Im putting up for auction a rare & unique 1996 LT4 Corvette coupe. I bought this car as a summer driver but getting in and out of the car on a daily basis isnt as easy as I thought it would be. Car is in excellent condition with only 60k miles & has an excellent carfax. Mileage is currently at 60500. I drive the car occasionally so it might go up but not by much. First off the car is an LT4 model. The LT4 engine was only available to 6 speed models in 1996. They produced around 21500 Vettes in 1996 and only 6500 of them were LT4s. These motors were known to have been grossly underrated in power output by GM. The official GM stated output was 330hp, however many stock units were dyno'd at close to 400hp. Most speculate GM deliberately underrated them so they wouldn't overshadow the upcoming LS1 engine in the C5 corvette. To make this car stand out from other LT4s out there it has had thousands of dollars in extras/modifications invested in it. Here is a list of what has been done or installed:

1. Black Grandsport/ZR-1 Rims
2. Brand new matching tires all around(275/40/17s front & 315/35/17 rears) Tires are Sumitomo HTR-Zs. Ill include the original receipt for any warranty purposes.
3.Long tube headers(I still have the originals). I think they are TPiS but not sure.
4. Borla exhaust.
5.Custom 3 inch tubing with X-pipe connecting headers to the Borlas
6.MSD Digital 6 Plus Ingition, MSD wires, and MSD Coil(coil not installed yet)
7.Grandsport paint stripes(painted- NOT decals)
8. New double din JVC cd/radio with aftermarket speakers replacing the Bose units.
9. Hypertech programmed with programmer included. Performance programming uploaded. Speedo re-calibrated for larger tires. Engine fan set to come on at lower temperature. Stock programming is on the programmer.
10. Short shifter installed. Not sure if its a B&M or a Hurst. For those that dont know what a short shifter is, be aware though that the throws are short & "notchy" Also it has the 1 to 4 bypass installed.

11. Granatelli Motorsports MAF(I have the original MAF if needed)

As mentioned above, the car has long-tube headers installed, thus it doesnt have the cats installed. When the previous owner bought the car it came with the factory headers/cats installed & with a cat-back Borla exhaust system. The previous owner then removed the factory headers/cats & installed the long tube headers and a custom exhaust with x-pipe connected to the Borla mufflers. I still also have the rest of the Borla cat-back system as well as the factory headers and cats. If you buy this car you can choose to drive it in its current setup(long tube headers, no cats, custom exhaust with x-pipe, and Borla mufflers) or you can revert back to the previous system(factory headers & cats, cat-back Borla system). The previous owner did have no problem passing emission checks with the currently installed system, though. Cheater plugs are used for the oxygen sensors. No check engine lights are on. Original sensors are in still in the cats.

Car is Torch Red with the black Grandsport stripe scheme. As mentioned before, the stripes are painted, they are not decals. No leaks. Goes down the road straight. Manual 6-speed transmission. Right now I have a round Momo shift knob on it but it also comes with a smaller leather knob as well.  Leather dual power seats in great shape-no rips or tears. Auto climate control that blows cold air & the vent buttons work(unlike most 96 Vettes).  It has a double din JVC radio/cd player. Bose speakers were replaced with aftermarket by previous owner. Original factory housings are used though-no cutting or cheesy looking aftermarket grills or housings. Radio was a factory fit so there is no cutting of the bezel. Radio plays MP3s and has a front USB input for ipod or other devices. You also have the option of adding JVCs aftermarket bluetooth module if so desired. This radio supports it. All manuals(including original window sticker), two sets of keys with key fobs. FOBs work & so does the PKE, though I currently have it disabled. I have the security socket for the lug nuts as well as the ratchet for the roof. Paint & body are in awesome shape for its age. Id rate them an 8 out of 10. Im being conservative though & realistically they are probably closer to an 8.5/9.  If I go over the car carefully Id probably find a stone chip or two but overall the paint/body are in great shape. Interior is a 7.5 out of 10 with some signs of wear hear & there. Mainly the most wear is on the side of the shift console plate, right where your knee would hit. The rubber coating is worn away. I dont really notice it since my knee is in that spot. A new console plate will run you about $105 plus shipping off Ebay.

