Chevy Chevelle

454 Big Block

VIN: 136379K372861

I’m often asked where we find these unique cars.  One of my best employees cruises parking lots of retirement homes, Elks clubs, the V.F.W halls and the back alleys of a well-known Scandinavian neighborhood here in Seattle. He can spot a seatbelt slammed in a car door a mile away… He even notices when a vehicle is driving down the road with a turn signal on too long and he positively twitches with glee when he passes a rig with metal bumpers, especially when it’s a muscle car!  With that said, here’s a little history/report on this VERY sharp Chevelle SS Clone:

If you’re in the market for a great driving, well-kept, vintage street/strip driver please give this Chevy your kind attention.  You’re also welcome to contact me with questions or to discuss a sale before the end of the Ebay listing.  My name is Mark Thompson and I can be reached at 206/914-1173

CONDITION:

The photos really tell the Chevelle’s story.  It has always been a western Washington car and in the spring of 2008 came to the shop of a local builder/restorer here in the snow-free Puget Sound Area.  For the past six years it’s been his project build & occasional weekend driver.  I take great pride in the vehicles we sell and feel that you should know as much about them as possible.  Accordingly, here is a list of the good and also one or two final tasks for completion:

The first question I’m always asked is about rust.  Well, this classic cruiser HATES rust and you’ll be very hard pressed to find anything here to worry about.  Yes, the Puget Sound region gets its share of drizzle, but rarely any snow so our winter roads are not salted.  One snowflake and everyone stays home.  Besides, this vehicle has not even seen a winter road in more than six years!  Climb over, under and throughout; I know you’ll come up smiling!

One turn of the key and the strong 454 cubic-inch V8 fires right up with just a few pumps of the gas pedal when cold.  While it’s not original to the car, Chevrolet never built factory motors like this!  The engine was balanced & blueprinted as the build progressed with the addition of a forged steel crank, high-dome pistons and solid lifters.  The high-rise Edelbrock aluminum intake is fed by a Demon 750 CFM carb.  Custom Hedman Headers keep back pressure to a minimum while boosting output by at least 20+ HP.  Fuel delivery is well-fed by a high capacity electric pump with under-hood sight glass and fuel gauge.  The intake is also fully plumbed for NOS.  The system gauges are discreetly mounted below the dash with the NOS tank in the trunk.  Just hookup the main line & gauges for completion – the instruction are included.  An ACCEL HEI ignition fires the plugs and everything’s kept cool by two electric fans pulling through a newer aluminum radiator.  The Turbo 400 automatic transmission (with stall convertor and B&M floor shifter) operates just like it should with NO slippage.  Power steering and front disk brakes are here, too.

The restorer completely stripped the body to bare metal before redoing the GM Black Cherry metallic paint.  The windshield, vinyl roof and trim were replaced.  Underneath, the twelve bolt positraction rear pumpkin has 356 gears (great for off the line, yet very drivable in street use).  The suspension has new drag links, bushings and bearings.  All brakes were redone.

Take another look at my interior shots.  The carpet, door panels, seat vinyl (both front buckets and rear bench) are new.  As pictured, there are NO cracks in the dash cover.  The original headliner has a few loose seams but both sun visors are fine.  I’m quite impressed with the dash gauges.  The restorer installed a new vacuum-formed custom dash panel with a full back-lit gauge package – BETTER than stock.  The odometer was set to zero and has accumulated less than four thousand miles since completion.  He also deleted the heater system including the heater core outside the firewall.  Because everyone has different tastes in sound systems, there is no stereo or speakers mounted right now.

I really like the look of the Crager S/S style deep-dish chrome five spoke wheels!  They’re wrapped with 275/40R18 BF Goodrich G-Force radials each having at least 80% rubber.  This road rocket Chevelle really is a blast to drive and absolutely turns heads everywhere you go!  Light ‘em up and they’ll hear you coming a block away – There’s nothing like the sound of a Chevy Big Block at 5 or 6K through short-muffled headers!

Please feel free to contact me with any questions.  You’re welcome and encouraged to stop by to inspect, drive and make an offer.  Please BID WITH CONFIDENCE and know that you are purchasing a nice vehicle from a respected Ebay Seller.  My main goal is be sure you’re happy with your purchase - and your dealings with me – with the hope that you might be back again for another collector car.

Because of the amount of money involved in buying a vehicle, we require that new Ebay members with a feedback history of five or fewer transactions call or email before placing a bid.  If I don’t have this initial contact, your bid may be cancelled.   As I’ve outlined above, the phone number to talk directly to me is 206/914-1173.  Please feel free to call any time during the auction.  My name is MARK THOMPSON.  You’re welcome and encouraged to inspect & drive the Chevelle.  You might also consider making an offer as many of my vehicles sell to smart “early birds” that call and work out a deal prior to the auction’s end.  I always reserve the right to sell during this period.

A Few Additional Terms and Conditions:

A nonrefundable $500 deposit is due within 48 hours of the auction’s conclusion.  The balance is due by cash or certified funds within seven business days unless prior arrangements have been made with me.  I can accept PAYPAL, but if you plan to pay any more than the deposit through them I’ll first need to invoice you and ask that you cover the 3.5% fee PayPal charges.  Please remember you are bidding to buy and I fully expect the winning bidder to fulfill their Ebay contract!  You’re not bidding to hold or then come inspect and test-drive the vehicle later -- You’re more than welcome to do this before the auction ends.

