This is a 1979 Chevrolet Camaro Z28. It is in very good condition for its age. It is mechanically sound and I drive it on the weekends in North Georgia as weather permits. To my knowledge I am the third owner and I bought the car from an estate in Alabama last year. This is a factory black Z28, with the original numbers matching 350 ci motor in it. It has options such as power brakes, power steering, A/C (needs charging), tilt steering and has the factory tach in the dash. I do have a clean title registered in my name in GA. The ONLY reason that this car is for sale is that I purchased an offshore fishing boat with the understanding that I would sell this car to pay for the boat. This car is a solid investment that will continue to appreciate as the years pass. BODY: The body is in very condition with all original body panels, trunk and floors. It did receive a paint job at sometime in the past. It has paint chips that have been touched up, and some dings here and there. It is not perfect but it is a great high end driver. It presents itself very well. This car has spent its life in the SouthEast and there is very limited rust. The only area of rust that I have found is in the trunk. There is a 4 inch by 4 inch area in the trunk that was filled years ago. The floors and frame are in great condition. The factory silver graphics are all in place and look good, the hood graphic around the hood bulge is slightly faded. Interior: The interior is in very good original condition. No rips or stains. AM/FM cassette radio with 2 knobs is still in the car and working fine. Brake lights, turn signals and wipers all work .The headliner is nice and the armrests on the doors are in good shape. The dash has a couple of small cracks, however, a custom dash cap will resolve this. Engine: The numbers matching engine and transmission are in perfect working order. It has 350 ci 4-barrel engine that is stock. I have replaced the carb with a Holley Quaderjet Replacement from Summit Racing. I have also upgraded the cooling system with a brand new oem replacement water pump, new aluminum radiator, new oem replacement transmission cooling lines, new oem fan shroud, and over flow bottle. While I was doing this I removed both inner front fender wells had them media blasted and painted. I have also dressed up the motor by added new matching valve covers and air cleaner from Summit Racing. Misc: The car also has a stainless Flowmaster exhaust which sounds very aggressive. The tires are top of the line BFG's that are virtually new with less than 1,000 miles on them. I had original wheels media blasted and painted, and bought original center caps to finish the look. I have not cut any corners on anything that I have done to the car. I also have a custom car cover that I purchased for the car that will go to the winning bidder. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. I have many more pictures of the car and would be happy to take pictures of any specific area. The car is also for sale locally in Athens, GA and I reserve the right to end this auction for any reason at any time. |

GM recalls 3,300 pickups and SUVs for new ignition-switch issue [UPDATE]
Mon, Oct 19 2015UPDATE: A statement from GM about the recall has been added below. The exact total of vehicles affected is 3,296, including 3,073 of them in the US. General Motors isn't letting an ignition-switch problem grow into a massive scandal again. The automaker is recalling about 3,300 North American trucks and SUVs. They are: the 2014 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra and the 2015 Chevy Suburban and Chevy Tahoe, as well as 2015 model heavy-duty pickups, the Detroit News reports, citing an Associated Press story. The issue appears to have been caught fairly quickly. In this case, the keys can get stuck in the "start" position and then slip to "accessory" if bumped. This is because the ignition lock gears have an outer diameter that's larger than the specifications allow. When that happens the engine shuts off, and the driver loses assistance to the steering and brakes. The airbags might also be affected. The vehicles get a new ignition-lock housing to fix the problem. According to the Detroit News, an employee who experienced the problem with the switch discovered the issue, and this person then let officials at the automaker know as part of the Speak Up for Safety program. A total of five reports of the fault were discovered. However, there are no cases of injuries or crashes. The claims to the automaker's resolution program eventually tallied that GM's previous ignition switch problem included 124 deaths and 275 injuries. The company also had to recall millions of vehicles and pay significant fines to the US government. GM Statement General Motors is recalling 3,073 full-size trucks from the 2014 and 2015 model years in the U.S. Some of these vehicles may have an ignition lock actuator gear with an outer diameter that exceeds specifications, which may make turning the ignition key difficult. The ignition key could get stuck in the "start" position. This may be more likely at higher interior ambient temperatures. If the vehicle is driven with the key stuck in the "start" position, and the vehicle experiences a significant jarring event or the vehicle's interior temperature cools, the ignition lock cylinder could move out of the "start" position, rotate past the "run" position, and move into the "accessory" position, leading to loss of power steering assist, power brakes and potentially air bag deployment in certain crashes. Dealers will replace the ignition lock housing.
Steve McQueen's last movie car, now Pawn Stars-owned, up for auction [w/video]
Sun, 03 Feb 2013The last car Steve McQueen ever drove in a movie is officially up for auction. The 1951 Chevrolet Styline DeLuxe Convertible you see above is now owned by none other than Rick Harrison of Pawn Stars fame, but once ferried McQueen around the set of his last film, 1980's The Hunter. That flick saw the Bullit star play a bumbling bounty hunter and didn't exactly set the box office on fire. McQueen bought the car after production wrapped, and four years later it sold at his estate sale at the Imperial Palace in Las Vegas.
Flash forward to 2003, and the convertible received a full restoration back to near-stock specifications. Hagerty Insurance estimates the car to be worth around $45,000 without the significant providence. Given its ties to one of film's most popular gearheads, the old Chevrolet could fetch up to 10 times that when it goes under the gavel in Ft Luaderdale, Florida on March 22. You can head over to the Auctions America site for more information. You can also check out the trailer for The Hunter below.