The bad: the power antenna mast no longer goes down. Its stuck in the up position & the motor works but it needs a new ribbon(I have the repair kit, just havent installed it). Also some of the weather stripping is starting to dry up. Nothing major but I do notice it in some spots. Very common with these Vettes.  The rear hatch has some tint applied. It wasnt a very good job & there is some wrinkling near the bottom center. At one point there must have been a speaker or amp mounted in the back. There are some indents on the rear hatch carpet but arent really noticeable.  One of the fobs has a piece of tape holding it together. It still works though. The previous owner put some small stickers in the door jambs on both sides. These are small "borla", "hypertech", and "K&N" stickers. I was too scared to try to remove them so they are still there. There is also a small "Holley" sticker under the hood which you can see in some of the pics.

This car definitely turns heads. Between its mean sounding exhaust and unique paint job it really grabs attention. Ive had several C5 & C6 owners tell me it was a really nice looking Vette. They really loved the torch red, black stripes, and black rims combination. I really like what the previous owner did to this car to make it stand out from other Vettes/LT4s. The only thing I would have done different is probably not installed the short shifter. I dont care for it but others really like it. It came with the car however, so its going with the car.

Winning bidder is responsible for all shipping costs. I have no problem, though, helping with any shipping arrangements on my end. If the final bid is over $13k, I would drive the car for up to a 200 mile radius if that helps. The factory headers/cats should fit in the back hatch but if you want the unused section of the Borla exhaust system, youll need a separate vehicle. I had no problem setting it in the back of a 2011 Impala with the seats folded down.

I might be open to straight-up trades to those within a 200 mile radius.

For the winning bidder, cash & wire transfers are fastest & preferred. I will accept a bank check but I will confirm the funds with the bank first before I release the car. I own the car & have the title in hand.

You can contact me via Ebay or call me at 920-791-0919 with questions. You are more than welcome to come check the car out before the auction ends.

GM program sees dealers taking on way more loaner cars

Wed, Dec 17 2014

Given the volume of vehicles we're talking about, this is a significant development for GM's bottom line. Bring your car into the dealership for service, and you may need a loaner car in exchange. And with so many recalls being carried out, that means a lot of loaners – especially at General Motors dealerships. That could be one of the reasons why GM is massively expanding its loaner fleet program. While many Chevrolet and Buick-GMC dealerships have an on-site rental car location operated by a third party like Enterprise (which may or may not provide a GM vehicle), others manage their own loaner fleets. But while the range of dealerships operating such fleets was once small, reports Automotive News, the number has been growing rapidly: from the locations responsible for only 20 percent of those brands' sales two years ago to about 90 percent today. The impetus for that growth comes down to a massive expansion of GM's Courtesy Transportation Program. The initiative encourages dealers to ramp up their loaner fleet to a maximum size determined by GM, with a mix determined by the dealer itself, so that a showroom in Texas can be bolstered with a fleet of pickup trucks and a dealer in California can employ more Volt and Camaro Convertible loaners. The dealership gets a $500 credit for each vehicle its puts in its fleet, and can use those vehicles as loaners for service customers, as multi-day test drivers or to rent out separately. The vehicles remain in the dealer's fleet for 90 days or 7,500 miles, then they can be sold as used, but with new-car incentives. The dealer gets a fleet of loaners, customers get to use the loaners, try out a new car overnight or buy a barely used car with attractive incentives, and GM gets to clock more sales. But therein lies the kicker: the automaker counts the dispatch of the loaner new vehicle to the dealership as a new-car sale, which could end up distorting its sales figures. Counting loaner vehicles as sold vehicles is something of an industry-standard practice, but given the volume of vehicles we're talking about, this is a significant development for GM's bottom line. One dealership - Paddock Chevrolet in Kenmore, NY, for example - had no loaner fleet two years ago, but now runs a fleet of 50 vehicles. Multiply that by the 4,000 or so dealers GM has across America and you're talking about the potential for hundreds of thousands of these sorts of sales.

