparently have incorrect monitoring software that is leading to premature engine component wear. According to Autoweek, certain 2010-2012 Buick LaCrosse, Regal, Chevrolet Equinox and GMC Terrain models equipped with 2.4-liter four-cylinder engines could be going too long in between oil changes resulting in a higher-than-normal number of warranty claims for the engine's balance chain. The balance chain links the balance shaft to the crankshaft, and a worn one can produce higher noise levels.
As a fix, GM dealers will be reprogramming the software for the monitors in an effort to reduce the interval between oil changes, which varies based on driving habits and conditions. Through February 2015, the software update will be done at no cost to vehicle owners, but since this is not a recall, after that point, it will be up to the discretion of dealers as to whether or not they will charge for the service. What isn't immediately clear is whether GM plans on giving assistance to out-of-warranty customers who are experiencing engine issues from the worn chain.