If you decide to have the car transported home, there are scores of companies to choose from.  I ship vehicles regularly and suggest that you get a transport bid from Dependable Auto Shippers (DAS).  They're EBay’s preferred transporter and will give you a fair quote.  Call my designated rep, Janice, directly at (469)587-5096.  Give her my affiliate number (2362642) and she can pull up all our information for station-to-station or even door-to-door quotes.

As an alternative, you might also get bids from the U-Ship.com website.  You’ll be able to choose a transport broker from multiple offers.  The zip code for pick-up would be 98002 (Auburn, Washington).  The shipping of the vehicle and company chosen are the responsibility of the BUYER

The car can be stored free of charge at my location for up to two weeks after the auction ends assuming full payment has been received.  After that period storage is $20 per day.

The Volt Dance had precedent; meet the Chevy Footlockers

Sun, Dec 14 2014

Marketing in the auto industry can get weird sometimes – really quite bizarre, in fact. For example, remember the Chevy Volt dance from the 2009 Los Angles Auto Show? If not, a group boogied to a song about the electric car, and it was every bit as awkward (and hilarious) as that sounds. In fact, that innocent bit of promotion lives in infamy, as some pundits grabbed hold of it during General Motors' bailout and asked why America's tax dollars were going to such things. The Chicago Auto Show has been digging through its vault of vintage videos, and it has come up with something that might actually be worse than that Volt-themed routine. They're called the Chevy Footlockers, and they're a dance troupe somehow promoting the Cavalier at the 1988 Chicago show. The connection between the car and their routine is unclear, but it's gloriously cheesy in a Chippendales-meets-AC Slater sort of way. Also, there are props towards the end, but we aren't going to spoil them for you, because you just have to watch for yourself. As a bonus, there's another (brief) clip below showing a female dance group with the Geo Tracker at the '91 Chicago show, and they sing, too. Scroll down to watch both of these oddities. Weekly Recap: Volvo buys Polestar, makes performance a priority

Sat, Jul 18 2015

Volvo is taking its performance business in-house, and the Swedish carmaker announced Tuesday that it bought tuning company Polestar, which has long been known for producing sporty Volvos. The move allows Volvo to ramp up its performance business, and it plans to increase Polestar-branded vehicle sales to 1,000 to 1,500 annually, up from the 750 total projected for this year. The companies have been working together on motorsports projects since 1996. Financial terms of the sale were not released, and Polestar workers will move over to Volvo. Former Polestar owner Christian Dahl will keep control of the Polestar racing team and operate it under a new name. In addition to sales volume, Volvo has ambitious plans for other parts of Polestar, including its aftermarket business. Volvo also said it will use its twin-engine hybrid technology for Polestar models in the future, though specifics and timing were not revealed. Meanwhile, Volvo announced it will offer a run of 265 total Polestars in the United States for the 2016 model year, with S60 and V60s available. "Driving a Volvo Polestar is a special experience. We have decided to bring this experience to more Volvo drivers, placing the full resources of Volvo behind the development of Polestar as the model name for our high performance cars," Volvo CEO Hakan Samuelsson said in a statement. OTHER NEWS & NOTES 2016 Chevy Silverado, GMC Sierra, get nose jobs Automakers tend to refer to light updates as 'facelifts,' and that's exactly what Chevy gave the 2016 Silverado and GMC Sierra. Chevy slightly changed the front end of the truck. Using the one photo released of the new Z71 model as a guide, we can see that the headlights went from a stacked vertical design to single bulbs, and they are set on top of LED running lights. The grille has more body-colored elements instead of shiny metal, and the hood has a new line running down the middle (look really closely). The design theme will be similar across the portfolio, though materials and details will vary, a spokesman said. Some models, like the High Country and LTZ will have more chrome, and the LEDs are only for the upper trims. Chevy also said it will use the eight-speed automatic transmission on more versions of the Silverado, and it updated the MyLink feature to support Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.

400,000 Chevy, GMC pickups recalled: Side airbags can explode

Fri, Jul 9 2021

DETROIT — General Motors is recalling more than 400,000 pickup trucks in the U.S. because the side airbags can explode without warning and spew parts into the cabin. The recall covers certain 2015 and 2016 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks. Documents posted Friday by U.S. safety regulators say the airbag inflator can rupture or the end cap can fly off on both sides of the trucks. Documents say three inflators ruptured in 2015 Silverados last month, one in Florida and two in Texas. All three trucks were unoccupied at the time, and GM says it has no reports of injuries. Dealers will replace both side airbag modules. The company says it has a limited number of replacement parts available. Owners will be notified starting Aug. 16 and they'll get a second letter when parts are widely available. About 9,000 of the trucks were recalled last year for the same problem. The company says a manufacturing defect allowed moisture into the inflator while it was being manufactured, causing corrosion. The inflators were made in Mexico by Joyson Safety Systems, the company that took over Takata. Back in April, Silverado and Sierra were among nearly 750,000 GM vehicles in a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) investigation into non-deploying driver-side airbags. That investigation is ongoing. Takata is responsible for the largest recalls in automotive history, covering about 100 million inflators among 19 major automakers worldwide, including about 67 million inflators in the United States. Nineteen deaths in the U.S. have been attributed to Takata inflators. Only about 50 million of the 67 million recalled inflators in the U.S. have been repaired. This latest recall is a good reminder to go to NHTSA's recalls website and enter your car's VIN. Millions of recalled vehicles still pose a danger to their owners. Yours could be one of them.   Recalls Chevrolet GM GMC airbag Takata airbag recall