Chevy rolls out Silverado HD High Country

Wed, 09 Apr 2014

It's been a good week for heavy-duty truck buyers. First, Ram revealed the Black Package for its HD trucks, then it rolled out its new Power Wagon, and now Chevy's getting in on the action with its Silverado High Country HD. Okay, so it may not pack quite the attitude of Ram's latest 2500-series offerings, but the High Country HD will come as a welcome addition to the Chevy Trucks range to those looking to pull their horse, boat or other trailer without skimping on creature comforts.
Rolled out a little under a year ago, the High Country trim is Chevy's answer to the likes of the GMC Denali, Ford King Ranch and Ram Longhorn. It has until now only been offered on the light duty, 1500-series Silverado, but now extends to the 2500 and 3500-series HD models, as well.
So what sets a High Country pickup apart from lesser Chevy trucks? You'll be able to pick it out based on its chrome horizontal grille, body-color bumpers, 6-inch tubular side steps, 20-inch chrome wheels (18-inch on the 3500 and 17-inch on the dualie) and, of course, plenty of special badging. But it's inside where the High Country makes its mark, with a cabin decked out in saddle brown perforated leather, seats that are both heated and cooled, eight-inch touchscreen with full MyLink suite, Bose audio and park assist functions front and rear to keep those color-keyed bumpers looking fresh. (Though Chevy hasn't yet showed us the interior of the HD model, it'll presumably look mostly the same as the cab in the 1500 High Country in the gallery below.)

Chevy says not to look at the 2019 Silverado's fuel economy rating

Tue, Nov 20 2018

The 2019 Chevy Silverado is hitting dealerships soon, and one of the most notable changes for the new full-size pickup is the addition of a 2.7-liter turbocharged inline-four. The engine replaces the naturally-aspirated 4.3-liter V6 in volume consumer models like the Silverado LT and promises more power, less weight and — most importantly — better fuel economy. The thing is, the gains in efficiency haven't been as dramatic as some might have hoped, especially when stacked up against competitors from Ford and Ram. As Automotive News reports, GM's response is a little murky. First, let's talk numbers. We're pulling all figures from FuelEconomy.gov, the official U.S. government source for fuel ratings. Fuel economy numbers on trucks vary greatly based on a number of factors. Bed and cab configuration play a part, but so does a four-wheel-drive system. You also have to factor in tires, transmissions, rear-axle gearing, hybrid systems and cylinder deactivation. Things like that can make the difference between best- and worst-in-class. The EPA's website doesn't give enough information a lot of the time, so there's really no easy way to compare apples-to-apples. First, take a look at the ratings for the 2019 Silverado. A 2.7-liter model with two-wheel drive is rated 20 city, 23 highway and 21 combined. That's both better and worse than a two-wheel drive 2018 Silverado with the 4.3-liter V6 (18 city, 24 highway and 20 combined). The updated 2019 Silverado with a 4.3-liter V6 has yet to be rated. With less weight and a smaller engine, many hoped Chevy would make bigger gains. It's unusual to see any decrease in a fuel economy metric these days. GM says that it's not done tuning the new 2.7-liter engine, so fuel economy could theoretically increase. Expanding further, a V8-powered 2019 Silverado (17 city, 24 highway and 19 combined) actually gets better highway fuel economy than a turbocharged four-cylinder powered truck in certain configurations, even if the latter has a better overall average. But that's only with two-wheel drive, the 8-speed transmission and cylinder deactivation. A Silverado with the 5.3-liter V8 and a 6-speed automatic is rated at 15 city, 22 highway and 17 combined. The biggest issue with the Silverado 2.7-liter doesn't come from within GM itself but from Ford and Ram. GM cites the Ford F-150 with the 3.3-liter V6 and the Ram 1500 with the 3.6-liter V6 as the closest competitors to its new 2.7-liter inline-four.
