1962 Chevrolet GM built Proto Type Show car Corvair Spyder Convertible.  This car was built in early April 1962 prior to the release of the Spyder option in late May of 1962. This car has only 28000 original miles and retains its original engine that assembled by the GM engineering department.  It has the Job order number stamped in the original block.  As with most GM show cars it received custom body work and paint which includes the single white racing stripe down the hood.  It also received a set of Kelsey Hayes knock off wire wheels that became a new option for Corvairs in 1962.  In the photos you will see a magazine article with pictures of the car with Bill Mitchell and Bunkie Knudson standing next to it at the GM design studio in Detroit.  In late April of 1962 the car was taken down to the Greenbrier Hotel in West Virginia for a GM senior management meeting to show off the new Spyder option.   After the meeting GM gave the car to the hotel manager of the Greenbrier.  It remained there until 1980 when subsequently traded in on a new Cadillac.  The Spyder option with its 4 speed Turbo Charged 150 hp engine and bucket seats started the pony car wars between the big three.  This car is believed to be the first Spyder built the only know prototype to exist.  This is a unique opportunity to own a rare car with significant historical provenance at a reasonable price.  It has won its AACA national Senior award as well as the Corvair society of Anmerica's Concourse DE Elegance senior division award.  This car has no rust original floors detailed undercarriage.  This definitely the most unique rarest historically significant Corvair Spyders out there.

Chevrolet planning low-cost Corvette under Stingray?

Wed, 27 Feb 2013

If you're burnt out on musings about the Chevrolet Corvette, you'll want to go ahead and skip this post. Motor Trend reports General Motors is hard at work on a low-cost version of the seventh-generation sports car for 2015. Rumored to be called the Corvette Coupe, the car will forgo the Stingray and skip the 450-horsepower 6.2-liter V8 engine in favor of a 5.3-liter V8 with under 400 ponies. If you're keeping track, that's a shade of the same engine found behind the headlights of the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra.
The report also suggests the Coupe will receive a number of aesthetic tweaks to separate it from the Stingray, including different front and rear fascias as well as new front fenders and a rear diffuser. Motor Trend says the point of all this is to cut the car's price tag, which means we may see a Corvette on showroom floors for less than $50,000 if this car comes to fruition.

Why the Corvette's Performance Data Recorder can be illegal in some states

Fri, 26 Sep 2014

The Performance Data Recorder with Valet Mode available on the 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray seems like a fantastic tool for many owners. Whether they are taking 720p video while lapping the track in their new 'Vette, or just want to protect their purchase from inconsiderate joyriders, the system offers a lot of functionality in one package. However, one of the PDR's features might get buyers in trouble with the law, and it has nothing to do with recording some illicit high-speed driving on a favorite back road. The problem hinges on the various state laws concerning a person's right to privacy.
According to a letter posted by Jalopnik, Chevy dealers are asking 2015 Corvette owners not to use the Valet Mode portion of the PDR because it records audio in the cabin, in addition to performance specs. That's a problem because privacy laws vary from state to state with some requiring just one side's consent to tape sound and others requiring all parties to agree. According Jalopnik, 15 states mandate everyone's permission beforehand, but it's not clear whether these numbers are up to date. (Actually, the report varies, saying 13 states in some places and 15 in a list.)
According to the letter, Chevy is already working on a software update for the near future to rectify the issue. It's possible that simply adding a warning to drivers and the ability to turn off the audio recording function in Valet Mode might solve the problem. Obviously, this doesn't preclude Corvette drivers from using the performance aspect of the PDR, and owners are free tape lap after lap at the track.

Chevy gets cracking on Cruze EV fleet testing

Chevrolet Cruze EV - Click above for high-res image gallery
The Chevrolet Volt hasn't yet gone on sale, but General Motors is looking at ways of expanding its electric vehicle lineup. Chevy, along with partner LG, is employing a group of all-electric cars in the form of the Cruze. The sedans are part of a demonstration fleet which is located in Seoul, South Korea and is being used to provide data in an electric vehicle research project. The goal is to gather information on driving patterns and charging behavior in addition to consumer acceptance.
The Cruze EVs, along with some Daewoo Lacetti Premieres EVs, are the first fleet of full-size electric vehicles and should provide invaluable information for The General. Staying full-size means not sacrificing cargo space, so the battery pack is mounted to the underbody, leaving the trunk area open for plenty recyclable, canvas grocery bags.
