Seller Remarks The first time I drove this car, I fell in love with it. As a result, I have always taken particular care of it and it has always been kept in the garage. On the road it handles like a dream. If you’ve never driven one of these, you’re in for a treat. Around town, it will take most of the new sporty import cars at a light. I joke that it’s a hybrid, it burns gas and rubber. (But I never do that.) And unlike many Impalas, this one has not been modified in any way, except for the Impala logo valve stem caps I added. Black was always the most popular choice for this car, and it looks spectacular. My grandson hit a deer with it a couple of year ago and I had it repaired with GM parts and repainted to factory specs. (I still love him but he’s out of the will). It would take an expert to notice any difference. The only interior available with the Impala was gray leather with front bucket seats. In 1996, they moved the shifter to the console and added a tachometer and the 160 mph speedometer. The interior shows only minor signs of use, certainly in line with the mileage. The steering wheel has normal wear on the top. I put a matching cover on it but I hear they can be refinished. The front seats are in good condition with minimal wear or discoloration, and the cushion still has good support for long road trips. The back seat still looks brand new and there have been no more than a handful of passengers back there over the past 20 years. The gauges are 100% functional. I repaired the odometer resistor which goes out on these cars and the rear door window rollers which break. It retains the original Delco AM/FMCD stereo, which sounds decent even compared to some of today’s audio tech. Of course, everything was included with the SS such as A/C, power windows and locks, and cruise control, coin holder in the console and it all works like it should. In back, there’s a giant trunk carrying the original full-size spare, which I don’t think has ever been on the ground. The engine is GM’s indestructible 5.7 liter LT1 V8, which makes 260 horsepower in the Impala. I had the transmission replaced in Dec 09 at about 100,000 miles. It’s the 4L60E 4-speed automatic. It’s the same power train that was used in the police Caprice interceptors. The Impala SS is a rare machine, not just terms of production, but in that it is a car that simultaneously created and ended a niche market, yet it remains popular years later. As the last rear-wheel-drive, body on frame sedan built by GM, it does hold a place of distinction. But add in a Corvette-sourced LT1 under the hood, an athletic suspension, and that distinctive monochromatic paint job and you have a slam-dunk of a collector car that will always sell for a premium price for years after it went out of production. Seems like when they got everything right, they quit making them. The car is located just south of Wichita, KS. I have it listed locally and reserve the right to end the auction early. Payment must be COD and any shipping will be up to you. |

2022 GMC Sierra Denali Ultimate vs. 2022 Ram 1500 Limited Longhorn vs. Ford F-150 Limited | Luxury truck interior face-off
Fri, Oct 22 2021GMC's new uber-expensive 2022 Sierra Denali Ultimate is the latest luxury truck to nudge toward six-figure territory. With demand for upmarket half-tons surging, GMC's otherwise-solid pickup found itself in desperate need of an interior remodel. For 2022, we're getting just that, and it appears ready to take the fight to the segment's best, including the 2022 Ram 1500 Limited and 2022 Ford F-150 Limited. Here's the new Denali Ultimate interior in all of its full-grain, open-pore glory. 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate vs. 2021 GMC Denali Not only did the material quality and styling both improve greatly, but the new truck also gets a completely different shifter setup (truck buyers don't like column shifters anymore, apparently). It would actually be difficult to overstate the quality of the upgrade here; the photos really speak for themselves. It's also worth noting that in addition to looking significantly more upscale than the model it's succeeding, the new Denali interior also differs a bit more from its Chevy counterpart than its predecessor did. Here's the new Silverado High Country for reference: While some elements do carry over, the entire dash design is different, down to the positioning of the heating and cooling vents. While the main HVAC controls are essentially carried over, note that they're pretty much the only ones. Even the horizontal bar of switches running along the center stack is positioned differently between the two. Yep. This is a pretty big upgrade over the 2021 cabin, and clearly the range-topper in GM's truck hierarchy. But what of the competition? 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate vs. 2022 Ram Limited Longhorn Southfork This one's tough. We're going to have to spend time in them back to back, but the Ram Limited, with its various anniversary editions and other special permutations, is certainly the interior to beat. To our eyes, the Sierra's more horizontal layout is a bit more modern and perhaps luxurious-looking than the more upright cabin treatment of the Ram, but it's tough to say for certain from photos. Both the Denali Ultimate and Ram Limited carry their upscale feel into their back benches too, which is something we can't say quite as confidently about our next contestant. 2022 GMC Sierra 1500 Denali Ultimate vs. 2021 Ford F-150 Limited The Ford F-150 Limited holds its own, but it's probably the least photogenic of the models we've looked at here, at least apart from the outgoing Denali.
Is this GM's next electric crossover?
Thu, Nov 16 2017GM made headlines this week when CEO Mary Barra presented the company's electrification and automation plans at the Barclays Global Automotive Conference in New York. "We are committed to a future electric vehicle portfolio that will be profitable," Barra said, which could be taken as a jab at Tesla. In the presentation ( PDF here), though, we see a new vehicle in a slide titled "Leveraging existing BEV platform to expand in near term." The vehicle, seen above, accompanied the captions "New CUV entries" and "two entries by 2020." Is this a sneak preview of an upcoming electric crossover from GM? The image seems too realistic and intentional to be a random placeholder. If this is, indeed, an upcoming battery-electric CUV based on the Bolt, the question remains: Will it be a Chevy or a Buick? It has no visible badging, but it shares DNA from both brands. As Inside EVs points out, though, it does bear a resemblance to the Chevrolet FNR-X concept unveiled in Shanghai earlier this year. With two CUVs on the way, it's not unthinkable that there could be a version for each brand. In addition to this slide, the presentation includes plans for an "All new multi-brand, multi-segment platform" launching in 2021. The all-new modular battery system will cost less than $100 per kWh, providing higher energy density and faster charging. The platform will host at least nine different vehicles, including a compact crossover, seven-seat luxury SUV and a large commercial van. GM has said it will launch 20 new EVs by 2023, and that it targets 1 million EV sales per year by 2026. Many of those sales will be in China. Related Video:
It won't be long now before Nissan Leaf finally overtakes Chevy Volt
Thu, Dec 25 2014The two best-selling plug-in vehicles ever are the Chevy Volt and the Nissan Leaf. When the two vehicles launched in late 2010, the plug-in hybrid Volt quickly outpaced the all-electric Leaf and, despite lots of ups and downs since then, continues to hold on to a cumulative sales lead. This will change in 2015. Cumulatively, from November 2010 through November 2014, the Volt sold 71,867 units while the Leaf trails with 69,220. That's a difference of just 2,647. Based on current trends (with the Leaf selling around 2,500-2,700 a month and the Volt at 1,500-1,700) we expect the Leaf to take over either in January or, more likely, February when the Leaf takes over as the most popular plug-in car in America. Perhaps even March, depending on how low the numbers are for January and February, which are always slow sales months in the US. Of course, once it takes the crown, the Leaf can't expect to easily hold on for long. A new Volt is coming in the second half of 2015, likely beating a new Leaf to market. The question is, then, how well the Chevy sells with all of its new bells and whistles. Do you think the Volt will be the comeback kid once the 2016 model becomes available?
