This is a nice Camaro I've owned for 3 years, but know a lot of the history of from the late 90's. To start off, it's a Type LT that is supposed to be burgundy in color, but as we can see, it's black with blue painted stripes and the pinstripe around the stripes is purple. The painted stripes run all the way down to the front and rear valances. The hood is a 6" Glasstek bolt on fiberglass hood. It was painted around 1998 and actually has held up well! There's some scratches here and there, and at one time it looks like the driver's door rubbed the front fender. The only rust is pictured and it's on the lower front valance where the license plate bracket would go. The floorboards and everything else is rock solid. I would call the body 8 out of 10 with a paint job making it a 10.

On the drivetrain...It's got a 350 in it with Dart iron heads, Comp Cams 292H Magnum cam, full roller rockers, Edelbrock air gap intake, Edelbrock 600cfm carb with electric choke, MSD 6AL ignition with MSD Pro Billet distributor and MSD Super Conductor wires. It does have headers on it that goes into a Flowmaster American Thunder full system. It has one muffler longways (factory position) that has 2 pipes going into it and 2 pipes going out. It sounds great! It has a big block radiator in it, electric fans, and billet pulleys on it along with a vacuum canister so there's no lack of vacuum with the big cam.

The transmission is a 700R4 with about a 3000 stall converter in it and a B&M console MegaShifter it in. It shifts really hard and is a blast! The rear end is from a 79 Trans Am WS6 so it has the rear sway bar along with the disc brakes, so yes it does have 4 wheel disc brakes. The rear end has an Auburn Gear Pro differential and 4.11 gear ratio. It works great with the 700R4 so you're not turning real high RPMs going down the road!

The frame on this car has had frame connectors welded in along with traction bars added. All suspension bushings are polyurethane and there is a larger front sway bar. Between all of that and the 16X8 American Racing wheels, it handles great!

The interior is basically stock and was replaced in the late 90's. As you can see, it does have Auto Meter liquid-filled gauges and an Auto Meter Monster tach as well. The radio is a Kenwood CD player with 4 6X9 speakers in the rear deck and 2 4" speakers in the dash that sound great to.

All receipts that I have had for this car since I've owned it go with it...As far as what I've done to it: New fuel pump, alternator, battery, Edelbrock carb, MSD distributor, wires, spark plugs, 4 shocks, 2 tires, Kenwood CD player and front 2 speakers, new trunk and door lock cylinders, headlight, among other things.

This is a fun car that can be driven daily (I have from time to time), gets lots of compliments, and turns a ton of heads. Hard to find them nice like this!

Silverado HD, Touareg V10 TDI face off in diesel tug-of-war

Sun, 30 Dec 2012

A couple weeks ago, we watched a Chevrolet Silverado get dominated by a Dodge Ram Heavy Duty in a fullsize pickup tug-of-war, but in that truck's defense, Chevy's Vortec gas engine was no match for the torquey Cummins turbo diesel. For our next round of vehicular tug-of-war, a Duramax-powered Silverado HD takes on Volkswagen Touareg V10 TDI.
Now, on paper, putting the Duramax V8's 365 horsepower and 660 pound-feet of torque up against the V10's 310 hp and 553 lb-ft looks like an easy win for the Bowtie, but unfortunately, this battle has a similar result as the Dodge versus Chevy video, with the Silverado smoking its tires trying to move forward as it gets pulled backwards. Put another way: YouTube 2, Chevy Silverado 0.
It just goes to show, though, that big tires, bolt-on fender flares and goofy smoke stacks don't improve your towing abilities. Besides, what did the Silverado driver expect when the Touareg V10 TDI has towed a Boeing 747 in the past?

The UAW's 'record contract' hinges on pensions, battery plants

Thu, Oct 12 2023

DETROIT - After nearly four weeks of disruptive strikes and hard bargaining, the United Auto Workers and the Detroit Three automakers have edged closer to a deal that could offer record-setting wage gains for nearly 150,000 U.S. workers. General Motors, Ford Motor and Chrysler parent Stellantis have all agreed to raise base wages by between 20% and 23% over a four-year deal, according to union and company statements. Ford and Stellantis have agreed to reinstate cost-of-living adjustments, or COLA. The companies have offered to boost pay for temporary workers and give them a faster path to full-time, full-wage status. All three have proposed slashing the time it takes a new hire to get to the top UAW pay rate. The progress in contract talks follows the first-ever simultaneous strike by the UAW against Detroit's Big Three automakers. The union began the strike on Sept. 15 in hopes of forcing a better deal from each major automaker. But coming close to a deal is not the same thing as reaching a deal. Big obstacles remain on at least two major UAW demands: restoring the retirement security provided by pre-2007 defined benefit pension plans, and covering present and future joint- venture electric vehicle battery plants under the union's master contracts with the automakers. On retirement, none of the automakers has agreed to restore pre-2007 defined-benefit pension plans for workers hired after 2007. Doing so could force the automakers to again burden their balance sheets with multibillion-dollar liabilities. GM and the former Chrysler unloaded most of those liabilities in their 2009 bankruptcies. The union and automakers have explored an approach to providing more income security by offering annuities as an investment option in their company-sponsored 401(k) savings plans, people familiar with the discussions said. Stellantis referred to an annuity option as part of a more generous 401(k) proposal on Sept. 22. Annuities or similar instruments could give UAW retirees assurance of fixed, predictable payouts less dependent on stock market ups and downs, experts said. Recent changes in federal law have removed obstacles to including annuities as a feature of corporate 401(k) plans, said Olivia Mitchell, a professor at the University of Pennsylvania Wharton School and an expert on pensions and retirement. "Retirees want a way to be assured they won't run out of money," Mitchell said.

Best car infotainment systems: From UConnect to MBUX, these are our favorites

Sun, Jan 7 2024

Declaring one infotainment system the best over any other is an inherently subjective matter. You can look at quantitative testing for things like input response time and various screen load times, but ask a room full of people that have tried all car infotainment systems what their favorite is, and you’re likely to get a lot of different responses. For the most part, the various infotainment systems available all share a similar purpose. They aim to help the driver get where they're going with navigation, play their favorite tunes via all sorts of media playback options and allow folks to stay connected with others via phone connectivity. Of course, most go way beyond the basics these days and offer features like streaming services, in-car performance data and much more. Unique features are aplenty when you start diving through menus, but how they go about their most important tasks vary widely. Some of our editors prefer systems that are exclusively touch-based and chock full of boundary-pushing features. Others may prefer a back-to-basics non-touch system that is navigable via a scroll wheel. You can compare it to the phone operating system wars. Just like some prefer Android phones over iPhones, we all have our own opinions for what makes up the best infotainment interface. All that said, our combined experience tells us that a number of infotainment systems are at least better than the rest. WeÂ’ve narrowed it down to five total systems in their own subcategories that stand out to us. Read on below to see our picks, and feel free to make your own arguments in the comments. Best infotainment overall: UConnect 5, various Stellantis products Ram 1500 Uconnect Infotainment System Review If thereÂ’s one infotainment system that all of us agree is excellent, itÂ’s UConnect. It has numerous qualities that make it great, but above all else, UConnect is simple and straightforward to use. Ease of operation is one of the most (if not the single most) vital parts of any infotainment system interface. If youÂ’re expected to be able to tap away on a touchscreen while driving and still pay attention to the road, a complex infotainment system is going to remove your attention from the number one task at hand: driving. UConnect uses a simple interface that puts all of your key functions in a clearly-represented row on the bottom of the screen. Tap any of them, and it instantly pulls up that menu.
