You could search far and wide and likely never find a 59 El Camino nicer, straighter, more solid or better restored than this one. It just completed a 12 year absolute, complete frame off, nut and bolt restoration and upgrade with meticulous detail to correct factory components, finishes and hardware until final assembly when it was decided to upgrade to a new engine for increased power and dependability and interior and air conditioning upgrades for comfort and appearance. In addition on the first test drive it was immediately apparent that the car could benefit from a more modern steering system and a new year/model specific (not a one size fits all) rack and pinion power steering system was installed. Any 59 El Camino draws attention where ever it goes as a result of its somewhat radical design and styling but once glance at this one commands a closer look and it is very apparent the sweat and blood that went into its meticulous restoration and assembly which is proven by its accumulation of nothing less than FIRST place awards received in only one summer since its completion. Great effort has gone into photographing and covering the details of this car however I would certainly encourage a personal inspection to realize its merits. I will add that I am not a professional photographer and these photos do not begin to capture the real likeness of this car. This is especially true of the undercarriage photos which were taken in a dimly lit garage with a camera flash and every spec of dust or dirt glows like neon which sadly distracts form from its actual exceptionally clean appearance.

Chassis:

This is the original blasted and painted factory frame utilizing all original rebuilt/refurbished components except as follows

Rear air shocks to allow leveling of the vehicle with no weight in the bed

Disc break conversion on all 4 corners dramatically improving stopping power

Corvette brake master cylinder

Aftermarket power rack and pinion steering system to eliminate the original boat like handling

Stainless steering rods and U-joints

2" dropped coil springs in front w/ heavy duty shocks

Vintage 5 spoke American Racing wheels polished and painted to mach interior

New Dayton classic tires

Spare matching painted wheel and new Dayton classic tire

Drive Train:

All original from the bell housing back. The original factory Powerglide trans was rebuilt from top to bottom using new and improved components wherever possible as was the original factory rear end. The engine is a late model GM 350 c.i. crate motor with a mild cam upgrade

New factory replacement radiator

Edelbrock performer intake and 1406 performer 600 cfm 4 barrel carb w/ elec. Choke

New GM HEI distributor

GM ram exhaust manifolds

Custom bent exhaust w/ stainless mufflers

GM serpentine single belt drive system

Tuff Stuff chromed 100 amp alternator

Tuff Stuff chromed A/C compressor

GM style gen. 2 polished aluminum power steering pump and pulley w/ stainless lines and polished aluminum reservoir

Body:

Body restoration started with an unconventionally straight solid western body. Panels were painstakingly massaged and straightened as needed with extra care taken in alignment of panels. Although the body was very nice to begin with many hours were spent restoring the fit and finish well beyond the original factory quality.

All stainless molding was reworked as needed and polished

Much of the anodized aluminum trim was chromed for improved appearance

ALL bumpers and ALL original chrome trim was re plated to an exceptional finish

Windshield and rear glass was replaced with new

All rubber seals and gaskets on the entire body were replaced with new quality replacements

Paint inside the bed is as nice as the outer body

Interior:

Entire dash steering column, gauge pods etc. were painted champagne color to match the wheel spokes

All original gauges rebuilt or replaced w/ original factory replacements

The steering wheel is not correct but I recently found a very nice correct original wheel which I purchased and will make available to the buyer at my actual cost

The seats, center console with working factory tach and door trim are from a 60’s Olds F85 and have been recovered to match the interior color

New carpet, headliner and upholstered storage area behind the seats

Vintage Air air conditioning system made to operate off the original air control panel on the dash and will literally freeze you out.

Replacement modern electronics factory look radio

Replacement (factory vent delete) kick panels to accept modern speakers

NOTE:

I recently purchased a brand new rebuilt from top to bottom Muncie 4 speed transmission with absolutely every part needed to install including refurbished original pedal assembly, all linkage components down to the nuts bolts and cotter pins, bell housing, clutch, pressure plate, fork, throw out bearing, Hurst shifter etc. etc. This trans bolts to the original (current) trans cross member, utilizes the existing drive shaft and can be installed in an afternoon. The entire system was purchased from a friend with another 59 El Camino, it was installed and completely functional when he decided to switch to a T56. I purchased the COMPLETE assembly from him this past fall but have not had the chance to install it. I will make it available to the auction winner if he chooses for what it cost me.

I rarely have the opportunity to review emails so it is best to call with questions. 317-600-1117.

GM applies for LT5, LTX trademarks... are new small block variants coming?

Mon, 29 Apr 2013

Recently discovered General Motors trademark applications for LT4, LT5, LT88 and LTX have observers wondering what kind of high-performance offerings could be on their way. A new LT4 would mark a return of the engine designation first used on the Corvette Grand Sport, SLP Pontiac Firehawk and SLP Chevrolet Camaro SS from 1996 and 1997. Supposition at Corvette Forum - which provided advance intel on the C7 like these leaked images - believes a new LT4 could go into the high-performance trim of the next-gen, 2015 Camaro that would be more powerful than the 580-horsepower Camaro ZL1.
Seeing an LT5 again would also be déjà vu - in its former life it was a 5.7-liter V8 for the C4 Corvette ZR-1 from 1990-1994 designed by Lotus, producing from 370 hp to 405 hp. A mix of rumor and hope is that the new LT5 will be a supercharged evolution of the 6.2-liter LT1 (pictured) placed in the new C7 Corvette, and that it will go into the C7 version of the ZR1 pumping out something like 700 hp.
The LTX trademark is, as with that last letter, a complete mystery. If the "X" isn't a generic way to denote the whole LT family, it's wondered if it LTX could refer to a crate motor offering like the LSX.

GM recalls select Chevy Cruze, Sonic and Buick Verano models over airbag issue

Wed, 14 Nov 2012

General Motors is recalling certain 2012 Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze and Sonic models due to a defect in the driver's airbag system. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the airbag has a shorting bar which may contact two internal terminals. If that happens during a crash, the supplemental restraint may not deploy, increasing the risk of driver injury. The recall includes a total of 2,949 units.
GM will contact owners and replace the steering wheel airbag coil at no cost. At this point, it's unclear when the recall will begin, though owners may contact the automaker at 1-800-521-7300 for more information. You may also take a closer look at the full NHTSA notice below.
